Is it allowed to write a pre-existing story for the creative writing? Not one pulled from a book, but one from perhaps a game or movie if it fit what you need to write the story about? Or do the examiners check for plagiarism? I am really not good at writing short stories. I never get past the opening and write about a lot of things that don't matter.

Hi, is there any chance that you could take a look at the answer i wrote to question 5 after revising from your videos? so the question was: write a short story starting with "suddenly, I heard it. It was coming from the side of the passage.- my answer was - Suddenly, I heard it. It was coming from the other side of the passage. The approaching footstep clatters resonated through the alleyway. I knew we had made an error. I knew we had misjudged it. I thought I knew everything. The passage was an infinite tunnel. A trap. Crisp rolls of banknotes flooded from Lara's pockets as she gasped for breath. I could still hear it. That dreadful sound of gunshots cascading through the distorted streets. The sound that haunted me, like a sinister shadow in the dark creeping up on me. A guilty conscience. We can still get out of this, I told myself. Lara was only a child, vulnerable to this kind of turmoil. I was not. I should never have trusted him. It all started from that primal instinct to protect those closest to you, but it spiralled out of control. A cacophony of bulky footsteps echoed from behind us. Tap. Tap. Tap. Then in front. Tap. Tap. Tap. That was the moment. The moment I knew it was over. Lara let out an innocent shriek of terror, as she was wrestled to the ground. A single tear cascaded down her delicate skin. Her baby blue eyes gazing back at me, pleading for help. Time seemed to last forever. I let out a desperate plea. My naïve belief that someone could get us out of this. We were in too deep. A reflection of my life dawned on me. How we only got involved because of the poverty. "Just deliver a few packages and you'll never have to worry about money again, think of your family." I remember a voice telling me. It was over. Metal cuffs digging into my wrists as they dragged me away- thanks if you have read this and I'd really appreciate it if you could give me some feedback :)

My general strategy for this question is to pick the story and write about the weirdest thing I can think of to do with that title. I did that in my mock a few weeks ago and got 36/40.
If i was to write a story, how would the examiner mark it? Is it okay to include dialogues? And do we have to write a full story to get the marks? Apart from all the vocab, techniques an structural devices, what would you say we need to focus on for story telling?
-they would mark it the same, it is a very subjective question -no, as long as there is a starting point (that makes sense) and an ending point (that makes sense) it's ok, i recommend a cyclical structure (only if it makes sense ofc) -apart from that focus on the flow of your story, does it make sense, is it believable and nice to read (basically does it flow well) i hope that heps :)
@@oscars4925 Thank you! It really helps. I often find myself forgetting to include techniques as a result of rushing, trying to get my short story done.
Guys I have English language paper 1 tomorrow wish we good luck I am sooo scared for question 5 becuz I literally don’t know how to approach the question
Hi mr bruff would there be one thing you would consider doing in the language analysis questions that would immediately get you into Grade 7/8/9 territory.
omg ive only been watching the poem analysis videos so when i saw mr bruffs face at the end i almost fell off my chair i didnt expect him to have a beard XD
@@pavandeepkhurana3998 question 1-4 was about the text that we were given (something about a dinosaur) then question five we could either write a description about a photo or describe what we think the future will be like in 200 years :)
Sir if you decide to write a story but don’t get to finish will you lose marks? We only get 45 minutes and I often find it hard to finish a full detailed story in that time, like the first half is fine but the second half becomes a bit rushed. So also do you think it is better to not finish fully or to have an ending but it’s a bit more obviously rushed then the beginning?
Dear Mr Bruff, is it alright to use informal vocabulary? Do we get the same marks or less than we would if we’d used formal vocabulary? If you have already answered this question previously I do apologise, perhaps you could create a “frequently asked questions” video. Thank you
is the sample paragraph at the end worth the full 40 marks? quality over quantity but it seems a bit short to be worth so many marks, your videos help so much thank you!
No, this is just one paragraph. The closest AQA have ever come to saying how long this answer should be was in the June 2017 exam report: 'A lack of planning also resulted in unnecessarily lengthy responses, where the more a student wrote, the greater the deterioration in ideas, structure and accuracy. Many students would have benefitted from a quality rather than quantity approach: having the confidence to take time to plan, and then craft a shaped and structured response in two or three sides, with time at the end to revise and improve. This would certainly have helped those who started ambitious narratives but managed to get no further than establishing the two characters because they set out to achieve the impossible in the time given.'

@@hotsquidward6735 Thanks for the idea of an app to use, but I think I'll use Vocabulary Builder instead of Wordscapes because Wordscapes seems rather trivial than knowledge-based
Update: whoever has the same concern, Vocabulary builder is impressively useful. I'm going to use this regularly in the run up to the exams. A lot of the words could really be used for grade 9 analyses in the literature exams!
@@hyperplex1375 Thanks for that, it looks really useful
@@hyperplex1375 Don't see how it's trivial at all, the more vocab in your brain, the further you'll get , simples
these videos are so useful! i managed to get a 9 in my mocks thanks to you 💘👌
how did you get a 9 in mocks?? are you shakespeare or something lol? please tell me how you revised
Mystic - Edits so i wrote out loads of model answers and kinda learned the format examiners like. for language, i memorised descriptive paragraphs for weather and stuff but i’m mostly just quite good at the writing aspect. i’d say learn the ‘formula’ for exam questions bc it helped me loads in mocks- not sure if i’ll do as well in summer. ALSO PAST PAPERS IN TIME CONDITIONS
@@lilytaylor9720 how many questions are you expected to write for question 5 ?
Is it allowed to write a pre-existing story for the creative writing? Not one pulled from a book, but one from perhaps a game or movie if it fit what you need to write the story about? Or do the examiners check for plagiarism? I am really not good at writing short stories. I never get past the opening and write about a lot of things that don't matter.
Wow thank you so much for making these videos I feel a lot clearer on what I need to do and a lot less stressed
Great!

