    Thanks for another great instructional video, David. I recently had a system update installed on my 2019 GS HP. Of course, all the connections were lost during the update so I had to reconnect to get my Packtalk Bold working again. Adding the BMW Motorrad Connected app to my smart phone made the reconnections much easier than they were before. I followed your guide and everything worked great. Thanks!

    Great video Dave. Clearly stated info with step by steps I could easily follow. I noticed you did not pair your your GPS to the Cardo's 3rd line that is made for GPS units. Why? If your cardo came with old directions that did not list it here it is. Start pairing as normal for one phone, double tap phone button to add second phone after cardo says "phone 2 pairing" scroll volume wheel forward and card should say GPS pairing. After accepting on your GPS you should have all GPS features that the phone line does not support.

    Thanks David for the videos. They are super helpful. I did run into an issue and was curious if you had this problem with your unit at all. Everything will sync up just like you show it on your bike, but for some reason my GPS won’t show Media. When I go to the Packtalk connection on the GPS it shows that Media has failed and I cannot check the box to get it to work. This was not an issue with my Sena 10s. Everything is updated as well, so I’m lost as to why this may be happening. GPS does come through the headset with turn by turn. I’ve tried resyncing but I keep getting the same results. Thanks again for your videos.

    • @aMAYSingLife
      @aMAYSingLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Noah Wyatt did you connect your nav to the phone 2 slot or did you use the gps slot? If you roll the volume forward when in phone setup instead of tapping phone button twice it puts you in gps pairing mode and that is one feature I believe u lose the music connection. Another potential is what type of phone do you have? If android check the rights that it is allowing to the nav. Should be full. Let me know how that goes!

    Thanks for the video. I stumbled through connecting my backtalk bold before seeing this and got quite frustrated with it all until I turned the bike off to connect the nav. The only issue I'm having now is the "hey cardo" voice control on my bold is very poor. It used to work fine just connected to my phone but now it is at best intermittent but mostly isn't working, do you have any problems with the voice commands and control?

    • @aMAYSingLife
      @aMAYSingLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dave Wilson it actually shouldn’t work at all so not sure why it is hit or miss. The only way to have Siri or hey cardo to work is to have the phone directly connected to the headset which creates a loop if you connect the way the it is recommended by bmw.

    Very useful video. Thank you for making it. 1 point though. why don't you use GPS pairing on the Cardo Packtalk? (press phone button to mobile 1 pairing then rock the volume wheel). Could this not then achieve everything?
    I don't have TFT (yet) but use phone 1 for my phone and the app and GPS pairing for my Nav V.

    • @aMAYSingLife
      @aMAYSingLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Man, I had no idea that would come up as often as it has. I lost something when I did GPS instead of phone. I can't remember if it was music didn't work the same or I couldn't get phone calls, not sure.. AND I didn't write it down! AND I had to give the Cardo back (big time sad face as I still have a Sena 10C pro and I really liked the Cardo!). So unfortunately I can't say exactly what I lost by using the GPS function instead of Phone 2 but I did lose something. If you pair it that way and something doesn't work the same, please let me know what it is.. If it doesn't then I'm not sure what I did that caused the issue. Either way I need to know. Thanks for the post!

    Hi, very useful and informative video. I have ordered a new 2021 R1250RT with the new TFT screen, and I have bought a PackTalk Bold to use with it. I am trying to gather information before the bike arrives, and videos like yours have been great. I have used a Garmin Zumo 660 in the past for my tours with voice directions and music, but I'm hoping to use the TFT with the Motorrad Connected App through the Cardo. However, I am wondering if it is possible to set things up to hear music and the voice prompts/directions with the TFT, Cardo/App and phone?

    Another good vid in time for my concern about switching Cards primarily because of riding so much in downpours of late and lack of sound quality on music and phone calls.
    My question now is if you are considering the new ZUMO XT GPS ? I have made the plunge and found it to be a better choice than using a phone and Bmw Connect mount in my BMW mounting dock Once I discovered a converter which goes between my BMW GPS mount and Zumo produced in Italy and quickly shipped to me at small charge compared to the BMW connect mount which eliminates any and all wiring changes or additions. Plug and play made my new ZUMO XT Fit as clean as the NAV V did. Love to see how CARDO WOULD WORK IN THIS FORMAT.

