Very nice picks Peter! For me I’d go for: International - Indri Trini Japanese - Nikka Yoichi Irish - Redbreast 15 Peated - Kilchoman Fino Unpeated - Arran 10 Bourbon - Knob Creek 12
Hi Peter, I liked your choices. Mine were slightly different. International: Winner: High Coast Berg Runner up: Hyeland 15 year (Armenia) Rye: Winner: Pikesville Runner up: Sagamore Double Oak Japanese: Winner Nikka From The Barrel Runner up N/A: Irish: Winner: Redbreast CS Runner up: Dingle Batch 3 Peated Scotch: Winner: Torabhaig Allt Gleann CS Runner up: Laphroaig Cairdeas Warehouse #1 Non-Peated Scotch: Winner:Bunnahabhain 18 Runner Up:Kingsbarn Bell Rock Bourbon: Winner: ECBP A22 Runner up: E. H. Taylor Small Batch Have a great holiday season!
Really nice list Peter. Because I just started my journey this past spring, I have not tried a whiskey in every category, and some only one. However, I will give it a go. For my international choice is Starward Nova Single Malt for Australia. My rye of the year is Milam and Greene Rye Port Finish. I have not tried any Japanese whiskey so I will switch categories to American Single Malt, which in my opinion should be an eighth category. My choice is Westward American Single Malt. My Irish of the year is Power's John's Lane. My Peated Scotch is Glenglassaugh Torfa even though it is no longer distilled. It was the only one I tried, but it is so, so good. My Non-peated Scotch is Craigellachie 13 Year. Lastly, my Bourbon of the year is Saints Alley Bourbon Port and Cognac Cask Batch 6.
My channel started off with American Single Malts. I am a big Westward and Westland fan and I thought that American Single Malts were going to be my focus in the TH-cam world as far as channel content. Within a month that idea when out the window along with my budget. Cheers and happy new year.
Thanks Peter. My whiskey of the year (so far have a couple to open brfore Jan 1st!) Is a toss up between Knappogue Castle 12 for the refill coconut glory or Springbank 10 for the sweet diesel
Just started my whiskey journey last July and my 3 fave are Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof, Hakushu 12 and Ardbeg Corryvreckan. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone, wish a great year ahead.
My Top 5 are Springbank 10, Kilchoman 100% Islay (any bottling), Larceny B523, Redbreast Lustau and last but not least, Kilkerran 16. Have a Merry Christmas Peter and a fantastic 2024.
My top picks for the year: Irish - West Cork Peat Charred Cask Japanese - Takamine 8yr Koji Fermented Bourbon - Knob Creek 9 Single Barrel Reserve Peated Scotch - Kilchoman Sanaig Unpeated Scotch - Glencadam 15 Both Peated and Unpeated Scotch - Ardnamurchan ArdnAmerican Cask Strength Tour Bottling
@whiskeyisajourney I was so surprised at how well it competes with other "bigger names" like your core Ardbeg or Laphroaig. Just lovely stuff. Looking forward to your thoughts :) Cheers!
That's a great rundown of the runnerups and winners for the whiskies of the year Peter. I would go with this in order of the video - Indri, Piggyback 6 (only a couple of ryes in my collection), Nikka Miyagikyo, Powers John's Lane, Laphroaig 10 CS, Tobermory 12, Wild Turkey RareBreed. Happy Holidays, have a great Christmas, and a Happy New Year Peter!
Indri is a popular pick for a lot of people. I need to give it a try. Maybe it will make my 2024 list. Powers John's Lane is moving up the ranks as well. If the cask strength hits the market I'm sure it will overtake RB 12 CS. Cheers!