If only I written an effortless, articulate paragraph like that...
Hi, is there any chance that you could take a look at the answer i wrote to question 5 after revising from your videos?
so the question was: write a short story starting with "suddenly, I heard it. It was coming from the side of the passage.-
my answer was - Suddenly, I heard it.
Metal cuffs digging into my wrists as they dragged me away-
thanks if you have read this and I'd really appreciate it if you could give me some feedback :)
If I was an examiner I would give u a grade 9
Grade 9.9
Imagine if we get two narratives or two descriptions. I'm writing a story now just in case.
At the moment English is my worst subject so I hope these videos will help me. Anyone have GCSEs in my 2020.

How did you all do?
I like the way of teaching the memorize
i think it would be better to start with Q1 and go straight to Q5 and go back and do the questions with the lower marks
The 24 dislikes are probably people who didn’t revise and watched this 10 minutes before their exam and failed lol
My general strategy for this question is to pick the story and write about the weirdest thing I can think of to do with that title. I did that in my mock a few weeks ago and got 36/40.
Just remember: there isn't always a story option. There might be two describe questions to choose from.
What did u write abt?
I suggest to anyone, reading a lot of books before the exam to help you improve you’re knowledge of language .
Good luck, we’ll do fine
how do i stop from freezing and getting mind blocks in the exam?
Anybody else cramming?
the 51 dislikes were teachers who got insulted by students because students say mr bruff is better than them

How much do we have to write? Is it quality over quantity?
i am personally remembering

Sentence types
Lexical field
Metaphors and similes
Punctuation
pathetic Fallacy
Length
Openings
This is my favourite question tbh
good luck everyone... Ima fail but good luck to everyone else :)
i cant ever do these q's :(
so what are things in particular you would include in your answer?
pretending my exam isn’t in an hour
I love how I learn more about all the questions in 20 mins by a guy on TH-cam that 1 question in an hour by an English professional lol
I managed to get a 6 on my resit and I’m glad I don’t need to do this again, this whole subject gives me ptsd

How many marks would you say is a grade 4 on question 5?
Exam tomorrow hopefully i pass at least
Good luck everyone!!!
Livi Wake pls don’t fail
If i was to write a story, how would the examiner mark it? Is it okay to include dialogues? And do we have to write a full story to get the marks? Apart from all the vocab, techniques an structural devices, what would you say we need to focus on for story telling?
-they would mark it the same, it is a very subjective question
-no, as long as there is a starting point (that makes sense) and an ending point (that makes sense) it's ok, i recommend a cyclical structure (only if it makes sense ofc)
-apart from that focus on the flow of your story, does it make sense, is it believable and nice to read (basically does it flow well)
i hope that heps :)

Didn't understand a single word after 4:32 its so confusing. (Ps. English is not my first language)
Hi mr bruff would there be one thing you would consider doing in the language analysis questions that would immediately get you into Grade 7/8/9 territory.
Nope. It's too subjective...
Somebody could give you a 5, someone else could give you an 8, so...
Cramming that knowledge real quick
pls give us a descriptive
omg ive only been watching the poem analysis videos so when i saw mr bruffs face at the end i almost fell off my chair i didnt expect him to have a beard XD

@@pavandeepkhurana3998 question 1-4 was about the text that we were given (something about a dinosaur) then question five we could either write a description about a photo or describe what we think the future will be like in 200 years :)

Mr Bruff can you do a video on Pigeon English!!
I start on section B 😬
Does anyone remember Question 5 this year trying to remember what I wrote.
You had to write a story titled with 'Abandoned'
I have this exam tomorrow 😫
2 hours to exam level 1 guaranteed😱😨
Sir if you decide to write a story but don’t get to finish will you lose marks?
We only get 45 minutes and I often find it hard to finish a full detailed story in that time, like the first half is fine but the second half becomes a bit rushed.
So also do you think it is better to not finish fully or to have an ending but it’s a bit more obviously rushed then the beginning?
do the last question first then fella
i wish i could write like that 4:33
"I'm not craming I'm just revising a tad bit late so its fresh in my head" jagroop.
Dear Mr Bruff, is it alright to use informal vocabulary? Do we get the same marks or less than we would if we’d used formal vocabulary? If you have already answered this question previously I do apologise, perhaps you could create a “frequently asked questions” video. Thank you
I have lost all hope literally have 4 hours till exam

is the sample paragraph at the end worth the full 40 marks? quality over quantity but it seems a bit short to be worth so many marks, your videos help so much thank you!
This would certainly have helped those who started ambitious narratives but managed to get no further than establishing the two characters because they set out to achieve the impossible in the time given.'
i hope this works for tomorrow i am aiming for a grade 4 at least i really want to get like 38 or 40 out of 80 because im not that good in english but i really hope this helps me
I’ve recently been uploading slightly longer videos on this paper, each with full sample answers. They are in the paper 1 playlist- I’d recommend those too.
