    Crazy to try and blame a center who has already done the dirty work to completely seal off his man for an easy dunk/ layup for imploring his teamate to pass him the ball for a layup, sure he should have given up instead of taking a 3 seconds but this is way more of a Randle mistake then a Gobert mistake.

      At no point did I blame Gobert for that possession! I do think he shouldn’t have sulked but this video is about his negative impact on the offense + his positive impact on the defense (and how everyone else can’t survive when he’s off the floor).

      @@verygoodbrother I disagree. Pointing out a phenomenon is not the same thing as assigning blame or even attempting to explain. Jake told a story, he didn’t say this person or that person blew it. Moreover, Rudy is partially at fault for fumbling so many passes that Julius doesn’t trust him. That said, Julius is at fault for not making the easy pass. If you don’t trust your teammate that is a MAJOR problem. Lastly Ant is at fault for winding Gobert up instead of calming him down. That is the opposite of true leadership. Yell at him later, help him win now. Judgment is part of leadership and Ant showed poor judgment here.

      @@howlsandgrowlshoops Look, what Rudy did could have been avoided by his actions but after a while people hit their breaking point. I could go back through Rudy's career and show this same thing happening constantly to him. It's also in the moment and i completely understand him being pissed.
      Everyone wants to bash Rudy all the time but understand every player has weaknesses, some more than others some less than others.
      They had to get two players to replace KAT and frankly Randle doesn't come close to the defense Karl provided. Karl was also the MOST reliable shooter the Wolves had, hands down not even an argument..
      I know the reasoning behind trading Karl but it was the worst move this team could have done.
      This was a Randle created issue and based on the 3 minutes around this play it's clear Randle does not like Rudy or respect him as a basketball player.. Maybe they can figure this out and move on but this team currently will not make it out of the first round.

    The problem isnt Rudy Gobert...
    The problem is the Wolves entire gameplan of trying to hunt 3s instead of just playing sound basketball.
    If the Wolves simply used their size to punish teams inside, and play a more inside out basketball. They'd be way better.
    But they sabotoge themselves and their players so they can try to fit in as a more "Modern team".
    It's literally been the bane of this team entire season, and even last year in the WCF.
    When they started playing this 3 point spamming agenda after they beat Denver. Go figure, that's how they ended up losing to Dallas.
    But keep hunting those 3s like some cheesy basketball, and racking up more Ls - and then just say:
    "iTs 2024 bRuH!"
    "We DoNE wITh 90S"
    Smh. What a disgrace.

      Exactly correct. Last year they shot the least amount of threes but made the best percentage. Got to the conferance finals. Now trade kat and jack up threes, playin tournament at best. Very average team. I agree, pound the ball inside on teams.

    • @ralphp.3954
      @ralphp.3954 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      Gobert is the problem in that situation though, because he isn't enough of an offensive threat, even posted up, to make inside-out offensive play work. His only reliable offensive move is the alley oop finish - something he can't even initiate by himself. If Rudy catches it in the post he needs to pass it immediately because he doesn't have the coordination to not get stripped or to make a post move. If there's no threat of a post score, inside out offense won't work. Also Naz and Randle are too small to play like traditional 5s.

    • @user-dn3fn3bg4l
      @user-dn3fn3bg4l หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@ralphp.3954 It's not about Gobert. It's about the T-Wolves hunting 3s, instead of playing sound basketball to fit their strength. Which is using their size advantage.
      That is primarily talking to guards like Ant and Donte. Who drive to the lane not even looking to score, but to simply just kick out for 3. That's 3 point hunting, and that's not good basketball.
      Ant needs to use his size against guards, and Donte needs to stop driving just to kick out for the 3. But actually attack.
      And more concerningly, we need to run an actual organized offense. This team is playing glorfied rec ball. They have no offensive direction other then to drive and kick out to 3s on some elementary basketball. And their substitutions are rudimentary as well. It's like his substituion are already pre-planned before the game, and he makes no adjustment based upon what's happening in real time.
      This team is being run like it's coached by a middle school basketball coach. It's embarrassing.