Another great video Peter. Had the Amrut Fusion single malt for the first time last month and agree it is very good. Love all Sagamore products and the DO is always on the bar and I normally have a back up bottle for it. But the 8 year is probably my favorite then depending on my mood the Sherry or Rum cask. I also enjoy the Barrrell Seagrass but prefer Found North batches. But the rye that blew me away this year was Barrell Grey Label Seagrass 16 year old Rye. It is just phenomenal. Nikka from the barrel was just ok for me. This year I only had 3 Japanese whiskeys and none stood out. The one I liked the best was in a noodle shop in Edinburgh Scotland and no idea what the name was. I think it was a Yamazaki. I really have not had many Japanese whiskeys. Absolutely love Blue Spot. I was fortunate to pick up a few the last couple weeks at $89. Redbreast 12CS is awesome. For me Redbreast is the best whiskey line in all of whiskeydome. Surprised you didn’t pick the RB27. My Irish of the year is the 1999 Irishman 17 single cask. Just an incredible drop of whiskey. Springbank is so very hard to find. If I want it I have to order it and Hazelburn overseas. Love Port Charlotte. Octomore is my favorite but getting too pricey. Picked up another 13.1 last month. Love the 2022 Bunna 12CS. I was lucky as it was easily available in my state last year. I even bought another one last week. Went in to buy the 2023 CS and they had a 2022 left at $99 so bought that instead. I love the love for Knob Creek. This past year I finally had the KC18 and it is fantastic. Maybe not twice as good as 2 KC12 I could buy instead but still a great pour. The bourbon that hit all the right spots and just love it was the 2022 Yellowstone Limited Edition. I love Marsala cask whiskey and this blend of 7 yr , 15 yr & 16 year bourbon is awesome. The Lix Row Double Barrel was very good this year and I love the Little Book Chapter 7. Bought a backup the day after buying and trying my first one. I will be buying another to bunker.
Oh no. You are not going to be very happy with me. I just shot a Sagamore 8 year video and I did not like it very much. Although I'm not the biggest rye fan so take it easy on me in the comments when the video drops. This might shock you, but I don't like the RB27 at all. It's one of my least favorites in the lineup. The Little Book Chapter 7 and the Knob Creek 18 will be making an appearance in my allocated whiskies of the year video coming out Friday. Happy New Year. I'm looking forward to 2024 . Cheers!
Cannot disagree with Fusion. So delicious. My rye might be the Jack Daniels barrel strength or the Found North batch 003, but Sagamore DO is a great choice. My Japanese is also Yoichi! But I I can’t find many of the single malts. Irish is Redbreast 12 cask strength. My peated scotch is Octomore 14.1. Too expensive, but gorgeous. My nonpeated is either Bunna 12 cask strength (2023) or Ardnamurchan. My bourbon is… ??? Way too many fabulous to choose from.
Nice lineup! Sagamore’s are great! Blue Spot is a really nice pour! Redbreast is always good! I would love to get the OF & KC they sound great! Hard to say top pour but I’m really liking my Russell’s Rickhouse CNF, Little Book chapter 7, Jack Daniels twice barreled heritage rye, KC 18yr, and Michters 10yr rye!! Can’t choose just one:) Cheers
Saw 3 bottles of the 2022 Bunna 12 cask strength at my local store for $78 each. Bought 1, took one sip and immediately went back to get the rest. Phenomenal value.
That blend at the end had me worried for you. 😂 Great list and great parameters. We gotta do one of these and give you a shoutout. Cheers to a great year Peter and here’s to an awesome new year ahead!
I have a 2023 allocated video coming out Jan. 5th and I was thinking about doing a blend of 14 glasses, but in the end I could not bring myself to do it. Happy New Year! Looking forward to 2024.
I started my journey on the Scotch side, recently I am gravitating more towards Irish and Rye. I stil have to explore Bourbon and a Knob Creek is one I'd like to try. I wouldn't call it my whisky's of the year but The Whistler Bordeaux cask, The Smoky Scot Madeira cask, The Deacon, Templeton Rye 4y and the Teeling Stout cask impressed me the most last year, happy holidays🥃
I've had a few Whistler products and I've liked them. The Whistler Oloroso is really good for $20.00. have a great new year! Looking forward to 2024 and beyond. Cheers.
Nice wrap up Peter, looking forward to your other lists. Knob 9 is such a hitter for the price its unbelievable. And I'm sipping a Port Charlotte while I watch. My list for this year: Irish: yellow spot Unpeated Scotch: Bruchladdich islay barley 2011 Peated: talisker 10 Bourbon: New riff single barrel But honorable mentions to Calumet 16 and knob creek 18 (splurged on both to serve at my wedding after party this year and they were awesome). You've sold me on that Japanese bottle, adding it to my list. Merry Christmas brother!
FYI, Total Wines in CA did get the Bunnahabhain 12 CS last year (2022) since you mentioned you had to order them from overseas. I grabbed two bottles for ~85$ each iirc. Hoping to see the 2023 version at some point in the next few months.
