    Denali National Park (Alaska)
Denali National Park, also known as Mount McKinley National Park, hooks over 600,000 people every year to explore its beauty. But did you know that Denali Park is the third-largest national park in the United States? Not just that, it also holds the title of having the tallest mountain in North America. The park is famous for countless activities such as hiking, rafting, camping, and the list goes on.
Today, we will discuss Denali National Park in detail. We will talk about some of its facts that you might not have heard before. Also, we will share some rental places where you can stay and engage in different fun activities. So, be sure to stick around until the end to know everything about Denali National Park.
Denali National Park covers an area of over 6 million acres, making it larger than the state of New Jersey, and is known for having the tallest mountain of North America, Denali. The word derives from the Athabaskan Language, meaning The High One. Denali mountain was named Mount McKinley in 1897, but later in 2015, the name changed to Denali.
Denali National Park lies halfway between Anchorage and Fairbanks. People mostly prefer reaching this park from the Anchorage side. It takes less than 6 hours to drive from Anchorage to Denali National Park. On the other hand, reaching the park from Fairbanks takes only 3 hours by car and 4 hours by train. Apart from these, you can use the McKinley National Park Airport to reach your destination in no time.
Denali National Park has a lot of attractive places and lets you engage in exciting activities that you will never want to miss during your trip.
Let’s start with the 92.5 miles long Denali National Park road, which is perhaps the most visited place in the area. You will be surprised to know that it is the one and only road here that leads you to different hiking and camping places. The road was constructed in 1938 and is actually a gravel road that connects Kantishna to the Denali Visitor Center. If you are traveling in your private vehicle, you can only drive it up to 15 miles on the road. After this, you will have to book the Denali Park Busses to reach your destination. The National Park Service offers different types of tours on its buses so you have to book a bus accordingly. But these buses only operate from May to September, which are the peak months to visit Denali National Park. So, be sure to visit the park in these months to get a chance of booking a bus and enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding areas. Things can become easier if you are not afraid of bike riding. Yes, bikes are allowed on this Denali National Park road, which means you have complete freedom to explore the place on two wheels.
Parks are famous for wildlife. Most of us plan to visit a park because we want to explore wildlife. If you also love interacting with animals, then Denali National Park will not disappoint you. The park is home to nearly 40 species of mammals and around 150 species of birds. But guess what? Most tourists want to see the Big Five: Caribou, Dall Sheep, Grizzly Bear, Moose, and Wolf. You can enjoy watching these beautiful animals and taking photographs of them. But this doesn’t mean that Denali National Park is home to only the Big Five. The park has other animals including Red Fox, Golden Eagle, Lynx, Collared Pika, and many more. Now, most of you might think as if you will see all of these animals somewhere in a zoo, but it is not. Also, there is no guarantee that you will see these animals for sure. But be sure to bring a high-quality camera in case you see any of these animals and want to click a quick picture.
River rafting is another reason that attracts tourists to spend their summer vacations here in Denali National Park. The Nenana River here offers half and full-day rafting trips in summer. You will get all the equipment you need for safe rafting including dry suits. But remember that the water temperature in summer here is in the 60’s. So, if you are not used to cold water, you better not engage in rafting or other water activities in the Nenana River. Apart from this, there is Wonder Lake which offers a spectacular view. This lake is 85 miles on Denali Park Road so be sure to check it out during your trip.