    • @aMAYSingLife
      @aMAYSingLife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would think the Zumo should do fine. It really wont change the connectivity methods as described in my original connection video or this one. I don't know if the Zumo supports direct media support as the 6 does (albeit poorly in my opinion) or whether it supports phone. This isn't really a deal breaker though as you can always manage phone calls from the TFT. I wish i had a Zumo XT I could do testing with as I have been very unhappy with the whole ghosting issue the VI has been plagued with since it came out.

    • @rayelliott5661
      @rayelliott5661 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aMAYSingLife THE ZUMO DOES SUPORT DIRECT MEDIA , AS I WENT ON A TRIP AND OUR RIDE CAPTAIN SIMPLY BLUE-TOOTHED THE WAYPOINTS FROM HIS NAV VI DIRECTLY TO THE APPS ON MY NEW ZUMO . MANAGEMENT OF THE PHONE ON THE ZUMO IS CONSISTENT WITH THE TVT METHODS BUT IT IS AN EITHER OR CHOICE EASILY MADE AND SHOULD ANYTHING SCREW UP YOU CAN SWITCH OFF ON THE FLY. THE DEAL MAKER FOR ME WAS BEING ABLE TO MOUNT IT WITH A SIMPLE 3D PRINTED ADAPTER THAT GAVE ME INSTANT ACCESS TO THE MOUNTING ON MY EXISTING ALTHOUGH RELOCATED NAV V MOUNTING BRACKET. AGAIN NO JOLLY WHEEL USE ON THE XT ITSELF BUT-STILL WORKS ON THE BIKE ITSELF AND TFT.

  • @marcosramos5887
    @marcosramos5887 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi David!!! We exchanged some msgs about these pairings and the priority of connections. I decide not to use the Cardo app (but I am changing my mind). I am using the NAV VI while a long distance trip and TFT`s Navigation while in the city. The worst problem that I am trying to work around is the Cardo`s voice command. Have you tried something to have: TFT + Iphone + Cardo PTb ------> Navegation(TFT) + Music + Phone + Cardo App + Voice commands? Thanks for this new video!!

    • @aMAYSingLife
      @aMAYSingLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only way to get voice support would be to connect the phone to tft and nav and headset (phone slot 1), tft to headset (phone slot 2). You would not get turn by turn audio instructions from the nav nor could u control music from nav but would have voice support through phone to headset.

  • @sphyrnidus
    @sphyrnidus 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for the review. I changed from the Sena 30k to the Packtalk some months ago. Mainly because of the lousy connections with my wife’s unit and the very poor battery life when using the Mesh. But here is a question.
    Why don’t you connect the Nav to the Cardo as a Nav by starting the pairing and then roll back on the volume control of the Cardo?

    • @awaeraas
      @awaeraas 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The packtalk should have a GPS slot in addition to the phone 1 and phone 2 slots. If the NAV could connect to the GPS slot, that would enable the TFT and the phone to occupy the two other slots.
      So the question would be if that still makes playing media through the TFT works (don't need media in the NAV) and be able to configure and control the packtalk from your phone, aswell as using mesh with other riders

    • @aMAYSingLife
      @aMAYSingLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use the gps slot but I don’t like the way it handles the music I believe when it is in that mode. I’ll have to pair it that way again to remember for sure but something didn’t work the same when I tried that. I believe it is music though.

    • @awaeraas
      @awaeraas 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aMAYSingLife Thanks for the quick reply. I'll check when I am able to and reply back. For me it would not be a dealbreaker if I'm only able to control music through the TFT and not the NAV, but for others it might.
      If I lose that media-control redundancy, but gain configurability and control of mesh-groups etc from the phone, that would be a massive plus for me.

    • @aMAYSingLife
      @aMAYSingLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This has been something that I have of those who can but with limited connection to the nav. My understanding is you can as long as you use dmc for your com and not Bluetooth. I did not do it myself though. I struggle with the Sena to make that work. It seems hit or miss. Usually the nav struggles to stay connected. But that is with the sena. I didn’t have a pillion to test with so I’m going off others for this info.

    Hi, I'm just in the process of researching the Packtalk Bold before I buy a set. One thing out of curiosity, the Bold has the option of connecting two bluetooth devices in addition to a sat nav/gps unit (double click to get the 2nd phone pairing followed by scrolling the dial forward changing it to sat nav). Is this something you have tried with the navigation unit on your bike to see if it would be compatible and free up one of the bluetooth slots?

