- Hey guys what’s happening? Niyat here with film comics explained.
The "Planet of the Apes" franchise, spanning over 55 years, features a few distinct continuities over 9 live-action films and one television series. The films introduce us to a planet where apes have reached the pinnacle of civilization, reducing humans to a subjugated, enslaved class.
The first timeline included five movies made in the late 60’s and early 70’s, all fitting into a single closed loop. The era also included a short-lived 1974 TV series, reimagining the first film's narrative over 14 episodes in a new timeline. It was then rebooted in 2001 by Tim Burton.
A decade later, the franchise was reinvigorated once again with a phenomenal reboot trilogy featuring Andy Serkis as Caesar. This new continuity showcased a world where humans were dominant, slowly transitioning to one where apes ascend to power, a rise precipitated by human actions.
The recently released "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" basically picks up where the reboot trilogy left off, and today, we’re going to explore the events in each live-action film, culminating with a breakdown and review of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

I will be forever grateful that they didn't fumble the new rebooted trilogy
Same.
Same, the original planet of the apes made me the nerd i am today! I'd have been heartbroken if they'd f***ed it again after the version that shall not be named. 😂
Hard to do that whenever they are just regurgitating material like all of the other franchises. Hollywood is dead.
I like that it's a continuation of the trilogy but in a different time
Agreed!
“Koba belong in cage” might be the most personal devastating insult in the entire franchise. Caesar went right for the jugular with that one.
Was bummed out i had to pick up a coworkers shift with zero warning , but i got a whole 3 hour vid to keep me going. Thanks bro :)
Glad I could help
I know that feeling hope your night went by fast
Me last night, wish I saw this so I could watch it at work but I found this out after
Had to pick up a shift? Why not tell them "Sorry no thanks. I need that day off"
@@rbnzo25 Dont wanna get fired I guess
Something to note about Tim Burton’s 2001 Planet of the Apes is that the ending is actually much closer to how Boulle’s original novel actually ends.
I didn’t even realize Michael Clarke Duncan was in the 2001 version of planet of the apes! Still extremely devastated he is gone. He was such a legend and one of my all-time favorite actors. 😭😭😭
You couldn't recognize his voice??!
@@jacobviator3118 I watched it more than 20 years ago so no
Exactly 😊
I'm tired, boss.
Everyone’s Saturday just got better, thank you
Thanks for this new Planet of the Apes video happy Memorial Day Saturday.
The fact Rod Serling helped write the original movie’s screenplay has the famous twist ending make a whole lot more sense.
Three hours of planet of the apes content, let’s go
This guy is actually a 🐐, the craftsmanship that goes into each video is second to none
Wow... Congrats on the accomplishment of an over 3 hr video. You were definitely getting there! I will have to watch it over time after I watched the sequels to the original. 🎉🎉
In Conquest... there were two different endings. One where the apes batter the fascist leader to death and one where Ceasar shows compassion. I actually remember seeing both versions.
Wow that's worth looking into!!
I remember that Friday night broadcast lineup on different networks of Kung-Fu at 7;00, Six Million Dollar Man at 8;00, Planet of the Apes on 9;00, and Kolcheck, Night Stalker at 10;00. I was glued to the Tv all night!
I've been really stoked on the longer form content that's branching out into some more unique series like this and the warhammer content. Been a big fan for years and its like were in a renaissance right now
This trilogy and the new one is amazing better then any new reboot or movies being made
You've always had a great channel, but your content lately has hit a new level of excellence.
You are far too kind. Cheers mate 🥃
@@filmcomicsexplained Do you plan to cover a lot of movie/series sagas or just some primary ones with added installments coming out this year??
Captain Taylor: YOU MANIACS, YOU BLEW IT UP!
DAMN YOU!
DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!
And then the world blows up.
Congratulations on 1 million subscribers!
broooo this was so good, man
this is legit the best thing I've seen on yt since I can't even remember when
This is pretty cool tbh, so the newest movie is like what 40 years later from the closest movie we saw, crazy how humans went from the highest animal to the lowest. Wish we had a TV show of the planet apes tbh, I loved how they are bringing back old movies
300 years
1 million subscribers, just noticed! Congratulations man, got a great channel
im so glad yall make long essay videos, theyre so much fun to learn from
Small mistake----at 2:22, you show a pic of Gregory Peck, not Charlton Heston.
if there was a "love it" button, it would be pressed. Ty for your time and content!
