- Hey guys what’s happening? Niyat here with film comics explained and as voted for by everyone in the latest poll, today we’ll be exploring Legion, the 2010 supernatural horror directed by Scott Stewart.
Starring Paul Bettany, Lucas Black, Tyrese Gibson, Adrianne Palicki, Kate Walsh, and Dennis Quaid, it follows an unfortunate group that must overcome the Apocalypse.

That can make sense from a religious or secular perspective, perhaps god just doesn't believe in YOU, the other way around!
Actual the bible says that the next time you see angels they wont look nice but horrific creatures. Basically the end of the world
I love how this movie puts a little twist on “dark supernatural beings coming to kill humanity.” Typically it’s Satan or Demons or other dark forces leading the charge but in this movie it’s an obscenely angry God and his Angels.
It's fascinating that god isn't truly angry with humanity, but his other creations, his heavenly host. When they prove almost all of them will follow any order, even massacring his chosen children, they disgust him.

@@lordflako5324 yo, you’ve never been mad at your kid or your pet for something? God in this film isn’t infallible, which is why Michael had to give Him what He needed, NOT what He wanted in that moment. Successful parenting sometimes requires you to have someone with an outside perspective calling you out on your shit before you do something you regret to the ones you love in a moment of anger.

Legion is such an underrated action/horror film. I consider it a cult classic along the lines of Dredd where both movies deserved so much better and felt ahead of their time in many ways.
Ehhhhhhh. Dredd is great.
This was...something. The idea that humans could even hold a candle to angelic forces is laughable. They're practically elemental destruction - fragments of God's will - they're powerful enough to fully redefine the space around them. Looking at them, touching them, and probably thinking too hard about them while they're present will either drive you to insanity or fully detach your soul from this plane.
They can't be physically interacted with unless they restrain themselves.
In actual combat, they wouldn't even be comprehended; probably not even perceived.
The metaphorical line at the gate of heaven would just get very very long at a hilarious rate.
Just saw the movie and completely agree. Very under appreciated. Paul Bettany is such an incredible actor. He was bad ass as the archangel Michael.

This movie was one of the most memorable films for me growing up. There’s just something extremely cool that I find with the entire setting of the whole story.
This would be interesting to see in a mid budget tv show (enough for the practical and require CGI, but not so much that we get well...disney garbage). This movie has a lot it hits on that just doesn't lend well to a single 2 hour movie window.

There is actually a tv show named legion that follow(kinda) the same story and happens in an acopalyptic futur.
The old lady scene terrified the shit out of me when I was younger, still holds up for sure. Love the vids and keep up the great content

When I was a kid the scene of the icecream man completly freak me out. The elongated arms and mouth combined with the scream and the way it ran...
It was Kyle's kid to me.
It was both creepy and heartbreaking at the same time.

@@agust8352 I think that is what is implied, yes. Keep in mind the police officer who is possessed early on is under the influence of an Angel and has a similar physical manifestation of the possession.
My favorite scene in the movie was the fight between Michael and Gabriel. More importantly how Gabriel wasn’t evil at all, but just blindly following God. He would do that if it meant killing his brother. You can even see him tear up after he stabbed him. Gabriel learns his lesson after Michael returns and tells him that while Gabriel was doing by God’s word, it was Michael who was doing by God’s spirit.
He kinda was though. Killing a child is evil and under no circumstance is it justified. God gave him a test and he failed it miserably.

At Sodom and Gomorrah children weren't spared.
Also there was that time in the book of Enoch where God ordered all the human/angel hybrids killed, so they were half human and some were infants... Though while a fascinating read almost no one counts the book of Enoch as a canonical biblical text. For reasons that should be obvious for anyone who reads it, it reads more like biblical fanfiction then the word of God.
Elderly being posesed, one of the creepiest concepts out there. Between that scene from this film and the one in "Devil" still haunts me.
Devil scared the fuck outta me. I watched that shit when I was 10 and loved malevolent/biblical horror ever since.

The idea of Angels destroying Mankind is actually horrifying.
Yeah the very things that are supposed to help save our souls with love have now turned their back on us. Not only that, but without even blinking an eye, they have started to wipe humanity out in the most horrific way possible.

My buddy’s and I were deployed when this one dropped. Of the several movies that deserved a sequel from this time frame, this and Ninja Assassin deserved some kind of sequels!