    • @aMAYSingLife
      @aMAYSingLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish I still had the unit but it was only on loan to do the review. I did use the gps function but I lost capability and I can’t remember how it affected. I believe it was media connection in the nav. Whether you can connect 3 devices - 2 phones and a gps and it still handle I’m unsure.

SatNav via BMW app. Is this going to work with Cardo slim? What about the benefits of Sena’s new Bluetooth v5.0 50 range? I am less interested in group riding but IP67 and minimum wind interference is important - what would you recommend going into 2022 (tech changes so quickly). Any help would be greatly appreciated. I haven’t tested the slim but for your config it should do fine. I would definitely make sure it has the same quality speakers that the bold has. I would highly recommend getting the new phone mount if your RR came with the gps mount installed. But back to cardo. The waterproof level of cardo is far better and you will need the better sound quality on the rr.

      Need to know first if you are riding a bike with a tft. Because music and nav will still go through the tft but you won’t get voice navigation without the nav which may be fine but want you to know. If you simply pair the phone 2 slot (or 1 without a tft) to the phone the connection to the nav will automatically be killed. I would recommend deleting the pairing in the nav as well but it will work prior. Yes I also ran into some quirky things dealing with dmc switching so not surprised there. Hey David, I'm planning a big trip for the 1st week of September for the wife and I and I'm in need of a few answers on the Nav 6. I've been using REVER to plan the rides and stab the waypoints. I then Export into Garmin BaseCamp to package it for the Nav 6. Everything comes across fine for the first day on the road (including waypoints)...but everyday thereafter everything transfers except all the waypoints. I'm not sure why this is happening and I can find no explanation anywhere. It's probably not critical to any leg of the trip as long as the track and route are set, but I'd still like to understand what might be happening. any help would be appreciated. Just thought I'd ask...

    I sold my packtalk bold which can't multitask consistently and bought the Sena 50s. Everything on this video connected the same way everything just work now with the 50s. I do not recommend the Packtalk with nav6 and 2021 tft version. Known issues: It wont turn off while still connected to tft, sometimes won't reconnect to tft or gps (sometimes consistently and you need to turn off everything), issues streaming music (delays, stutter, no sound even though it song is playing, lowers music volume for gps announcement and doesn't reset to previous volume, can't talk to Siri while navigating and playing music). No issues with the 50s after several trips.

      Actually you can still connect the phone to the tft and benefit from the BMW connected app even if you choose not to connect the tft to the headset. So headset phone 1 slot goes to goes to your phone. Phone 2 slot goes to nav. Phone connected to tft. Phone connected to Nav. Hey David. Just got the 1st service and latest firmware update done on the '20 GSA. Obviously I have the TFT and the Nav6, and I've seen you and a few other folks utilize the BMW Connected app. I haven't really seen anyone making use of the Garmin Smartlink app. Now I'm just a novice at getting my head around all this new tech....so my question is, exactly how useful is it to run the Connected app and the Smartlink app with the TFT, the Nav6 and a Cardo Packtalk bold. I guess I'm having a bit of trouble getting the overview of functional benefits and how they would be used and in what order.... Would it be better to not even use the apps once you get the setup installed and working well together? Thanks for any advice...

    • @aMAYSingLife
      @aMAYSingLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Biggest thing I use the smart link for is live traffic and radar. The radar likely most of all. Sometimes the traffic can be annoying because it can reroute your when it’s not necessary but it has saved me a few times. If it says there is a huge delay I may pull up Waze and double check it. Most of the time it’s right but it does have odd results at times.

      Hey David, so glad you made this video on pairing up the Packtalk. I used your previous video on the Sena as a guide for the correct pairing sequence for my Packtalk. It actually worked very well. The only thing I did differently was to secondarily pair the headset to the Nav6 using the roller. I also found that the bike had to be off in order for the Packtalk to pair with the GPS. Frustrating but finally figured that out. All in all I like the Packtalk a lot. It works very well with the BMW TFT / Nav6 systems

      Make a personal group on your phone and put your primary contacts in that group. Once you have paired the phone go into the Bluetooth section on your phone under the pairing to the tft and set it to only share the personal group not the whole address book. This solves the favorites from not coming over (which still chaps me the fact that doesn’t work) leaving you with easy access to those contacts you really need.