  • @Michael_Page

    They probably have a Randle problem. Gobert has had some very bad eye test moments, but the analytics show he has a lot of value in the right situation. Gobert, like many big men traditionally, wants to be rewarded for doing dirty work. It's not crazy to expect the ball when you have a midget buried under the rim. It's not crazy, as a multiple time DPOY and the defensive anchor, to expect teammates to follow his defensive instruction. On the other hand, Randle is a statpadder who doesn't do any dirty work at all but expects Gobert to clear out so Randle can do his iso thing 25 feet away from the basket. Not a great situation, but what do you expect when a cheap owner breaks up a WCF team to dump salary?

They traded 220 million in salary for 65 million in salary. It was basically a Donte for KAT swap with Randle and other stuff thrown in to make the money work. Unless Randle opts into the last year of his deal, he's gone after the season.
      Won't be able to trade Randle for anything because Randle's expiring deal is worth more than Randle. The whole point of getting Randle was getting money off the books. Swapping Randle for a good player (not that anyone would give up a good player for just Randle) with years left on their deal defeats the purpose of a salary dump. If the Wolves wanted to pay a good player, they would have kept KAT.
      Crystal ball: Randle will be on the team all year. The Wolves will fight for the 6th seed and lose in the first round. Randle will leave in the offseason to go to some awful team on a 3 year, 75 million type deal. Ant will demand a trade after he gets his big deal. I think it's moreso: Gobert with the combination of weak interior passers. Plenty of teams employ non-shooting centers without tanking their offense (Capela, Zubac, Poeltl, Jarrett Allen, Lively, Duren etc.). The difference is, a team's collective ability to punish helping off a center by turning it into an auto-dunk. Towns, Conley, and SloMo were our main Gobert finders, and 2 of them are gone while Conley is in a diminished role. Randle and Ant need to step up, learn how to throw a lob, and insta-punish the type of help that's currently in their way.

    @deanweathers8271 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    Problem is, we knew this already. We knew that Rudy can clog the paint and make it easy for rim protectors to help on drives. There's a reason why Minnesota was at best an average offense in all of Gobert's seasons here despite having a wealth of offensive talent, and while that isn't solely on Rudy he's responsible for a large chunk of it. It's a tradeoff for his all-time level rim protection... but that isn't there this year. Per dunksandthrees, the wolves are allowing opponents to shoot 64.5% on rim shots this season, which is a huge step down from the 51.5% last season; this isn't solely Rudy's fault either (because like the video points out, the wolves defense craters without him on the floor), but his decision-making in drop coverage has left a lot to be desired.
    With KAT and Slomo gone and Conley looking every bit of 37 years, nobody seems to be able to utilize him effectively on offense. Ant can't find him on rolls consistently and his saving grace is using him to set up his own buckets. And Randle is... ugh. Here's a fun stat (per pbpstats): Randle has 9 assists to Gobert in 317 minutes played together so far. Slomo had 37 in 867 minutes and KAT had 66 in 1279 minutes with Rudy last year. Even if we scale it back another season, when the team was just as dysfunctional as this year and KAT took a significant injury break, KAT still found Rudy 30 times in the 529 minutes they shared the floor. He was a far more willing passer to Rudy than Randle and the connection was quite literally there from day 1.
    I'm inclined to believe that Gobert, who is already a limited offensive player, is being completely iced out of the offense because of the playmaking deficiencies of our offensive initiators. And I really don't know if this can change...

    • @nydibs
      @nydibs หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think that’s just due to how the offense is run, KAT and Kyle ran through the elbow mostly how they got their assists to Gobert. Randle is catching it at the 3 point line, which makes it impossible to get Rudy involved

Rudy's role is to defend, rebound, screen, and get lobs or put back dunks. I'm annoyed we resigned him but as long as he sticks to his role then I'm good with it.

