Thanks for the great videos Michael. I have 1,200 miles on my 2022 Turbo Levo Gen 3. The motor seems to run like new. I live in Colorado and have have been able to keep it away from puddles and creek crossings, so the worst it's subject to is dirt and dust. When would you recommend preventative maintenance?
Good for you, Steve. Colorado is a pretty dreamy state for riding. I would say some of our customer base like to have an extra motor that they swap out and have overhauled every year and just make sure to stay ahead of any breakage. But most of our customers fall into a category where we just kind of fix it when things start breaking.
Is the screw on the top the only thing that sets the tension on the screw or is there a spring aswell? I'd say if that screw all that tensions it regularly setting it would help the belt last much longer?
The set screw is indeed the only thing that sets the tension on the belt. Resetting it might actually cause some issues because both from the factory, and after an overhaul, there is locked type, applied to the set screw, which keeps it in place. Readjusting it would require you to clean the threads and apply new Loctite and would likely get you within such a small fraction of meter difference that would be negligible. Plus belts don’t typically fail from wearing down from fatigue. They just eventually break or fall apart. They don’t necessarily get smaller in the overall material.
Thanks for this video. Very informative. BUT I have to say that the "strech" bolts look like a 5 or 6mm and they ain't gonna stretch at 3Nm plus a turn unless they're made of plastic.
Interesting. I’ll be curious to hear what you think it should be. Also keep in mind We didn’t set the specs on them though. Also the “stretch” does not need to be a lot. We’re talking thousands of inch of stretch if that. The main purpose of the stretch bolt is in part to produce friction for a good hold and second in part as to not damage the hard magnesium metal threads. Also, with those specs pointed out in the video we have had zero issues with bolts loosening over time as gaskets compress. I will leave you with this little tip; in a pinch at those specs you can usually get one more use out of them if you’re careful.

It is made by Brose now. They used to be made by Gates. also there are other bands that will spec the same but DO NOT USE THEM!!! they break so easily if you dont use the OEM part. This is one example of when to use only OEM parts. Those belts are made from carbon fiber and will withstand the torque generated by the internal motor. No other substitutes even come close to holding up. Trust us, we have seen it all.
It’s pretty subjective honestly. Depends on rider, riding conditions, etc. Plus there’s always minor little differences in manufacturing process that can affect about life. But, all of that aside a typical range of life on the belt is about 3000 miles plus or -500 miles. However, we’ve seen some customers go as much as 10,000 miles. We also have some customers that have Bros mounted on passenger and cargo bikes that only see about 1500 miles. To answer your question about the difference between the older belts and the newer belts we tend to see between 30 and 50% more life out of the carbon fiber belts.
@@VovanCBR I’d say that’s a bit excessive. My opinion is fix when they break. But I suppose if you want to buy a belt kit to have on hand it would be smart. That torque spec you referred to is important because too much torque and you destroy the planetary gear cluster (nylon) too loose and you destroy the belt. So that’s the purpose at least.
If you ever decide to get an ebike the Bosch is pretty on point. We service all of them and aren’t married to any particular motor but the industry definitely has tons of room to evolve.
speaking of bosch is there a way to retrofit a bosch or any other e bike motor to a bike that came with brose? why hasnt anyone tried this? I would just dump this brose pos and use something far more reliable.
Thx a lot 4 the video man 😊👍🤝
