everyone likes to rip on kido during this segment but given that tanimura was dismantling a small army of cops like sixty feet away i think he did comparatively well
i like how the other bosses were either fairly matched or had odds stacked against the protags but this boss fight was basically saejima throwing kido around like a human frisbee
I mean, I haven't played 4, and maybe it's just Leon knowing what he's doing, but Saejima definitely seems like one of the strongest of the 4 characters, or maybe Leon is just most comfortable with him.
I'm watching these four videos one after the other, and after watching Arai just get absolutely wrecked with maybe only one or two chances to throw a punch the entire time, I'm not sure about that "the other bosses were fairly matched or had odds stacked against the protags" comment 😂 Although I do feel a bit that Saejima VS Kido just feels like a "the last kids picked" fight in terms of the plot. ⚪ Akiyama spent most of his story talking about how Arai is the next Dragon of Dojima (HA!) so he's backing Arai to get him to the top, so it's fitting that Akiyama takes down Arai after finding out that Arai is actually a pile of garbage. ⚪ Daigo betrayed the Tojo Clan and Majima after Kiryu worked his ass off so many times to save the Clan and talked Majima into rejoining to help Daigo out, so of course Kiryu has to kick Daigo's ass for being such a shithead. ⚪ Tanimura the (comparatively!) """clean""" police officer VS Munakata the corrupt Deputy Commissioner makes sense, even if it is super lame that Munakata turns out to be a wimp and the real fight is against an unnamed bodyguard. Then it's like, "Okay, what characters do we have left for Saejima to fight? Kido? They only met once, and don't really have any reason to fight. Surely there's someone else? No? Alright, whatever, just put in some lines about balls out and get it over with."

Fun fact: Since tigers are not native to Japan the only source of information on these creatures the ancient Japanese had was word of mouth and maybe drawings, both brought by traders who went to mainland China and other places where tigers live. So while they were very much real animals, to the Japanese of ye olde days they might as well been mythical. Wonder what an Irezumi of an oryx would look like.

Not only does that fight have an awesome dynamic intro, Saejima's pose at the very end of the fight is just too badass. Also I'm curious, does the game block recording on the PS4 (With a "This section of the game is blocked and cannot be recorded." message) like Yakuza 0, Kiwami, Kiwami 2 and 6, or is it like Judgment where everything can be recorded freely?
Real talk tho, Kido is probably my favourite character from Y4. The only thing I knew about him was this intro from Leon's top 10 intro vid, so I was looking forward to this fight, but his charcter arc throughout the game made this my fav boss fight in the entire game.

Many people think Kido is a weakling. However, for a good deal of the story, he is simply faking weakness. The first hint can be seen when he is seen by a peeking Saejima on a rooftop after having kicked a bunch of Shibata men's arses. The second time, it is confirmed by Akiyama to the other three that Kido is a fierce brawler when Akiyama states that he has seen Kido in some street fights and become truly impressed by the kid. The third hint, when Saejima wins this fight, you see he is panting after it. The only other fighter Saejima is exhaused after fighting with is Kiryu. That goes to show that Kido is actually a beast. However, it may fool noob players the fact that Yakuza 4's difficulty level was immensely lowered from Yakuza 3. Hell, in Yakuza 4, even Kiryu (Saejima's second boss fight) is quite easy. And Yakuza 5, 6 and 0 are very easy as well.
The most testosterone filled fight in the game and I love every second of it. I’m hoping he ended up in the Saejima family afterward because that’d be awesome.
Bullshit, in the previous battle he destroyed arai without almost equal, same kiryu vs tanimura and akiyama and many boss fights in the past. he does his best in these games.
@@ricsfic8784 you're right, but leon is a stylish player he knows the combat system very very well... look this battle battle, when kido was on the ground he provoked him instead of hitting him, you learn more from him than from no damage players, with a few rare exceptions.
Confession: I used to hold back in fights that I felt were too easy but were too epic in my eyes. If only to hear more of the OST and make them look better. E.g: Kiryu's boss fight in this game but in the original version. I gave it my all with the remaster.
@@ricsfic8784 Kiryu VS Tanimura and Akiyama should be Kiryu utterly destroying them. Tanimura and Akiyama might also be protagonists, but that doesn't make them a match for Kiryu. Kiryu's already been through so many more difficult fights by that point, Tanimura and Akiyama are basically lowly chinpira with longer health bars compared to him. Akiyama VS Arai, yeah it would have been nice to see that match be more balanced so it looks like a challenge, but it's not Leon's fault that even on the hardest difficulty Arai is a pushover if you know what you're doing. That's the game's fault.
I do wish Kido could be tougher to beat. Hopefully I'll have a harder time myself, especially if I play on Legend mode, but that won't stop me from leveling Saejima up as much as I can.
Not at all. This fight feels like the leftovers getting thrown together because they needed a fight for Saejima too. Akiyama VS Arai, Kiryu VS Daigo, Tanimua VS Munakata, these are all perfectly matched in terms of strength and plot. But everyone from Saejima's story is already dead or busy by this point. Oh but wait, he had that short chat with Kido once, make them fight I guess.
@@mjc0961 Well you have to consider the fact that Saejima is a legend. Kido is just some random punk who happened to get a fire lit under him by Saejima. He turned a small punk into a big time player within the story. Albeit he failed at what he tried to accomplish. He still went balls out as Saejima suggested he should. I don't think he regrets it either.
I like to think Kido earned a place in the Saejima family for going balls out
I honestly would like to know what became of Kido. I think he is a very cool character.