Hey Peter. Luckily for me this video came up on my feed. Hadn’t heard of your channel before but just subscribed. I gather you’re in the Phoenix area? I’m a Chandler resident. Got into scotch about 7 yrs ago. I tend to only have 3 or 4 bottles on hand so haven’t tried too many this year. International: Paul John Peated. Peated: Ledaig 10. Non-peated: probably Arran 10. Not a big bourbon or rye fan but am really getting into tequila these days.
I'm up in the northwest valley. Welcome to the channel. I hope you find value in it. There are definitely days I wish I only had a few bottles. It would make things easier to figure out what to drink. That's why I decided to do the Sip It or Skip It segment on Wednesday. I downloaded the app and the next thing you know I had new video content. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Nice choices Peter. Wishing you and Family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy 2024. My top whiskeys of 2023 are in no particular order…Michter’s 10 Year Bourbon, Russell’s Reserve 13, Baker’s 13, Little Book Chapter 7, Corbin Cash 1917 Merced Rye, Jack Daniel’s 12 Year, K.LUKE batches 6 and 7, Old Carter American Whiskey batch 11, Four Gate Kelvin Sixty, Maker’s Mark BEP, EC BP A123 and Larceny B523. 🥃
Nice list Dave. K. Luke is on my list to get in 2024 along with a Baker's 13 if I can find one. Thanks for the well whishes. Merry Christmas to you as well and have a safe and enjoyable New Year! Cheers
Just blended the 1910 and 1920 in a old Russell ten year bottle letting it sit for awhile but the glass I poured is really good. Added a bit of WT 101 to the bottle which certainly doesn’t hurt. And I’m fine with that pick for bourbon of the year I like the single 9 over the 12 but it’s a proof thing. Knob Creek is one of my favorites period. Not a peat guy so I’d remove the peat whisky I’d say if you got rid of the peat it would be better. Hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Enjoy!!
I picked up the Knob Creek 9 SB because of your review and recommendation and I can safely say it's my favorite Bourbon of the year as well. Appreciate your content and I wish you well this holiday! Cheers
Fantastic choices Peter. I was wondering what your rye whiskey of the year was going to be. I have a bottle of the Sagamore Double Oak and it's amazing. You must try the Sagamore Spirit BiB. It's another winner. Best wishes for a wonderful Christmas and a healthy New Year. 🥃
Thank you lorenz! It's been a fantastic year on the channel. I appreciate all the support. I am looking forward to 2024 and trying some more rye whiskey! I do have 2 on my list of allocated whiskies of 2023 coming out Jan. 5th. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a safe happy New Year!
I only sip on bourbon so my whiskey of the year has to be Russell's Reserve Camp Nelson F. My runner up is Jack Daniels LE release. They are so good that after finding both at MSRP I went on secondary and bought a backup of both.
A lot of people love the RR Camp Nelson F. There have been so many good bottles to choose from this year. I hope 2024 is just as good. Cheers! Happy New Year!
Redbreast 12 cask strength, all day long, the only Irish that comes close in that price bracket (20% cheaper) is Jameson black barrel proof, 'getting very scarce here in Ireland, if you see it buy it you won't be disappointed .
Knob Reserve remains the best shelfer of all time. It’s too good. I actually have found it a lot more consistent over time BECAUSE it’s a single barrel. A lot of blended/batched bourbons have been proven to have gotten worse over the years, but Knob Single Reserve has been very consistent since I have been drinking it over the past 15 some years since there are no blending variabilities to worry about.
Since I refuse to buy anything over $100 USD (call me cheap), Glenturret 12 ($70) was the best Scotch I had in 2023. 46%, non-chill filtered and natural color - not my requirements but just letting you know. Even the Bottle design is Stunning like Hibiki.
I'm feeling grateful for all the support. 2023 was so much fun. Tasted a lot of really good whisk(e)y. Shot a lot of videos and had a fantastic time doing it. On to 2024! I like what you're doing as well. Keep up the good work Wade and watch out for those one night slappers. Cheers!
