I remember watching the Bye Bye Man with two of my best friends and being completely and utterly baffled by it. We tried to get our other friends to see it with us multiple times, but every time we did, it would just end up being me and the first two guys watching it again. So now the three of us have seen the Bye Bye man at least three times and have a more intimate knowledge of that movie than anyone ever should.

I think if youd willingly watched the trailer 3 times that would warrant a visit to the local asylum. I'll pray for y'all
My friends and I watched it twice, the second time having descriptive audio dubbing, and Jesus christ it makes it so much more fun
The biggest problem i have with CGI in most movies is when you spend a lot of money on rendering and then you fill the scene with so much darkness that you can barely even see anything.
That would be because they're ashamed of the effects and hiding something in darkness is a great way to hide the shortcomings
Or they spent so much time and money that it has to be the focus for any time it's on screen.

This reminds me of AVP Requiem. The costumes for Wolf and the Predalien looked really good! Too bad you can't see shit!

The fact they could have gone with a good-looking animatronic dog instead of that cgi mound of spaghetti but chose not to is an actual braindead move.
I know. In the book he has eyes and tongues on him reminiscing a eldritch creature not specified to be a dog. That would’ve been way more fun!
The author even pulls a quote from the Dunwich horror regarding Gloomsingers appearance.

To add onto the discussion between Billy and Mandy about CGI being used well to add to a movie. I think a great example of that is in the D&D movie, I recently watched it and they mostly used practical effects throughout it for the different races like dragonborne and arakora as well as the sets, they only used cgi to mask some weird movements and spells obviously, it really made the movie for me.
Also Themberchaud.
I had a feeling the bestial races were practical effects. They had that feeling of coming from a jim henson film or a Power Ranger/Super Sentai season and I really liked em for that.
If I remember right, the Good Doctor is also heavily associated with Autism Speaks, and we all know how evil they are.

What never ceases to amaze me is that anyone heard the name “bye bye man” and thought to themselves that it was a good name for a horror antagonist.

Back in the day when I heard/saw trailers for the movie, my first thought was: “Oh great another shit attempt at slenderman.”
But now hearing the actual lore of the real story is just fucking sad!
Some parts of the book I’m not how I feel about but it’s obvious he genuinely just wanted his friends story to be known/part of American folklore.
Motive aside, I don’t know how to recommend the book other than the roommate cucking is surprisingly canon.
I had a dream (I refuse to call anything related to the Bye Bye Man a nightmare) where my company's IT team wanted to test our internet security, made me and my company click a shady link to test it, and our whole company building turned into the Bye Bye House with all our computers just placed everywhere, and the monitors had some choice material playing. This movie is the gift that keeps on giving.

Kindred: The Embraced has the best/worst special effects shot ever. In the first episode, a vampire is left out by a bay to die in the sun. She jumps from the seawall and the show cuts to what's obviously a mannequin wrapped in cloth and set on fire, dropped from a helicopter into the middle of the bay.

@Please Stop Talking Something other movie podcasts do on occassion is allow patrons to "sponsor" an episode. For a certain price, a patron can submit a movie to be reviewed. Obviously it takes the creative agency away from you and Mandy, but maybe if you limited it to once every 5 movies you do a patron submitted one, it could work! Something to consider!

First Ralph Sepe, now you guys covered Bye-Bye man. And then you guys started talking about Wish Upon. This really is the second highly entertaining group of people with a central Canadian member to cover some of the best awful garbage films in extremely entertaining commentary that I've come across.
One thing ive never seen anybody talk about when talking abt this movie is the fact that the director got nominated for an oscar a while ago

I had my first eye exam the day I watched this. It amongst some other physical needs being unmet lead to a very different viewing than my rewatch today 😅.

Fellow Canadian here - I went to school with a lot of Jewish kids growing up and they would always sing that song on bus rides to field trips and such like.
