I've had one of these for 2 years now. Initially fitted to a mountain bike and now on my cargo bike. So let's get rid of a couple of canards. 1. It does not increase tyre wear. 2. It does not slip in wet weather. The noise depends on the tread pattern on your rear tyre. The mountain bike was quite noisy with a chunky tread. However, the cargo bike is almost silent fitted with Schwalbe Marathons. Altogether a good package.
I’m considering one due to getting older with asthma breathing issues. Mostly just for an occasional boost during certain gradual slope sections of my rides at 15+ mph, not really for stop and go or hills. Do you think this would work well for this use? Do you have to remove just a pedal to place the sensor, or the entire crank?
Probably not as I think the gap between the seat tube and the rear wheel on a BMX would be too great. You would also need to install a peddling sensor on the crankts so it would depend on whether you have removable cranks (as normal bikes do) or "bent cranks" which would make fitting very difficult.. You could contact Revolution Works in Bristol - they're a very friendly bunch.
Clive Sinclare made one of these in the 80s I had one . Like everything else he made it was a bit ahead of its time ie: the C5, and the battery tech was not there to support it .It did work quite well tho.
First.....time I've seen one of these. I might well try it on my folding bike. The simplicity appeals to me above all, as I don't want to replace my Alfine rear or dynamo front hubs.
I never knew this option existed, so thanks for making this video. I would actually consider this kit for an old bike which I want to use to run errands around town, but at $900 Canadian it's a little too pricey. I'm just too scared to leave my expensive e-bike locked up while I go grocery shopping! Hopefully competition will drive prices down 😄
this should cost 30 usd since you can buy lfaster and other china chain drive motors that are much more powerful and much more reliable for under 100usd
This is a good video that explains in simple terms what it is and what it does but would of benefited from typical costs, where to buy from , how it charges etc . Guess you will hopefully covering this important stuff at a later date ? Anyway as I have been considering e-bike conversion on my ATB just for road use I very much like the simplicity and ‘low ‘installation’ fitting. Just watched an American chap demonstrating a Chinese version of this type of kit that ostensibly if it’s claims are true could clean up the market( depending on price )
I made an ultra simple set-up. I used a hub drive skateboard motor with Bluetooth control ( yay no wires) and power tool batteries.. Its only 250 watt and needs pedal assistance up hill.. It's all fitted on a rack from Kmart. I get the Max legal speed of 25 kph.and have done distance of 10 kilometres. Could do with improving but very cheap.
@sexidance ever th-cam.com/video/u6Tbwu50QkM/w-d-xo.html The remote is fitted to handle bar near right brake to use . This was a quick test. The rack came from kmart. On first ride rack moved to side and lost drive . When tightened was good . Have ridden total 30 kilometres. Range without pedal on flat is about 11 to 14 kilometres.
That is what I am looking for. Simple install, no unnecessary part replacement, and easily removable (prevent theft). I would be looking for a on/off system with like a thumb throttle activate instead of a pedal assist. I just want to turn on when I need it and not have it on all the time. Please let me know of any system more closer to this.
I tried looking up progress reports for the Revos kit on your channel but I couldn't find it. What is the range, durability, performance been like over the last two years?
Let's be honest here, this thing is definitely wayy too overpriced. This tiny motor is more expensive than a brand new iPhone 11...how?? You can find way cheaper options from china, and they're more powerful too
did you have to drill a hole in the frame of the bike to attach it with those screws or are they pressure tightened type of screw will this scratch the frame?
I bought this kit because at my age I was struggling with hills I used to ride up with no difficulty. I have been using it for ten months now and I can't praise it enough. I fitted it to my road bike - it hardly changed the appearance, and with an all up weight, bike and kit, of 13.5kg , it has given me a reasonable simulation of an e-road bike like, say, the Orbea Gain at a fraction of the cost. Highly recommended!
Like any ebike or any ebike conversion kit, the cost of the battery alone can get you a half decent mountain bike and a 2 stroke gas bike kit. You can even have your bike and engine shipped to bike outfitters and they'll just charge you 50 to 100 bucks labor to have it installed. And the 2 incentives are you get a faster bike that's less appealing to thieves.
Yes my feeling is that the demand for a simple easy kit that is sensibly priced will corner the market but it’s not arrived yet. As a non technical person the design of the rear wheel drive unit must be the neatest , easiest kit to install so now the battery technology needs to be improved
This looks so cool I want something easy to fit on my bike to help me ride from bath to Bristol. Also as I assume you live in bath any good cycling groups been looking for one
That is SO over priced. Why would anyone pay that much ($640 US), for so little return?! You can buy and entire Bike for that! I'd pay, maybe half that price, maybe. I think we are losing our perspective on what these motorized bikes are worth, it's getting ridiculous tbh.

Around the time of the Sinclair C5, they also sold a similar system, if memory serves me right.

From your experience, how noisy is the motor system? Also, any concerns about the tyre wear as a result of friction?
