Hey Mr Bruff! On behalf of myself and all of the other students that watch your videos, I would like to commend and really thank you for the hard work and graft you put into these videos. You really are the best English teacher on the internet ; your dedication and devotion to creating the most applicable and useful content just shows this... Your videos are so carefully condensed and planned to give us the best tips in such short 5 minute videos. For the Literature papers, I watched every poem video, whether it was 20 minutes or 45, and I made really neat conceptualized notes from your videos, and honestly can't thank you enough for spending 15 hours on each of those videos man - your videos were the only source that I used to revise English and hat was all that I needed. Let's give back to this absolute legend, and hank him. Like this video. Cheers guys, Caleb

Hello Mr Bruff, I'd just like to thank you for giving a walk through of all the questions; I haven't understood much this year since being put in higher set, and it's exams week this week. It's short and compact, but also gives us useful tips and other information I probably wouldn't have thought of. You've been a big help, thanks!
dear mr bruff; i got a grade 9 for language after watching ur vids and not having an english teacher for a month. now i have been accepted into oxford uni. i owe my career to u. lots of love, charles
4 am and I am doing a mock paper due into my teacher two weeks ago on a teams assignment. Seriously though thank you, your videos are so helpful and as much as I like my teacher you have taught me more by watching an hour of your videos than she has I'm at least 6 hours of looking at these questions
"Milk and Honey" is actually another word for the land/state of Israel/ Chosen land. Because in the Jewish Bible, G-d references to Israel as the "Land of flowing milk and honey". Something random and may interest any of you.
Kinda off topic, but... can everyone please agree it would be easier and better if they just got us to write a book report/summary of a text? They could also include the need for quotations and terminology, but in one question, about the whole text. It could even include some aspects of Q3 and you’ll have to mention structure. Learning about how to do paper 1 has slightly put me off reading.
PLEASE HELP What terminology are these quotes? Macbeth: “Is this a dagger i see before me” “If chance will have me king” Banquo: “Speak, then, to me” “The instrument of darkness” “Neither beg nor fear your favours nor your hate” “Oftentimes to win us our harm” “Betray with deepest consequences”
'The instrument of darkness' is a metaphor which foreshadows Macbeth's fate as 'instrument' describes the happiness he feels when he does awful things but that will soon turn to 'darkness' which we do see later on.
The dagger quote is a rhetorical question that shows Macbeths inner conflict and his troubled mind as he decides whether killing Duncan will be rewarding
The dagger, which is a vision, can be argued that it is conjured by the supernatural, drawing macbeth towards it, as he has been seen throughout the play being susceptible towards witches and Lady Macbeth. The dagger, which represents the act of Duncan, shows the power the supernatural has over Macbeths mind. (CONTRASTING VIEW) It could just be his own mind, and therefore the dagger vision projects his growing madness, seen even worse later (Banquos Ghost at the banquet etc.)
Could somebody please tell me how to improve this and/or what sort of marks this would get? Obviously, this is not my full answer and is from the June 2017 paper- statement was basically 'the red-haired girl has many advantages in life, and I think Rosabel is right to be angry.’ I agree that Rosabel is in some ways right to be angry in the second part of the source, but I think much of her anger is misdirected and should instead be at the unfairness of her society rather than the red-haired girl. The extract begins with the girl being described as having ‘beautiful red hair’ and eyes the same colour as the ‘green ribbon shot with gold’, with the positive adjectives communicating to the reader that the girl is attractive and unusual. The writer juxtaposes Rosabel to her, with Rosabel’s ‘brown hair’ being very common and an utter contrast to the red-haired girl. Throughout the extract, Rosabel focuses on her hair colour, implying that she is envious of the girl and her beauty. This perhaps is where much of Rosabel’s anger comes from; she is frustrated and jealous that she was not born with the same advantages of the red-haired girl. Thank you!! :)
If I were to present a balanced view, would it be acceptable to write 2 paragraphs in agreement and disagreement and then come to a neutral conclusion by stating that the two sides are shown in equal strength?
if really confused because my english teacher told me that you cant start your paragraph with 'i agree/ i dont agree' and that it must be written in third person, but Mr Bruff wrote in first person. So what is the correct way to answer this question?
The question literally expresses “To what extent do YOU agree?” so I would write in 1st person tense if I were you, I think the teacher must have been referring to paper 2

Anyone else think literature should be an option?
Kinda off topic, but... can everyone please agree it would be easier and better if they just got us to write a book report/summary of a text? They could also include the need for quotations and terminology, but in one question, about the whole text. It could even include some aspects of Q3 and you’ll have to mention structure. Learning about how to do paper 1 has slightly put me off reading.
Not me trying to cram this in 2 hrs before my exam 💀💀

help we have 30 minutes over here
PLEASE HELP
What terminology are these quotes?
Macbeth:
“Is this a dagger i see before me”
“If chance will have me king”
Banquo:
“Speak,then, to me”
“The instrument of darkness”
“Neither beg nor fear your favours nor your hate”
“Oftentimes to win us our harm”
“Betray with deepest consequences”

Millie Jenkinson i had one ...i hope it went well lol
It did thnx. Well u think it did but I don’t really know I am kinda bad at this
Millie Jenkinson what did you get ?
Millie Jenkinson did mine, got 5
I did my language mocks in March, got a 9 for paper 1 and a 6 for paper 2, grade 7 overall :/
if really confused because my english teacher told me that you cant start your paragraph with 'i agree/ i dont agree' and that it must be written in third person, but Mr Bruff wrote in first person. So what is the correct way to answer this question?
The question literally expresses “To what extent do YOU agree?” so I would write in 1st person tense if I were you, I think the teacher must have been referring to paper 2
Bro my English exam is tomorrow and I'm desperately studying
Best of luck everyone!
This so useful. Thank you Mr. Bruff!
Do you need a conclusion for this question?
Anyone got this paper tomorrow??
so by having a balanced view are you able to say you agree and also disagree with what the writer and reader says?