When I watched this as a child, I couldn't understand why the humans possessed bu angels looked corrupted and scary as if possessed by demons; then I found some artistic depictions of what angels looked like according to how they were described in the bible and they weren't actually beautiful androgynous-looking humans with wings, but monster-looking stuff of nightmares, so it started to make sense why humans possessed by angels looked terrifying in this movie
Those terrifying angels are the ones that actually protects God and they're high ranking angels but maybe im wrong also cute dog in your PFP bro
There are different types of angles. Watchers archangels and lesser angels etc. the only ones we hear of in the Bible are the ones that show up in “a fair form” as to not terrify the human they show themselves to but outside of that they’re basically beyond our comprehension so that makes them naturally terrifying by default
Keep in mind that angels don't have a physical form until they come here. They, like God, exist outside of space and time. When presented to people, they opt for something that won't terrify us. By rights, they can manifest as anything.....real or not.
And dont forget how satan is actually a perfect being, perfect looks, physique and everything, he is very appealing and flawless. Satang would never appear repulsive or evil, if he that way he wouldnt be able to drag people to his side, he is the great deceiver and his lives by that title, thats why temptations in life are often irresistible, because they are so good to refused
Paul Bettany has been a naked poet/writer, an android, a talking AI, a warrior priest, an archangel, an unnamed gangster...he could almost do any role justice.

They released a TV series called DOMINION, taking place 25 years after the events of the movie where angels and humans wage a war between themselves and only a chosen one could end the war.
This sounds pretty awesome Shaine! Will have to check it out :)
Shame it only got 2 seasons. I somehow sense that season 3 would've introduced an epic Satan.
I only learned about this series after it was canceled, I wish I could have seen it because I really liked the movie Legion.
I remember seeing a couple of episodes o SciFi.
The show finally introduced Lucifer, in what sadly became the last scene of the series...
So much potential in movies like these. They always have an amazing idea, out of the box thinking and far too many don’t get the attention they deserve and need in order to continue on.
This is one of those movies that is underrated, great stand-alone movie, but needs to have a sequel. It's a hidden Gem with a great premise. It's one of the movies that if it's on I watch it.
I'd try to tie it to Priest (2011).

They had a TV show as a continuance but it didn't last long and wasn't allowed to finish the story.

It should be noted that Genesis 8:21 can be interpreted as God only promising to not destroy the world through the use of specifically a flood. "neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done." (KJV). Which means other methods of humanity being destroyed are on the table, such as Paul Bettany coming down from heaven and wielding a bunch of cool guns.

The only issue I have with stories like this one is that they ignore the way God promised to end the world. Rescue the faithful, then after a time burn the world. It also ignores Jesus, his sacrifice, and his relationship with humanty. I know it's a movie, it just rubs me the wrong way.
An interesting way to do this would have been to imply that God had already come for the faithful, but there were so few that nobody noticed their absence, and that this was the end God said would happen. But theology always goes up in smoke when it's written by nonbelievers. Again, it's just a movie, and an OK one at that. I just want some logical consistency.

The Bible is so vague so often that it can lead to so much interesting fanfiction. I love it!
The movie took me for a loop once Michael revealed that those were angels possessing humans and turning them against the diner group.
This was hands down my favorite depiction of angels on the big screen that I had ever seen

Also in the lore of Legion, in the continued series Dominion it wasn't a flood that wiped out mankind but a group of angels led by a blood thirsty Michael who was stopped by his brother and sister Gabriel and Uriel.
Michael literally arch within this movie is the definition of his character. The individual so loyal that when the leader strays away he holds him to his prior level regardless if that means he’s now going against who he once “belonged.” The phrase is “for your own good”
This and Constantine are my favorite supernatural “horror” movies. Great video

The tv spinoff was insane to me. It was good, and could have used a couple more seasons to expand, but followed through with the baby, as an adult dealing with angels still trying to destroy mankind.

Imagine Gabiel and Michael in their FULL Angel Combat Forms vs. Gabiel and Lucifer from the Constantine 2005 film, interesting Fight/Battle. Also, I wonder what this films version of Lucifer and Valek was doing while God was sending his Angels to kill Mankind, interesting concept!
I would say Luci was chilling with a bowl of popcorn watching the festivities, but he was probably very busy seeing as millions of souls were being sent his way quicker than Amazon Prime deliveries. That's a lot of accommodations to make on very short notice.
Michael and Gabriel in the battle form was awesome. The wings and armor was badass. Probably my favorite part of the whole movie.
The ice cream man freaked me out. Very well done. Best part of the movie IMO.

I just finished watching all of them, and really thought the fact that Tobi is a crucial plot point in all of the movies, and a really sinister force that would make for a great FCE video since he connects all the movies together :) Love ALL your work! Okay so God did call back the angels, that was the part that always confused me bc it's never explicitly said in the movie that God cancelled the apocalypse so I always wondered what was up with the ending.

My interpretation of the story is that God never actually wanted to wipe out humanity, it was all a test. All the angels failed the test, except Michael, who understood that this extermination directly contradicted everything he knew about God
Dennis Quaid, Adrienne Palicki, Charles S. Dutton, Tyrese Gibson, Paul Bettany, Jon Tenney, Lucas Black, Kate Walsh and Kevin Durand star in this fantasy action horror film.
Please don't forget the outstanding Doug Jones. Even if his scene is very short, he made the thumbnail. 😁
This movie tackles the idea that Jesus’ crucifixion was pointless.
I feel like this movie had so much potential. And some really cool/creepy parts. The Archangel with metal wings and spinning mace was really dope. The demon kid was creepy as hell. Paul Bettany is great always.
The biggest disappointment was the ice cream man “boss fight” was literally ended with a short burst from an M4…. I guess it’s cool that even angel/demon possessed humans can get clapped by a three shot burst.
The way you ended it. Made me want a part 2 of the movie. Great video.

