    This video proves that linemen are some of the most athletic individuals on the field. To be capable of moving at any sort of pace and agility while 100 pounds heavier than most skill positions is incredible.

    Thank you. I needed this inspiration. You’re trying to get to 250 and that’s my current weight. I’m 49 and 6’. To see you physically run a +7 mile gives me hope. I’m going to use your great example.

    I really appreciate you putting this out there. I'm 37, 300lbs and I'm training to join the IMPD this fall. I didn't think I'd have any chance to make a 1.5 mile at 16:28 at my size.     For your first mile in what was probably a long time, you did a great job! Considering you went out at 6-minute pace for your first lap, you could definitely get your mile time down to 7 minutes flat with more even splits, like aiming for 1:45, then 3:30 for your first and second laps so you don't burn yourself out too fast.

    Pretty cool that that relaxed looking pace is a 7’20” mile; I would’ve guessed more like 8 to 9 minute pace just casually looking at him run.

      Probably looks relaxed due to his height of 6' 5", but even then from the outside a 7-8 min mile generally looks a lot slower than it is

    Nothing but respect here, I can't say I am lineman size at about 230 pounds, but I picked running up again about a year ago when I decided I needed a change and by last fall I ran my first 10k. That message of break through the wall is the best advice in my mind though, its all about knowing you can go harder and pushing that little extra.

      Brother what did you do any advice for me? I was 305 In powerlifting shape then the last 9 months got to 255 for a police academy run and I’m still struggling any advice would be appreciated

      @davebooe3626 for me I weight trained 3-5x a week. Maintaining my calories around 2000-25000. I'd have a 8 hour window throughout the day that I'd eat at doesn't matter what time you pick but when you make it that don't change it could be 12-8 ,10-6 etc. Black coffee and water alot for me. You don't have to be motivated everyday the key is consistency. No way you can be motivated day in and day out but damn sure can be consistent!

    Hey, just stumbled upon your channel. I can appreciate your candor and effort in this video! I ran competitively when I was young, bulked up a good bit for me in my 30's (to around 190-200lbs at 5'10" tall), and eventually found that having the extra weight (though more powerful in the gym) wasn't as healthy for me as being lighter. Now I'm back down into the 162 pound range, and in my mid-40's. I can run sub-7 minute miles again, and once again log 10K's in under an hour. I'm not as fast as I was in my 20's, but I also found myself in a time when I had to go through the mental gymnastics of trying to figure out what was most healthy for me. I'm not setting any records today, but my health is now phenomenal, and my cardiovascular fitness is doing well (which we all know is so important for long term health) .
    I have to say that it's REALLY impressive to see you doing a mile at that pace at your weight... that's quite an athletic accomplishment as a guy who outweighs me by 130 pounds. I hope you have continued to great places on your health and wellness journey!

    tip for your running since you mentioned joint pain. try to work ur cadence up to around 180 strides/min. reduces a lot of the impact of running and can improve your efficiency

    41yr smoked for 20+ years average build but not fit bmi 26 and I did a 9:30 mile...today...took me a few weeks to even be able to jog a mile without stopping...If I max out at 9 min I would be satisfied for the rest of my life....I've never been a jogger..or athletic but its such a simple and effective weight loss and cardio exercise...7 mins that's just scary!

    never get discouraged about your pace. i used to run 32 minute 5k and now i run a 24 minute. i am definitely not naturally good at running either. it's all about practice.

    At 25, I ran a 6:52 mile at 240 pounds after virtually no running training up until that point in my life. What helped was that I had recently dropped 85 pounds and felt light as a feather.

      That's a pretty impressive baseline mile time with no training! If you find yourself starting to like running, you should try increasing your distance at a slower pace and go on some trails for a change of scenery... the track is no place to run for enjoyment haha

    man! Im down 30 pounds in two months and I still haven't gotten under 400lbs. I feel better though. today I ran a mile in under 16 minutes and I was so proud of myself lol. keep going bruh!!

      Reading this gave me goosebumps. I started walking this summer bc my weight was the most it's ever been at 260lbs (5'10") and I'm only 35. So I lost 25 lbs over several months of walking without changing my diet (it's not that bad, I'm just lazy). But now that I've been jogging the last month ive lost 20 lbs in just the last month alone. So jogging obviously works. It's hard but keep doing it, it gets easier. I'm rooting for you guys 💪💪

    His 7’22” time is insanely good for a stone cold beginner runner irrespective of weight, and his general fitness from football is surely carrying over. I’m half his weight at under 140 pounds and have been running (though not specifically training for a mile) for over six months regularly and the last time I timed myself on a track mile, I was only at 7’45”. Hoping to come back here one day to brag when I eventually crack 7’.

      I am around 140 lbs too (on the smaller side for most guys my height i'd say), and i resumed running 3 years ago after a 10 year break due to a herniated disc. I think my first mile was around 7'50" and i've worked my way down to around 6'15" but it's been a hard slog (and I have to admit i really dislike the 1 mile distance because i find it really uncomfortable, and much prefer 5k and onward). how's your progress been going?

      @@joddle23 Oh, so much has changed! Last October (‘21), I ran a 70s 400 and a 2’51” 800, so I think my mile would’ve been around 6:30’ish then but I never measured myself on the mile, and was very injury prone, so all of this 2022 year, I started dedicatedly weight training to gain muscle and am just under 160 lbs now (BMI 21), which feels much better. I still run but only one long run (7-8 miles) and one track workout every week and haven’t lately measured myself and am almost certainly slower than last year, but am pretty sure I’d still be able to run a sub-7 mile because I’m able to do 5x800m repeats on the track at around 7 to 7’15” pace.

