How To Install Graco Extend2Fit Convertible Car Seat Rear-Facing

  • Graco Extend2Fit convertible car seat installation for rear-facing placement. In this video I am using the seat belt to securely install the car seat.
    Make sure to fully review the owner’s manual for best results. Installing a rear facing car seat with a seat belt can be the best option depending on your child’s weight and model year of your vehicle. After installation, there should be very little movement in the car seat when pushed laterally. When tightening straps, do not worry about overtightening - it is better to have the car seat safely secured than to have it too loose. It is best to ensure the back of the car seat is not touching the back seat of the passenger sitting in the front seat.
    Your baby’s safety is top priority. Installing car seats in the rear facing position is recommended to be followed for babies younger than age two. In some states, local police departments or community centers provide free evaluation of existing car seat installations, even providing complete installation at no charge. It is best to check with your local municipality and see if an appointment is required.
    The Graco Extend2Fit convertible car seat allows for your child to sit rear-facing for up to 50 pounds. Key features include six reclining positions and an extended panel that provides up to 5 inches of additional legroom. The color of the car seat featured in this video is ‘Campaign’.

    Very informative video. We use the tethered straps, which click into our car, making it a lot easier, but whenever a family member picks us up to have family time, they don't have it, so this video came in handy. (:

    The manual does say to store the latch strap in the belt path that's not being used - so with the rear facing install, the latch belt needs to be stored in the forward facing belt path. Other than that, great video :)

    The seat should be tight with very little wiggle room. First, you should’ve moved that front passenger seat all the way forward prior to the install. You should’ve used your upper body as leverage to push the seat all the way back against the backseat. Then you pull the seatbelt harness as tightly as you could. This demo is very unsafe. I actually paid and got trained by a Child Passenger Safety Technician to install infant and convertible car seats.

    • @dalneshahelcher9319
      @dalneshahelcher9319 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Henry Farthington the base is connected to the bottom of the car seat already. This car seat is not made to carry around meaning it should stay connected at all times. You can also take the 2 latches from the side and hook them in to your car seats if they have the hooks.

    You are supposed to put weight in the middle of the seat to to get a solid install when locking the seat belt, you should only check for movement at the belt path and there should only be 1” of movement and your seat should not touch the back of another seat....

    Only thing that would change on this car seat is the opening that you fit your hand through for seatbelt . Legit are they made for girls hands or people with tiny hands I couldn’t even fit my hand in never mind whole arm would make the whole bigger for sure , had to snake it through and finally got it 15 mins later smh

    JOIN CARSEATS FOR THE LITTLES
    This is not a correct install at all. Number one the latch anchor belt should be moved to the forward facing belt path slot if you are installing rearfacing with seatbelt, you never run both through the same opening, number two that isn’t anywhere near tight enough, you have to apply a good amount of pressure/body weight to the seat to tighten, number 3 the car seat shouldn’t brace against the back of the front seat, depending on the manufacturer of the seat there are different rules of how much space should be in between the car seat & the back of the front seat, with graco seats you have to have enough space to easily slide a piece of paper between them, so it’s hard to tell from the video, this may be okay here but you definitely never want it bracing against it.

      You never use both latch and seatbelt at the same time. If properly installed, the seatbelt is just as safe as latch.

    • @SettaMalick
      @SettaMalick 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I Gullett you should absolutely never use both the seat belt and LATCH in combination to one another. That is not what they are designed for and can compromise the seat. One or the other, and LATCH usually should not be used if a child is over 40lbs depending on what is recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. Not to mention, attaching a latch tether to something that it was not designed to accommodate adds no additional safety, and can be more dangerous as it was not designed to withstand crash forces.

    • @JH-dh9xz
      @JH-dh9xz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @doglover2161
      @doglover2161 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sorry, but you’re wrong. You are not supposed to use both the seat belt and latch straps. It’s not safe, and car seat manufacturers specifically state not to do so. The only place you anchor them, is on the appropriate anchors. If your car doesn’t have them YOU DONT USE THE LATCH SYSTEM.
      So no, YOU’RE wrong.
