My two bobs worth. I have clocked 25,000 km in Australia and another 9,000-ish in Europe on two Guzzi V7 850 models. I have been hot, cold, wet and tired, but never uncomfortable on that seat (5ft 8, so a bit vertically challenged).
Bits I have added to my bike to make it into a great tourer are:
Factory windscreen - BIG improvement at high speed, and then no one notices the offset instruments. On the subject of the offset, once you fit a holder for your phone or GPS, you will understand why Guzzi did it that way.
Oxford heated grips - Can’t do long trips in the cold without!
Kaoko throttle lock - don’t really need it, but a nice to have & goes with the Oxford grips with no cutting, slicing or dicing.
Bark busters - as above. They keep wind and rain off hands.
Engine crash bars - Hepco & Becker do good ones that should protect the cylinder heads in a low speed drop (not yet tested…).
Rear rack - also Hepco & Becker, who do a small rack, not too ugly, handy to carry backpack or tent.
Soft saddlebags - canvas, of course, to keep the retro look. Hard panniers wouldn’t be right!
As for reliability, no quibbles, and I ride this bike on some rough gravel roads. The only issue I had after riding in very dusty conditions was that the starter button did not always make contact. Blew compressed air through the switch and used contact cleaner to fix.
    Best bike I’ve ever owned.

Good point about the instrument offset and a phone or GPS. I have the Stone Corsa, and the little cafe screen on it also makes the offset less noticeable.

I tried it last year, and I loved it.
    This bike is alive!
I’m 1m65 (5.5), and the seat height is perfect for me.
I’ve found the V7 less intimidating than a T120, more stable and easy to ride, very well balanced.
    Certainly my next bike.

I’ve had my V7 special for 7 months now and absolutely love it. I prefer the special because of the chrome finish and the 2 clocks, they have come on leaps and bounds in the last 5 years or so. What surprised me was how sporty it is, it really flies when you want it to

I had my V7 850 Special Classic 26 months and had 3800 miles on it when I turned down a country road traveling around 45mph. Witnesses told the police that as I rounded a corner a deer ran into the back of my bike! I woke up in ICU where I was told of the screws and pins that were put in my neck while I was asleep! My bike didn't survive!

The Guzzi is a lovely bike. I have an '05 Guzzi 750 Breva that puts a smile on my dial every time I ride it. Reliability - once I sorted the starter relay wiring, which was very simple and cheap to do - is excellent. It has lots of character and the gearbox lets me know with a false neutral on the 1-2 upchange if I've been lazy. It's the most enjoyable bike of the many that I've owned over the years - and I started riding in 1958. And no, that's not a typo.

My first Guzzi is the V100S Mandello and I’m really enjoying it after 4,600 miles. It’s in the shop now for an invisible coolant leak. The leak has been found, and I’m waiting to get it back.

I really enjoyed this video from start to finish. I love my v7 SE. it has 2400 miles and is still getting better with the break in period. I love the rubble as well and when i give it some throttle she really comes alive. As you pointed out, it is light and nimble and loves the corners with ease and little effort. As my first bike i wanted one that i look over my shoulder at while walking away and i do. I love the heat it generates being air/oil cooled. Tells me everytime, yup we went for a lively ride. Installed center stand and engine guards. Both have come in handy. Thanks taym! If i lived up your way “i would feel comfortable talking a road trip to Scotland!” as you said. Morning TAYM whey hey what a treat for a Saturday morning, as you know I own both a V100 mandello s and a V7 special in white both are “ marvellous & lovely”. Definite keepers I just love the fact that they’re Italian, quirky, the engines brilliant for real world riding and you don’t see many on the road also servicing is reasonable at main dealers. Plus there are lots of accessories you can add to make it your “own”. I bloody love em TAYM 😊 thank you for bringing Guzzi’s to the masses👍🏻 now carry on that man Caio for now tat ta 👍🏻

I also own a V100S Mandello and the V7 STONE TEN 850 model! Love the opposites thing. Weird, though, I like my TEN the best. It involves you in the trip, the V100S sort of isolates you and rushes along. That's what it is made to do, of course.

