  • Hey guys what’s happening? Niyat here with film comics explained! As requested, today we’re going to be exploring the 2007 thriller, The Invasion.
    Directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel and starring Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Jeremy Northam, Jeffrey Wright and Veronica Cartwright, the film is a modern adaptation of Jack Finney's classic novel, "The Body Snatchers.
    When a crashed space shuttle scatters debris across the US, a mysterious spore-like virus begins to pop up across the country. Within days, those that encountered the spore begin exhibiting strange behaviours, losing their individuality in favour of a cohesive collective hive-mind. One that threatens to eradicate the human way of life.
    The film follows Dr. Carol Bennell (Nicole Kidman), a psychiatrist who stumbles upon an alarming pattern of behaviour among her patients and those around her.
    Set against the backdrop of a world plagued by war, violence, and suffering, The Invasion presents a chilling vision of a future where humanity loses its emotional core. As the invasion begins, Carol and her friends must race against time to save her son, whose immunity may hold the key to a cure that can turn the tide.
    In this video, we are going to explore the film, how it compares to its source material, the viral pathogen that begins to change humanity and its origins, the infected, in addition to the ending.

    I was part of a test audience for The Invasion and in our viewing it had a completely different ending. After the car chase where they eventually get rescued and taken away in the helicopter that ends up being the last we see of them. The camera fades to several news channels displaying a bleak and dark ending. The infected were shown on local news stations posing as their loved ones urging their family members that had escaped to come home. They basically took over earth. At least that’s how I interpreted it. I assume people in the audience were unhappy or confused about the ending so the studio had done reshoots to give us a more positive outcome.

    I remember watching this film as a kid and having nightmares, wouldn't drink weird looking tea for weeks. The only thing I would add would be concerning a misunderstanding on the theme of communism with the bodysnatcher films. Originally, the author of the sci fi novel Jack Finney did not intend to create some kind of political allegory for the red fear or mccarthyism happening at the time ( wanting the story to be open ended). It was more that the audience that viewed the 1956 film/read the book projected their fears of those things onto the related material. Good Video Btw.

    This film had such a vast array of talents, yet the middling and unimaginative script and plot held it back. Factoring in a boring yet somehow rushed structure to the story, 'The Invasion' feels like a cheap, hollow, 'pod' duplicate version of it's source material. The screenwriters were onto something, yet it feels they tripped while at the halfway mark in the marathon of production. Nicole Kidman is genuinely amazing and without her as the lead, this movie would have felt lifeless, emotionless. Like the filmmakers had been assimilated themselves.

I don't feel emotions properly, I have strange mood swings, brain fog and difficulty learning/memorizing. I am incredibly apathetic.

      I wouldn't recommend anybody takes antidepressants tbh.
      I've been on them for 20yrs and there's suspicious evidence to suggest that they can cause long term brain damage, dementia risk, and permanent personality changes....added to that, more recently still, they're realising that they don't actually work....they never did in the way they specifically told people that they worked.
      I'm not a conspiracy theorists, but I wouldn't refuse to at least ponder the reality of antidepressants as being one of the biggest lies ever perpetuated by pharmaceutical companies in the 20th century and it made companies like Pfizer billions and billions of dollars in revenue of the back of people that the drugs were never going to help, and I think they knew that all along.

    • @OverdramaticAngel
      @OverdramaticAngel ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Just because a lot of people don't seem to realize it, if your antidepressants are making you feel that way, they aren't working and you should try other options. Shitty as it is, you may need to try more than one medication to find one that works. And then sometimes they become less effective so you need to find a new one.

    I was waiting for you to play the noise 'they' make in The Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978 version)

      Because in the video the quote is cut off.
      "In the right situation, we are all capable of the most terrible crimes. To imagine a world where this was not so, where every crisis did not result in new atrocities, where every newspaper is not full of war and violence. Well, this is to imagine a world where human beings cease to be human. "

    The hive mind seems to have its own goal, immediately playing with politics as soon as it had some sort of control, while the average infectants just went about their daily lives, not doing anything significant other than observation. This feels planned to me. I think this could be a way for a civilization to learn about humanity, while also driving them to extinction. If intelligent aliens are the perpetrators in this film, this could be a way for them to reset humanity, maybe to avoid a dangerous interstellar civilization, such as self replicating and rampant artificial intelligence, which I think they would see many warning signs in technology by this time (computers, spaceships, automated machinery, microscopic technology). But they also might be seeking research and knowledge, as biodiversity can be one of the most unique and unpredictable aspects of the universe. I think learning about any intelligent species would be beneficial to completely understanding life. Im sure this kind of research would be quite valuable to even advanced aliens. This could also be panspermia, but such a species ending virus like this would have surely happened on earth in the past 4 billion years, and especially not at the same time as a space faring civilization is beginning to arise, I think that is too big of a coincidence. It could be an alien lifeform which DOES periodically get to Earth and has been for a long time, but only effects a very slim amount of species. This is interesting as it could be a life form purposely spread across the galaxy to eliminate potentially dangerous intelligent lifeforms, or not necessarily dangerous, but ones that might develop dangerous technology that seems to be a common issue

    In her choice of a cocktail of medicine to stay awake she grabs a bottle of Ritalin but it is empty. Instead, she chooses Amitriptyline and ignores two 1000-count bottles of Amphetamine called ADDERRALL. Yeah, it is spelled incorrectly but that is pure SPEED. A medical doctor would have known to snap up that medication but instead finds some injectable Epinephrine.

    • @moretac
      @moretac 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well I think the epinephrine makes sense because it can be administered while she is asleep. Thought saw her taking a benzo as part of her stay awake cocktail which didn't make any sense.

    I'm not sure "pharmaceuticals bad" is a great takeaway from all this.
    Absolutely, trying to solve everything instantly with medication is a bad idea, and the pharma industry will exploit every opportunity it gets to squeeze all the money it can out people - especially in countries without a functional healthcare system. But on the other hand there are many cases where medication simply is the only sensible approach. As someone who only recently has been able to function like a regular person thanks to ADHD meds, I can tell you that it can be dangerous to mistrust a prescription based on some vague hearsay about medicine. Could have spared me 20 years of feeling like an absolute failure for struggling with basic everyday activities due to my symptoms...

    Te to the party here. I like your description of Nicole Kidmann as having the grace and poise of a Hitchcock lead actress. Quite true! I do, however, prefer the 70s version with Leonard Nimoy's stylish psychiatrist and the othet veteran actors, though seeing Veronica Cartwright in The Invasion was a treat.

    “There can be no human society without conflict: such a society would be a society not of friends but of ants. Even if it were attainable, there are human values of the greatest importance which would be destroyed by its attainment, and which therefore should prevent us from attempting to bring it about. On the other hand, we certainly ought to bring about a reduction of conflict. So already we have here an example of a clash of values and principles. This example also shows that clashes of values and principles may be valuable, and indeed essential for an open society.”