While Grandma is a scary part of the movie, the Ice Cream Man is what gave me nightmares, lol.
I remember seeing this movie all the time on dish and I loved that it was actually super eerie. Priest was another paul bettany movie that I watched so many times.
This story is actually good use of when a creator is good or evil wants to get rid of something that he created, instead of destroying it themselves they send their army to do it for them because it somewhat to not carry a form of guilt to their shoulders
God doesn’t have guilt. He doesn’t make mistakes. He is eternally perfect. He has no fault. A perfect being that knows all knew all this would happen. That’s why it’s a test. The Angels, like ourselves have free will. They’re not slaves. They serve the Lord because they WANT to. They love Him about all else. That’s why The situation with Michael saying He knows His heart because God created his heart hits deep.

One of the best movies I know. A Psychological Thriller more than a horror movie. Excellent cast of well known actors all of whom are on a roller coaster of woe and terror.

The thing is Lucifer is happy where he is. As John Milton put it in Paradise Lost, Satan would simply say - “Better to reign in hell than serve in heaven”

I definitely loved the costumes for Michael and Gabriel in this movie. As a kid I always imagined that’s what angels would look like.
I always thought that angels would be made out of intense fire, like staring at the sun until your vision gets after-images - except it's your mind.

They’re was a tv show on Syfy
There was a series called "Dominion" in 2014 which took place 20 years after the story of this movie but it got cancelled after 1 or 2 seasons. None of the surviving character's actors were in the show, but they were planning to show Lucifer Morningstar and God in future seasons if it continued.

@@alexmaurice4274 Yeah they were setting up for Lucifer to be an Antagonist scheming things and possibly Gabriel working with him. They were seemingly going to include God himself to appear to aid Michael's quest.

That entity reminds me of the skin walker affect that can be on all fours or 2 legs.
In my imagination, an angelic possession would look more like an AI clone going rogue. An emotionless machine chasing you down. But this time, you have nowhere to hide.

Ive watched this movie about 10 times and when Michael tells Jeeb that its people like him is why he wont give up on humanity always gets me. We need more Jeebs in this world.

Cuz His mercy is from everlasting to everlasting there's no end, the problem with the world is full vain pride, selfishness, and others vanities, God will never forsake a child(person that doesn't really understand right or wrong) who doesn't know Him yet, God just wants you to come home to Heaven, and God takes no pleasure in seeing the wicked dying, He wants all mankind to repent and enter Heaven, that's why He sent His Son to carry all your sins and sacrifice Himself for you

Where was that everlasting mercy back in Eden? God effectively set Adam and Eve up for a self fulfilled failure scenario, especially by allowing the snake to act with impunity.
What about the time when God brutally ripped and tore away everything Jobe had in his life, just to win a bet against the Devil?
Or what about the Time God told Abraham to literally take his own son to a mountain summit and ritualistically sacrifice him in the name loyalty?
'God created humanity in their own image.' By the logic of that statement, God is the reason for our pride, greed and sin for God imposed such glaring flaws upon us.
With all that in mind, let's not forget the fact that Jesus was conceived by God LITERALLY CUCKING HIS MOTHER.

I think of Prometheus, when David asked Charlie "why do think your people made me?"..."we made you cause we could"... "can you imagine how disappointing it would be for you, to hear the same thing from your creator?"
If i ask "god" why they didnt help out during any hard times i guarantee the answer would be "cause you have all the capacity to help yourselves"

I wish Dominion hadn't been cancelled because I always wanted to know what Lucifer thought of God essentially deciding he was right all along. What demons were doing since Angels had essentially taken over their jobs, etc.

This movie is still one of my favorite “horror?” Movies just due to the idea of it. Plus Paul Bethany is a badass like always
“Now show me dem teeth” will assuredly always stick with me but when he explains to Jeep how he too had a dream of needing to move out yonder to open PF, not understanding why but understanding that’s what he had to do…it was for this moment in time.

I'd love to see you cover Brotherhood of the Wolf, it's an epic movie loosely based on The Beast of Gevaudan a legend of a monster in 18th century France. It's got pretty much everything a Monster, a Hunter, a Whore House, Secret Spies, a Government Cult, Incest oh and Kung Fu. One of my all-time favorites. Even if you don't cover it the movie would still be a good watch just for your enjoyment.

I love that youtube puts an ad right at the two scariest parts of the movie
They do that a lot. My favorite ad drops are the ones that happen during meme compilations. My brain sometimes tries to turn the ad into a meme before I realized what happened. At least commercials in the TV Era had the good sense to come at reasonable times. Ads now are so abrupt.
I remember watching it in theaters back in 2010. Was confused, but liked it. I'm surprised many don't talk about it much.