  • @brockett

Nice one TAYM Moto Guzzi or Bonneville? Hmmmm! The Bonneville is a little more refined and easier to get along with. When I first get on my V7 I never know exactly how it will behave. Until the engine has warmed up it is just a little reluctant, but only a little. The engine and gearbox oil being separate means the gearbox also has to warm up and it can be 10 miles or so before it becomes it's normal self. At which point the neutral light is easier to find. I love my V7 Stone and would not swap it for any other bike. An air cooled engine with pushrods and two valves per cylinder makes it a true retro and no greasy or gritty drive chain to worry about.

    Bravissimo Mr TAYM!
The Pinkster loves the idea of owning the Special with twin clocks and spoked wheels.
Unfortunately Moto Guzzi dealers are few and far between for me and that has been my hesitation in owning one as a main bike. I think a V7 and I would be best buddies if I bought one though. Great fuel range, shaft drive, that spanking engine, I'd ride it all of the time.

I like this bike with the Alloys but 2clocks be better but I would rather have alloys than 2clocks.If there was a Guzzi dealer closer to me be keen.
2½-2¾hrs to Lower Hutt which is a long way to go for a Run in Service & Service.Triumph dealer only 65-70mins away.In saying that I was thinking 🤔 you could buy from Lowe Hutt go back for 1st service where they do a remap. Then just take to the Triumph Dealer 70mins away for future services as they had one for sale a trade in & also Big ADV Triumphs & Rocket 🚀 3 are Shaft drive.
They have just released the Ten V7 the 10yr Anniversary model which comes with a rear pipe stock & is White with red details as you know not a fan of red & red rear shock be painted black same as on this bike. The little red line on tank can live with.As you know NZ largest Gang based on East Coast of North Island where I live have ruined Red coloured motorbikes,V8 cars unless they're Japanese.Just not worth the hassle, watching 👀 mirrors when going home etc gas ⛽ stations.Few weeks ago there were 1000 of them mainly riding V-rods some Triumphs & other HD were in town & definitely didn't go out & about that weekend😂.There colour is Black & red but mainly red so black bikes alright. This is why bike insurance is really expensive on non Japanese bikes in NZ 🇳🇿 as we've got the highest gang membership per population in the World 🌎.

@@daintree2455Check out the V7 Ten 10yr Anniversary model.White with decals on top of tank & Graphite head covers & rear pipe.I would paint the rear shock with that plastic paint that just peels off so if go to sell bike & next owner wants stock red shock just peel black paint off.The V7 Ten also had black with red writing on alloy wheels paint over that too with black paint that just peels off & I would just leave the red line on the black tank bike & the white tank bike.I not a fan of Japanese road bikes but like their Trail bikes, dirt bikes & some ADV.Cheaper than Triumph too & some places sell them with a rear pipe for free & they have specials more often than Triumph.Need a Guzzi dealer in Palmerston North then I would probably buy one but Triumph 900 has the High torque motor 80Nm stock & get 100% of torque at 3800rpm & peaks at 7500rpm & is 64hp.V7 gets 80% of Torque at 3000rpm & 100% 73Nm at 5000rpm & peaks at 6800rpm & is 65hp but with slip on Torque is 75Nm & 66hp.
So Triumph High torque motor has more pull lower down & has more torque but revs out more. The V7 gets 100% of torque a few hundred RPM further along but peaks 700rpm earlier which means it should be faster between 4000-5000rpm but Triumph faster from 2000-4000rpm & then faster from 6500-7500rpm as revs out 1000rpm more but is 5speed.
I reckon Triumph twin 900 suit my riding more but reckon be hay with either.