I finished watching Kingdom last week. Honestly it's a breathtaking piece of cinema, from the motion capture to the quality is incredible.
Thanks for this. Sunday morning binge :)
General Ursus was a hoot. Beneath... is worth watching just for him
I love your videos and Planet of the Apes. Fantastic mix
I like how only a third of this video is just the old movies
👍🏽 much appreciated, perfect example of adequate indepth reviewing
Much appreciated!
Video was absolutely fire. It definitely shines on Batman’s ability to adapt. It kinda never gets old. But I’ll never get tired of it 🤞🏾
It wasn't until I watched this video that I realized the crucified apes in War are a direct reference to the "Scareapes" in the 1968 original
Yes, there were numerous references to the original in this film. The human doll which said mama was one too.
WHAT A WONDERFUL DAYYYY 🗣️🗣️🔊🔊🔥🔥
The first movie was made so great tbh, crazy how half the planet was banned so the apes couldn’t go there
Nice to see you got that 1 million followers congrats
The new Planet of the Apes series of movies have been great.
Proof that Hollywood is still capable of making genuinely good films when they put storytelling first and messaging second.
Your content been improving more and more
Please do Kingdom! I was in awe during the whole movie and Im sure you have a more eloquent way of describing how the story unfolds
God damn I don't think I've ever seen a trilogy that's kept it's tone consistently
Can you do Eclipso,The Spectre,Darkseid,New and Greek Gods,Perpetua,Amazo,Lobo,Brainiac,Superboy-Prime,Source Wall,Belle Reeve,Sciencell,Stryker's Island,Phantom Zone,Alcatraz,Mister Mxyzptlk,Enchantress,Solomon Grundy,Martian Manhunter,Mother Box,Red Son,Mastermen,Flashpoint,Prime and New Earth Universes from DC,Citra,Hoyt and Liza from Far cry and Azkaban from Harry potter
Jesus christ
Anything else? Lol.
@@Nathan-ew5hv Probably still typing 😂
But oddly not John Carter.... 😂
@@RealBradMiller JCoM could have been a solid franchise if it hadnt completely bombed... i really wish we had gotten more movies..
Can’t wait for the next two films
Rakka didn't say "apes togheter strong" he said just "togheter strong" such is the admiration he has for Mae and humans.
The original was a great film. It was social, religious, political commentary. The new ones are good but not as good.
Damn im gonna have to set aside a day for this vid when I have a wifi connection.
Can you make videos on the shows Defiance and Falling Skies? I love those shows and would be a good video to watch with your research and narration.
At least tim burton tried i will always appreciate it
Insanely well made!
fun fact on ECHO name towards the humans... in war of the planet of the apes, if u watch with credits, after the gun shot, the credits or subtitles say ECHO.
That was Ricardo's real chest in the the Wrath of Khann! Do your push ups!
Thanks for the memorials day gift.
At 2:22, that photo is of Gregory Peck not Charleston Heston.
Steve zahn's monkey character cracks me up LMAO 🤣🤣!!!!!!!
2:18 am i the only person to notice, that was not charlton heston, the picture was of gregory peck.
Strictly waiting for your breakdowns and reviews
4000 years, vary "19, seventy"...
I have always loved the original movies. And with the last one finishing several centuries short of when thr first started, I always took the series as a closed paradox. Taylor has to go to the future in order for the Apes to take over, and something happens between the scene with the law giver and when Taylor arrives thdt causes Apes to turn on humans
One thing I love about these films is each one brings something new to this long-running & ever changing franchise every time I watch them.
Dr Zaius Dr Zaius, Dr Zaius Dr Zaius, Dr Zaius Dr Zaius, Oooh Dr Zaius!
"he can talk!, he can talk! I CAN SIIIINNNNNGGGG!!!!" i still sing this to myself when I'm pootling about the house 😂
Just a note. Malcolm and Ellie are partners. Alexander is Malcolm's son, the mother has passed. Ellie lost her family to the virus.
I can’t help but wonder what Rod Serling would’ve thought of this retelling of the Planet of the Apes movies.