      Laurent Amat there are some really great things changing with the tft and how it displays data from the connected app. I truly believe Bmw is planning for a day when the Garmin will no longer be necessary. Since I have the nav6 I typically use it but I can see how saving 1k would be possible and still feel as if you have decent navigation at this point.

    I’m looking for some advice on the proper pairing and connection sequence between the Packtalk, BMW TFT and phone. My current pairing process/sequence:
    1. Pair the phone to the TFT.
    2. Pair the TFT (helmet #1) to Cardo Packtalk BT #1
    3. Pair phone to Cardo Packtalk BT #2
    Step #3 is theoretically unnecessary because the BMW should broker the connections and commands across from the Packtalk to the phone, but the Cardo app doesn’t connect without #3. It works for some things (phone calls), but not others. For example, “Hey Google, what is the temperature?” works if the bike is off and it goes through connection #3, but only shows the results of the question on the phone screen without voice if the bike is on. It fails to forward the voice response back to the Cardo.
    And there are other problems. Among other things, I want to record the Bluetooth feed from the Packtalk (both personal and intercom voice) on the phone. This works while I have the Packtalk connected to the phone, but it disappears when I start the bike whereupon it takes over the Bluetooth connection and fails to forward the Packtalk Bluetooth audio to the phone recorder app.
    I could just delete the phone-TFT pairing to allow only the working Packtalk-phone pairing, but this eliminates not only the Nav/Phone/Music TFT control, but more importantly also eliminates the data feed to the Motorrad Connected phone app.
    Cardo support gave zero help and so I'm hoping someone has a good solution.

    Hi Dave,
    Great video. What firmware did your PTB have?
    Cardo have changed what you can and can't do with each firmware update.
    I have a 2014 1200GSW with a Nav V gps. I had a Sena for past 8 years and always paired my Sena to Nav V and Iphone to Nav V.
    I was able to use the GPS as a HUB for Sena and Iphone. I could get and make calls with IPhone, use the Garmin Smark LInk for traffic info and listen to music on my SD card in my Nav V.
    Just bought a Cardo PTB with new firmware 5.7. I cannot use my Nav V as a HUB for Iphone and Cardo PTB.
    Contacted Cardo Support and got this response..
    "Our headquarters said the it will not work using the GPS as a hub. They said you will need to pair your phone to channel 1 and your GPS as channel 2. They said that is how our units are designed to work. "
    I think is it very presumptuous of Cardo to think that every rider wants to use a cell phone when riding, although I realize that many use theirs cell phones to navigate now.
    I guess that's ok if you only ride in your own country.
    I can now only listen to music from my Iphone and am unable to use Garmin Smart Link App for Traffic info.
    I'm a Canadian who does 99% of my riding in the US (except for past year :-( ) and I won't use my Iphone (put it in Airplane mode) in the US because it is absurdly riduculous what our cellphone companies charge for us to roam in the US.
    I have a ton of music in my Nav V that I can't listen to .
    David, do you know of a "workaround" where I can use the Nav V as a HUB and can Pair my Iphone to Nav V and PTD to Nav V?
    Sorry for the long rant.

    • @aMAYSingLife
      @aMAYSingLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since you don’t have a tft then I would pair it like this. Phone paired to gps. Phone paired directly to cardo just as they stated, slot 1 for phone, gps or phone 2 slot (this will allow you to control phone calls with wonderwheel) for gps. Pair gps to phone. This lets you use the smart link app (although it was limited with the V compared to the VI. It will also allow you to play music on the sd card on the V. By them both being paired as phones phone 1 will over take phone 2 which is likely what you want. If you are listening to music with the nav and you get a phone call it will overtake. It’s true the V can’t be a hub in the same way the VI can. It doesn’t allow streaming music from the phone to go through the gps to the cardo. That is likely what they were thinking of when stating hub because that is the purpose most do that for.
      Recap
      Cardo paired to both phone (phone 1) and gps (phone 2).
      Gps paired with phone - purely if you want phone calls to pop up on nav for accept or deny. And if you want smart link capability.
      Hope that helps