Always enjoy your perspective on the Guzzi's! Would think at your height you feel a bit cramped as I'm 5' 9" and find my V9 a challenge to enjoy after 90 minutes in the saddle. Seat height is fine but seat to foot peg distance is too cramped for me. Hagon shocks and a Corbin seat have helped. I bought my 2021 Bobber Centenario in Jan of this year (new old stock) and initially was sure I was not keeping it but now at 1500km and needing first service I'm 50-50 on keeping. Don't love the spock ears clock but I can live with it but would have preferred a fuel gage over time and outside temp! Bike has come alive once it hit 1000km and I'll see how much better it is once rev limit is raised from 4500 to 7000 after first service. Certainly characterful and good looking machines, still, given a choice, I prefer riding my T120 every time (not a fair comparison to be honest due to cost & power). Would have had a BSA 650 instead but still not for sale in the States. For US roads I wanted a second/winter bike between 650-900 cc, Tiger 850s/900s are nice but ADV bike looks dont work for me nor does their height. Will wait and see if RE releases a Classic 650 or we ever get the Gold Star over here...or maybe a Scrambler 900. Sorry, bit of a mutter myself here lol Cheers, SW!

I'm 5'10" and the V7 is way better than my V100S Mandello. The V7 puts the pegs a little more foreward, unwinding the knees so even with a lower seat, I can ride way longer on the V7 TEN. The Mandello puts them right under you, and the knees bent too much. Yep, you will stand and stretch more oftern on the Mandello even though it is a higher seat!
The V7 TEN is the best seating of any bike I've owned, even the 1992 R100RT has a bad seat that looked great.

Whay a useless fuklle gauge that as too few segments to be accutate/ 50 MG into 5.5 gallins means fuel at 200 miles. Easy.
I have the Mandello with the gauge and even a miles to empty. use the trip meter for fuel, always.
Both the Mandello and the V7 STONE TEN illuminate a dash light with a gallon or so remaining to remind you. I'll take temp and time, can't conjure up those, but when to get fuel is easy.

There is zero obstruction of the instrument and indicator repeaters! Which is a real world benefit when touring. Love the bike... but it did take time to get under my skin. Good video TAYM. Guzzis are an acquired taste . Once tasted , you either understand and like them , or you don't .
The engine design is immensely strong and the shaft drive is a huge advantage to those who travel long distances in wet or dry , dusty chain killing conditions .
It's interesting to note that my recently rebuilt 1974 850 Guzzi has almost indentical horsepower and torque figures as this 2024 850 , 50 years later !
So maybe 64 hp is enough .
Valve clearance adjustments are easy and quickly accomplished ( compare to Triumph and most DOHC machines if you don't believe me )
There has been a Little criticism that Guzzis are flakey , but I have not found this to be so . And Ay Up even Triumphs have been criticised by certain ridings , er I mean riders .
I am lucky enough to own both marques and don't see any difference in quality .
I think you gave the V7 a fair review and I hope one day that you cross the Rubicon and become a Guzzista . 😂

I own the V100S, and went BACK and also bought the V7 TEN 850 model. Why? The Mandello lost the soul, and turned into an appliance that gets you from A to B as fast as it can. It does that well, but you are so much more isolated from the sport.
The V7 involves you in the trip and the bike's feelings under the circumstances of the ride. It talks to you. Destinations aren't a requirement to ride the V7, just keep going!
I'll keep both, but I WANT to ride the V7. The V100S is for when I just want to get there.

The gauge offset is to accommodate bar mounted GPS and phones, you know, all the modern stuff we use. You can buy a center mount for the dash, but then if you add a GPS/iPHONE off to the side it is crooked again! Oh dear.
Same with the twin gauges. The bar mounted GPS removes symmetry.
It isn't stupid they did this, it is to better allow the bike to be used with modern stuff more easily. A cheap after market mount for a few bucks is all you need if you so desire.

Only leather and of portable type will work aesthetically - not permanent - of metal/plastic.... Not so very practical solution.... Without any luggage storage - not for daily use 🤷‍♂️
If they make this bike COMPATIBLE ( visually + practically ) with a top-box, finally install the fuel gauge ( it's pretty stupid without it ), improve rear shocks - it WILL be sold like fuzzy drinks on a hot summer day ☝😀