Interesting selection - I will have to seek out the Amrut Fusion. As for me, the Old Forester Single Barrel is my top bourbon with Knob Creek coming in at a very close second. My other favorites of the year are Westward Cask Strength - American Single Malt, Barrell Seagrass - Rye, and Nikka Coffey Malt - Japanese. ...and I will NOT be making a Frankenblend of those😜 Cheers and Happy New Year!
The Westward Cask Strength is very good. I have it in my blind sample pool going up against a high proof scotch. It will be interesting to see how it fairs. Cheers and Happy New Year!
Love this list! Gives me plenty of fantastic things to keep an eye out for. I am mostly drinking bourbons but am excited to try some of your other favorites. Great video!
Ouch! It's probably going to be that soon here as well. It's up to $94.00. I got this bottle last year. Shows you how much prices have jumped over a short period of time.
Far better than I could have hoped for. But the anticipation, the drama, is like rolling dice. Well, for me it is. Cherry on the top of masterful reviews.
@@whiskeyisajourney interesting thing upon further looking into it, it seems that the local shops just mark the Laddie 8 as the Classic Laddie. I'll have to import a bottle of the classic and compare, always thought they were the same thing
Very nice picks Peter!
For me I’d go for:
International - Indri Trini
Japanese - Nikka Yoichi
Irish - Redbreast 15
Peated - Kilchoman Fino
Unpeated - Arran 10
Bourbon - Knob Creek 12
That is not a bad list you got there yourself! I'll drink those all day. Cheers! Happy holidays to you!
Such a nice whiskey channel. A comfort to watch.
Thanks. I'm doing what I can. Cheers!

Love Dingle! I am seeing more of them in my area. Maybe on my list next year depending on the Powers John's Lane 12 CS that should be coming out.

The 12 is hit and miss with me. There are times I think it's one of my favorite Knob Creeks and other times my worst. Very inconsistent with me.

I actually don't have any Jameson in my collection. I need to remedy that in 2024.
Nice choices! For the taste, can you tell that Classic laddie is PC10 unpeated?
Honestly I have not even tried to make that connection. Now I will the next time I have them.
Knob Reserve remains the best shelfer of all time. It’s too good. I actually have found it a lot more consistent over time BECAUSE it’s a single barrel. India 💪 Amrut fusion ❤
It's a good one
Bruichladdich don't use Islay peat, hence the unusual peat taste for an Islay whisky.
I like it! Such a good pour. Thanks for the information. Happy New Year!
Incidentally, Tobermory distillery uses Islay peat for Ledaig despite being on Mull. Happy New Year to you too.

Cheers!
Elijah Craig B.P. C923 for me
That will make an appearance in my allocated 2023 list. It's a good one. Cheers!
Would love you to do a review on Horse Soldier!
I have 3 bottles from Horse Soldier and an interesting story that goes with it. I will get to a flight in the future. Stay tuned.
It would be worth mentioning
That both Nikka from a barrel and Yoichi
Are Nikka Products
You made it sound like it’s two different distilleries
It was not my intention to make it sound like that. Happy New Year!
Red Breast 12 is the finest whiskey in the world. No doubt.
That's high praise! I'm glad you like it so much. Cheers!
Hello peter. Could you do a review of the israeli whiskey brand M&H elements single malt
I don't have a bottle of M&H to review at the moment. Although, I've heard good things about it.
Thanks! Happy hunting and if you try something let me know what you think of it. Cheers!
Man, I wish RedBreast Cask Strength was $80 here. Last bottle I got was $110
Ouch! It's probably going to be that soon here as well. It's up to $94.00. I got this bottle last year. Shows you how much prices have jumped over a short period of time.
Not big fan of Knob Creek. Russell 10 yr surprised me this year ! 2 bottles so far 👍
Nice. I have a few RR picks and they are outstanding.
This blend... before I see it... not high hopes lol.
It surprised me.
Far better than I could have hoped for. But the anticipation, the drama, is like rolling dice. Well, for me it is.
Cherry on the top of masterful reviews.
the classic laddie actually has an age statement of 8 years on the European markets
I'm grabbing my bottle and looking at it closer for an age statement. Nope. Nothing. I wonder why it's aged stated in European markets and not here?
@@whiskeyisajourney interesting thing upon further looking into it, it seems that the local shops just mark the Laddie 8 as the Classic Laddie. I'll have to import a bottle of the classic and compare, always thought they were the same thing