      I've tried all these and the the PTB goes out of whack when I activate music and the try to route. Music will play from Nav V until I navigate a route. Then music becomes a dull squelch.
      Senas allowed me to pair like this but Cardos obviously have a different algorithm where you can't.
      A per the message from Cardo .......Our headquarters said the it will not work using the GPS as a hub. They said you will need to pair your phone to channel 1 and your GPS as channel 2. They said that is how our units are designed to work.
      I guess I'll have to live without the Garmin Smart Link App on my Nav V and listen to music from my Iphone.
      Thankfully, I can listen to music from my Phone with it in Airplane mode when in the US.
      Thanks for your input Dave

      Here are a few suggestions. 1. Firmware check on the cardo is always worth doing. This will require you to pair briefly the cardo to the phone, update firmware, then pair back to the bike. However, i believe you can do that on the computer too if you prefer. 2. Location of the phone. See if it makes a difference if you keep the phone close to the tft screen. 3. Does the slim version have a flip up antenna? I’ve not used the slim so not sure but I’d insure that is up. 4. Download a few songs on the phone (dont stream) and see if that makes a difference. Sorry for the delay in responding, I’m on a trip across US to Oregon and have had little service much of the time. Let me know if any of this helps.. Good Luck!

    I'm still waiting on a response from Cardo reference Packtalk Bold issues with the TFT, all seem to stem from having the intercom in MESH mode, Cardo don't seem to want to deal with the issue.

    • @aMAYSingLife
      @aMAYSingLife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately I didn't have the cardo long enough to use it with someone who also had a cardo. most who I run with run Sena so I have to use the phone 2 slot to talk to them. As a test, dont connect the nav and see if Mesh runs solid. My guess is it will. That means its either a frequency over worked issue or a processor not handling the multiple streams very well. might at least let you troubleshoot and decide how bad do you need the nav or to talk to your mates.

    Many thanks for this very instructive video. Much appreciated!!!
    Quick question: should I not be willing to get any sound from NAV VI (neither turn by turn nor music), can I connect then to both TFT and mobile to access Cardo app at the same time? If yes, should TFT be paired as a mobile or a GPS? And guess that the mobile should be paired as a mobile...
    Finally, would Cardo Packtalk voice control work with this setup?
    Super thanks!

    • @aMAYSingLife

      If ok with not using the nav for music or turn by turn then best config is phone slot 1 to phone and phone slot 2 to tft. This would allow voice access, app access, and still allow connected app to work with tft allowing nav and music. Still pair the nav to the phone so you get smart app from Garmin for traffic and weather.

      I don’t believe there is a seal that would prevent it from being opened and closed back up. Registering the device would be the tell whether it had been activated for warranty. If all the manuals are there and you can register for a full warranty And it works properly I wouldn’t worry about it unless you suspect it’s older model sold as new. I got it from Amazon for the convenience of quick shipping and easy return if something is wrong.

    • @aMAYSingLife
      @aMAYSingLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should be able to join the group by using the buttons and not use the app although the app makes it easier. That’s the difficult part that neither BMW nor cardo or Sena understand is to connect these things the way you need to you eliminate the ability to use the benefits of the app made for the headset. This is slightly bigger issue with cardo because their app is so damn useful but you don’t have to use it to connect to other riders. It can be done with the buttons

      If you have a really big address book, create a group just for your mobile needs… sync only that group. This will solve speed of update as well as will fix being able to see the contacts. Usually “recent” will show up even if the address book didn’t come over. Check recent for return calls. Finally I sure your phone is giving permissions of the address book to the tft. Android is notorious for this as the security is in a diff place than just Bluetooth settings if I recall.

      Ok, I have phone working on the TFT, media on TFT and Nav 6 is telling me where to go. But the connectivity for DMC so I can communicate with husband and group is a non event. To do this I need to disconnect the Nav 6 totally then setup the Cardo Channel 1 AGAIN, through the TFT and the phone. This is really clumsy and not user friendly at all. Communication on the Bluetooth phone settings shows all three are connected but in reality they must be conflicting.
      I think the only way we can make this work is to totally disconnect the bluetooth settings on the Nav 6. Use the Cardo link to TFT - turn the sound on for TFT Navigation as we have done in past and use the Nav 6 as a map only unit without the added functions. Very expensive unit with limited use :(

Now try pairing a headset. It’s all just so clunky that this man had to make a 17 min video on how to do it. It all should just work. It’s 2024 how in the hell can technology be so clunky? It truly blows my mind. Why do I even need a separate nav when BMW has a TFT? Seems crazy and no I’m not the first to say this. BMW needs to give up and just add Apple car play or android whichever.
