    Crested Butte (Colorado)
Crested Butte is a one-of-a-kind ski town located in the rocky mountains of Colorado. It becomes heaven for skiers in winters and is known as Colorado's Last Great Ski Town. This town has two different worlds, one in winter and the other in summer. Both draw tourists here, making it the coolest spot. But did you know in 2015, Platino white rum of Crested Butte was called the world best rum at World RumAwards in England?
Today, we will discuss the Crested Butte, one of the historic towns in Colorado that is an adorable place for tourists. We will also share some interesting facts that you haven't heard before and will be helpful in your tour. So be sure to stick around until the end to know everything about Crested Butte.
Crested Butte is a less crowded quaint 1880s mining town that is a haven for tourists. It is the perfect place for skiing in winters as mountains are covered with snow, while in summers, mountains here provide all kinds of outdoor recreations, including mountain biking and scenic meadows full of wildflowers. Because of these wildflowers, it's also known as the Wildflower Capital of Colorado. It's surrounded by National Forests used for environmental and wildlife protection and outdoor activities. Everyone can find skiing trails for themselves as there are 1500 acres of trail, but if you're not an expert, don't try this.
Crested Butte is located in the southwest region of Colorado and about 28 miles north of Gunnison county on Highway 135. According to the 2020 US Census, the town population was more than 1600 and lay at the elevation of 8,885 feet. This historic town first supplied a camp for local silver and coal mines in the 1870s that drove the town's economy until the 20th century, after which a ski resort opened, attracting hundreds of tourists.
The main street of downtown is called Elk Avenue, lined with locally-owned shops and restaurants. You can spend a day strolling the streets, have a coffee, tea, or rum. Don't leave the downtown without tasting Montanya Distillers' white rum that was an award-winning in 2015.
Those who love natural beauty must visit Crested Butte in summer when mountains are lush green, covered with wildflowers and the chirping sound of birds to soothe you. This historic town has everything a tourist needs from picturesque points to outdoor and water activities.
Out of the town lies the Taylor River, which is the best place for rafting, fishing, and canoeing.
The main attraction spots you must visit include Crested Butte Mountain Resort. It was founded in 1978 and is considered to have an epic background terrain that is known to be the best in the whole country. There are 15 lift lines capable of handling more than 20,000 people per hour meaning you don't have to wait for long to go up there. Once you're up there, you'll find terrains of all levels having 121 trails. The longest run on the mountains is 2.6 miles. Almost 80 percent of town's trails are intermediate and beginner level, so you don't have to worry, but still don't try to use the expert-level trail if you aren't well experienced.
This resort and the town are connected via a free shuttle that leaves throughout the day. There's a modern ski village at the base, having restaurants, spas, shopping malls, and lodging options. Be sure to visit winter miniature golf featured by the resort. During summers, this resort turns into Mountain Bike Park, providing plenty of more recreational activities.
Another skiing destination in Crested Butte is one of the top places to visit in Colorado, named Crested Butte Nordic Center. It has 30 miles of trail which is easily accessible from the town, so you don't have to drive to a specific destination. It's the best for skiing, skate skiing, and shoeing. If you don't know how to ski, then don't worry because Nordic Center arranges ski lessons for beginners, youth programs, provides rentals, and most importantly, entertains travelers at its private Backcountry yurts.
If you are visiting in summer, drive through the Kebler Pass. It's a pass in the alpine mountains connecting Crested Butte with the western town of Paonia and also a shortcut to Aspen. You will enjoy the flickering aspen trees while passing through. Here, you will find one of the most beautiful camping spots at Lost Lake Campground. It has everything for your leisure. Yes, it will be a bumpy ride, but scenic views won't let you think about it.

Absolutely beautiful place. We partially own condos a few weeks each year in CB. I make epic TH-cam videos on my channel of skiing there for those ski enthusiasts.

Looks like a groovy little place to spend the day. When I think of Crested Butte I think of the infamous Ted Bundy. Not that he was ever there but after his escape from the Aspen Courthouse it was his intention to hike to Crested Butte then disappear to parts unknown.
But due to his unfamiliarity with the mountains around Aspen he got lost and wandered in circles until ending back where he started from.