      Randle is completely in the wrong. Ant should have been bitching Randle out and Rudy shouldn't have gotten the 3 second violation but shit happens in the moment and that loss was not his fault. Twolves are a worst team than last year because they decided to trade Karl.. Karl made up for a lot of Rudy's weaknesses and vice versa... Randle does not really help this team the way Karl did.
      The foul after was questionable if you go and actually watch it Rudy barely moved. The pass from Randle after the 3 second call he threw it as hard as he could to try and make a point but it was a bad pass in general..

    Wolves playing like garbage is great for the content creators! 252 comments is elite work.
    I personally think that Randle made the correct call with not passing to Rudy on 'that play' - Barnes isn't a 6'1 PG that Rudy can man handle and at that time, both Randle and Rudy thought that they were the better options. Would have been nice and professional if they were able to both get on with it from that point on and not completely derail the game.
    Rudy clogging the paint will be a constant issue and despite the Wolves having a below average offence last season, I believe it worked better because KAT's starting position and threat was beyond the 3pt line (I could be way off in my recollection). Randle may be shooting the 3 ball decently well, but KAT was always that catch and shoot threat that needed the ultimate respect - so in that spot, the lane becomes less crowded.
    Mike dropping his 3pt % by over 10% and Jaden shooting 31% from 3 isn't helping the spacing much either - defenders can sag off even more from them which is highlighting the spacing issues even more.
    Anyways, thanks for coming to my TED talk and keep up the content Jake - I don't always agree, but respect the work you put in on this venture.

    55 year Knicks fan came over with trade view is Rudy needs to adjust to playing with Randle not KAT which is often going to be get out of the way (paint) and let leagues preeminent paint bully rumble. Julius is un guardable 1 v 1 when 1 dribble away from basket no matter who is on him. He has a downhill game KAT doesn't and he is highly efficient at it often drawing and 1s. If Rudy's man doubles down on Randle in lane then Rudy should be awaiting hand off or lob pass not have his back to basket pouting or worse getting 3 second violation clogging lane. Just need to watch film of how effective Knicks were last year with both Randle and Brunson attacking paint. Wolves are a better team then 24 Knicks primarily because they have Ant who is better than Brunson and mostly equal everywhere else.

    When are we gonna acknowledge that Jaden McDaniels is one of the most overrated players in the league and is being overpaid, honestly trading Kat to save money while paying him 20 million is a crime, dude doesn’t rebound or pass well and can only score well like once a week. (But he’s good on defense right? ) Kinda but not as much as he’s blown up to be, he’s a terrible defensive rebounds and consistently allows smaller guys to beat him to rebounds for second chance rebounds, he’s also crazy foul prone. Basically dude is a good on ball defender because of his length but he’s mediocre or worse in pretty much every aspect of the game, and him having 1 crazy defensive highlight a month won’t change that😤

      @@Creaky_ No. Naz absolutely needs to start at the 4. Garza will be a good back up. Randle is not needed and has high trade value

      @AAONMS1 garza? Eventually, you're going to learn that garza is not a rotational nba player

    Yall gotta chill and stop overreacting after every loss, its literally 15 games into the season with 2 brand new players playing heavy minutes! Is your memory really THAT bad that you don't remember Gobert lost a game for us last year too, making money gesture to the ref! This is just Rudy being Rudy, its nothing to make a deal out of, let alone making an entire video named "We have a Rudy problem" SERIOUSLY dude go smoke some flower and chill out, its legal in Minnesota, as far as I know.

    This might be an unpopular opinion, but I think if we get some better rebounding and proper defensive rotations especially from Naz or Ju, this team is fine. Rudy will always be a flawed offensive player and everyone knows this. I don't think Rudy has been particularly terrible defensively, it's just that he normally has to help Jaden who's getting wiped by screens at the point of attack and he's being indecisive because he doesn't fully trust Naz or Ju will properly rotate on defense so his cat and mouse game isn't as effective. IMO, he needs to stop overthinking, just play free on defense and live with the results. Can't really blame him when he's the team's only center. If I'm the wolves FO, I call philly to ask about Drummond for a couple of 2nd round picks.

      Or maybe Portland would give up one of their 3 centers for, I hate to say it but, one or more of our developmental guys like Miller, Clark, TSJ, etc.