    Very inspirational. As a fellow big guy 6’3” 260 (not as big as you) I run like 11 min miles so to see that my goal is possible to run a 7 is very inspirational. Fastest mile I’ve ever run in my life is 8:59 which is slow, and I’ve never once ran faster than that

      Keep it up chief I'm 260 and 6'3 as well. I run a 6:50 mile. "good" big runners exist and you can be one of them. I'm aiming at a sub 6.

      @@StrengthScholar0 oddly enough i don't really give out, i just slow down. I work a job that requires me to walk like 10 miles a day, so i can run about 4 miles total and its either my calves or the blisters on my feet. I sometiems get such bad blisters that i have to stop. i just ran an 8:55 this morning for a new PR! Feel like i'm definitely getting faster because of my job, diet, and i've been doing a bit more training! i think if i lose about 20lbs and continue training my core i can hit a 7 possibly sub 7! gotta get to low 8s first!
      I've always sucked at running cause i have slight skeletal issues and weakness on one side. I've always gravitated more towards power lifting and weights but now that i've been doing that less and less i'm getting faster!

      Makes sense your endurance isn't the thing giving out. Anyways...
      When I said "give out" I meant "stop pushing". Sorry for my inaccurate language. The reason I asked is because for me personally my calves are the biggest thing they give out on me and doing weighted calf raises really made a world of difference. As for chafing, you can get the anti chafe sticks that triathletes use for super cheap and wear tight fitting synthetic boxers.
      Blisters are a bit more tricky but usually the source for those are your shoes or socks. Maybe you need a shoe with a wider toe box?
      All of these were things that really helped me out in my running journey.
      Also it's great that you lift as well. All of that strength is going to help you with your speed once your body adapts to use it for running.
      Stay driven and you'll get even further than you already have! I wish you the best.

    Well done feller. I run a big 10k every year, the heaviest I ran it at was over 20 stone, maybe 20½. It was around 55 minutes. It was hard but then a 10k is always hard for me at any weight. The best thing to do is to keep up that running and say lithe as you age.

      my father lost a lot of weight at 6 foot and he's down to 160 now, easily running miles in the 6 minute zone. The key is to shave off the excess weight and gain fast twitch muscle fibers.

      ​@@xum0007 totally agree! i think for people trying to get from, say, 7:30-8 minute mile pace to around 6-6:30 minute mile pace (whether it's for one mile, 5k, 10k, etc), the first hurdle is losing excess weight and doing enough weekly runs to build up your endurance and also your mental strength to push through discomfort. to get your times down below that, you probably need to start incorporating speed work into your runs, but tbh haven't done that since my hs xc days since i'm content to be a decent but not particularly fast runner

      @@joddle23 yup also breathing consistently and trying to zone out from time to time is also great. My fastest runs at any given distance have been from when I’m zoned out completely and I only realize what I’m doing after I’ve finished my run. Running is easy on the mind (unless you’re running a marathon and on the urge of collapse) unlike ball sports so it’s best to just enjoy, breath repeatedly, and try to keep a steady pace rather than varying between jogging and running. I’ve been running for a few years now and even I don’t know how to properly use my energy and efficiently vary between sprints and jogs... someone running sub-9 should certainly keep a steady pace.

    Great run. A mile is about 1609 meters so to run a mile on a 1600 meter track you need to add on about 9 meters more then 4 laps.

    This is very impressive at 290. My pace is only slightly faster at 220 but my heart rate is almost 170 at only 1 mile.
    What kind of aerobic training got your endurance to this level? What was your HR here?

    The fitter you are, the easier you look running any given pace, and this guy is clearly well above average fit despite his weight to be “jogging” a mile under seven and half. Most beginner runners starting in their late thirties would need many months to get to this point (unless they’ve already developed their aerobic fitness via other sports).

    I'm like 190 lbs (85 kg) and I can barely run a 8:30 mile and I been running like a mile a day for 6 months
    I also smoke a lot but my lungs arent the problem its just painful on my body pounding against the ground. The pain has reduced a lot since i started but i feel like i should be a little more comfortable with it now. i think i need to do speedwork and also run longer distances.

    It should be noted that a few years ago another former athlete like yourself, Eddie Hall, was Champion for Worlds Strongest Man and like you he's not that far after his "prime" and as he weighs 300 ish lbs he can run a 7:30 mile.

    So given that rate you're not far off, plus I recall Mr. T a two time Champion for a Strong Man Competition had ran 4 miles straight non stop and altho I don't know the time frame, his body weight was 244 lbs. So somewhat lighter there than you but still, for 4 miles nonstop? It's intense, so those are some empirical realities for inspiration, and I really wish you safety and luck! You look to me like you have good running form too!

    I was mesmerized by the video. You did not even look fast! And yet the time spoke for itself. Amazing. All that skinny people who run a lot and pride themselves to be fast are not fast indeed. And the author ran the first time ever after being injured many times and weighing 290??? This is freaking incredible. I am impressed. It gave me inspiration. Thanks

    Nice . If you going to do any racing for fun look into ultra marathons on trails . Would love to see more ex pro athletes do ultras.