The guy in background of 2:03 even looks like a really young Andy Serkis
This is absolutely awesome Niyat! You must of spent weeks to get this written and completed. Thank you for your time and effort for your viewers 🫶
I’ve only seen the trilogy and kingdom but the original seems so good aswell
When you think about Caesars family tree is a grandfather's paradox, his family line leads into Cornelius who goes back in time to have his son, who lives up into the future for his family line to have his father
"Lost In Space" Just makes me think of the astronauts in the original movies, or the one with Wahlberg. Which a nice easter egg.
36:17
I had absolutely forgotten this one.
I like the 2001 version! Definitely gets unnecessary hate! I don’t understand how that ending is so controversial, they literally were setting up for a sequel!
“Hey, guys. Niyat here from Freaky Comics Explained, and today we are exploring each other’s bodies.” - Niyat if he was freaky 👅
Thank you
Fun fact . Charlton Heston had a bad cold and laryngitis that day when he had to shout "Get your hands off me..." but it worked out well as in the movie he had a throat wound and lost his voice for a while..
I dunno if anyone would agree, but I think it would go HARD if they did a movie in the future where apes have completely taken over the planet, and the time travelers from the original movie blast through the atmosphere.
That was Gregory Peck. I guess I’ll wait and see if his pic showing up gets explained.
Hi Film, your my favorite Spoiler. 👍
Can you make a video on Devilman from Devilman
For Halo fans:
I image this is what Jiralhanea society would've looked like post First-imolation.
Its one timeline. Hesslines theory bridges all of them in escape from poa. Its all the same story, all 11 films.
I haven’t seen a single movie in this franchise, but I’ll be damned if I pass up a 3 hour lord video on any topic
"The doomsday bomb, what a wonderful memento from the 20th century. They weren't satisfied building a bomb that could destroy a city, no, they finally made one with a cobalt casing."
I hate when people dump on Maximus. Considering where he came from he has a deep well of kindness and optimism. Lucy recognizes him as a good person and falls in love with him because of it.
Why did you show Gregory Peck when you said Charlton Heston
Can’t believe I’m this late 😢
3:25 so they go to a planet that’s already habitable by humans to find out it’s already nuked or just how the planet was already
It's Earth. Nuclear war happened while the astronauts were in space.
I would love a series of books set in this world
Wait, wait... you show a picture of Gregory Peck when you mention Charlton Heston. @2:22
3 hours 😂😂😂😂😂😂 crazy but awesome
Please look at The Ancient Enemy from The Phantoms.
Conquest is the perfect metaphor for things that are seen in reality. How victims of bigotry become bigots themselves justifying their own racism or sexism by the fact that they experienced it instead of realising that they are just as bad as what they hated
34:18 was that John Huston?
3 hours? Bruh 😂
How did Dr. Milo repair a spacecraft that was totally destroyed? And how was he knowledgeable on that technology? And wow...three intact spacesuits were also salvaged.
2:20 You said Charleston Heston but showed Gregory Peck.
Which of tese movies would you people say is the best?
2:22 not Charlton Heston everything else is fire as usual
Imagine a plague that killed all the cats and dogs 😭😭
one question about tim burtons planet of the apes is, if the apes are a descended from apes from the space station(they had only chimpanzees, no orgaunatans or gorillas) where did they get horses?
Dawn came out in 2014 which is before Ant-man ever came out, let alone Quantiumania. If you are going to compare the franchises, how about keeping in the same bleeding time frame of when the movie came out…..though, I guess the comparison doesn’t have the same zing if kept in the years it came out, huh?
Why only Planet of the Apes? Why not the whole series down to Battle for the Planet with the Apes? 🤔
I'd watch a long vid on that. 🤗
What do you mean? This is about the whole series?
Well this is a Pleasant Surprise
I am in the minority, but I really liked the Tim Burton one.
Did you actually watch Escape? It's Zira who swaps out the baby's not Armando.
Escape was always the film requiring the biggest suspension of disbelief, how exactly did Milo know where Taylor's craft had sunk? How did he drag it up from the water? How did he repair a waterlogged complex spaceship, with tech far beyond that which was available to the apes? Fuel? Launchpad? And all this in the time between PotA and Beneath, biggest plothole ever
