Let me tell ya, I have a blue Dinky Minion and I absolutely LOVE playing that guitar! When I was working over the road it went with me everywhere I went, and I played the heck out of it. It has an awesome sound, and coupled with a VOX Metal headphone amp I would play for a couple hours every day. They may look like a kids toy, but they seriously rock! The only thing it lacks is a double locking tremolo! I know for a fact that the minions are serious rockers and the scaled down fretboard actually fits my small hands better! If anyone is thinking about it, don’t let the size fool you. The size of its SOUND is HUGE! It’s not being dolled up on here folks. They really do sound this good! Great video Sir Richard! Keep rockin’! And nice to meet Mini Vincent😂! You just invented a new character you know!
I love these deals you find. I have already recommended this to a couple friends for them, or for a bada$$ Christmas present for their kids that shreds!
Yes, that color looks straight out of the 80's. Looks the same as my Kramer from back in the day. Nice looking guitar for a great price. Thanks for the video!
If I would have had my eyes closed when your video started, I could have been fooled that really was Vinnie. Nice shred. Vinnie Vincent Invasion one of my all time sleeper bands. I love everything about that guitar... except the V. I've always had problem with that shape, but still love the way it looks. But the overall look is awesome. Love the black inlays. The pickups have a pretty good tone. Just love it.
I m Steph from Paris France, the last time I was bold I wanted to make my own Glarry, got the udea from the world famous shred machine Metaldude, but it was to complicated...so finally I settled for a V guitar, and there is a few guys on youtube showing this guitar, but they left me cold...and again, the bald shredder on the contrary makes me definately choose this model in pink, thank you !!! But I wont change my hair ;)
Great video! It’s totally possible to make one of the mini’s playable! I took a mini Harley Benton Strat that I bought my grandson and do a full setup on it including dressing and leveling the frets, fret polish, neck adjustment, filed the nut, action adjustment, intonation and strings. It plays killer!
7 years ago I was in the US, I walked into a guitar center in San Diego and I see this Chinese Jackson Dinky. 259 bucks! I was like: “this must suck for that price!” I plugged it in and I was like… “what?? How is this even possible?! It sounds fucking awesome! And it even feels good!” I’m like shall I buy it? It’s hassle flying it back home… So I decided not to, a few days passed and it’s some holiday and the price dropped to 199 bucks and I was like: “okay now I’ll take it. Even if it lasts for a year it’s good fun!”
I have the green version, I wanted the pink but couldn't find one! :D I replaced the cheap plastic nut with a Graph Tech, Guyker locking tuners, fitted some 11's... And it's a surprisingly great guitar!
Those Jackson pickups are pretty good really. Only stock pickups that i have liked ever. just use volume knob and those do many styles. I have JS22 Dinky and it's awesome for that cheap guitar.
My cousin has one of these in white, it was his first “shredder” guitars and man was it a fun little thing. It is sitting abandoned at his house since he doesn’t like the short scale anymore compared to his 7 string baritone.
Very thorough review and evaluation. Well done! Nice touch with the humor at the beginning. I think that miniature guitars are under-rated. I own several but I don't own any Jacksons. What kind of case would you use for that one?
can I ask you what amp or modeling software you're using for the tone in this video? I absolutely love the overdrive sound you're producing and you're a excellent player too!
That is a very cool Jackson. I would definitely get it for may daughter, but I don't think there is a LH version. I would like to see some color options. It would look great next to my JS22!
Not sure this is for me, but I get the same kind of "fun" vibe from my purple Baretta Special. That's important, especially if you're starting out or a kid learning to play, a short scale guitar will be easier to start off on and you'll want to pick it up and play it. Although this line has been out a while it seems they are quite successful.
I have A js32 RR with mahogany body and gold hardware and it's pretty awesome ! They retail $239-$399 without a floye rise ! awesome guitar and the pickups sounds really great. I'm thinking I'm going to put an alnico 2 in the humbuckers in my RR !
Great Color for Breast it pop's.. IMO Great For A Junior Player especially a New player starting out of they have a Kit guitar 🎸 like Donner etc... They would have a mini amp + other accessories included in a kit. This would maya Christmas ⛄ 🎁 gift for someone playing for 6 months to 1 year... Can't beat the price... Remember you need a case plus amp picks string's etc... Typically the kits come with online lessons included. Although IMO you can't beat Hal Leonard. Etc... Cheers 🍻 🥃 🥃 🎸 🎵 🎶 🎶 🎶
after some research I have found jackson to be the brand to purchase for the best playability of minion type guitars. most other brands play about how you would expect but the jackson plays more like you would hope it would
Got this same one, since no mention of string gauge in video tried to tune it as per usual. No go. They ship these w/ 9's, no one knows why... Switched out to a 10-52 set and tunes up pretty good but intonation is off. I was told by an expert to bring it in for a proper setup in order to not bow the neck. I will, but for now I want to play it. That's why I bought it and two sets of strings...
How's the tuning stability on this with the short scale? Given the smaller body, I think direct mounted pickups would've looked better, but I get that might drive up the price. Seems like the only way to get a fixed bridge Jackson these days, is to buy either a dirt cheap Minion, or go custom shop. Nothing inbetween 🙄 If they did a full-size version of this with a reverse matching headstock, I'd be all over it.
Kinda like the Jackson dinky another fine shredder, looks like it has those jumbo frets,no squinting your eyes to see those fret markers, been thinking about a higher end Jackson myself lately, want some mother of pearl shark inlays on a rosewood board Jackson guitar of some type, must have a floyd on board, older one floating around somewhere out there.
Buy this guitar for under $200. Make it a true Vinnie Vincent "signature " model(for the low fee of $25,000, Vinnie will sign it for you..If you provide the marker). 😂
had a minion about 6yrs now. it really isnt that bad. just give it some real pickups, 10.5-11 gauge strings, and clean up the fret work, and its completely playable for any level
Vinnie Vincent was the best guitarist that KISS ever had! No disrespect to Ace Frehley or Bruce Kulick. I like your instructional videos Richard James!!!
Since you mention it, Bruce was always my favorite. But you’re right about Vinnie. He had an edge that none of the others did. I never really thought about it until now.
Vinnie was and is a “schooled” musician and practice is important to him as well as knowing some music theory. I think Vinnie should have been more successful in my opinion.
Why I like Jackson is no matter how cheap or expensive it is, it still says Jackson on the headstock and not some other brand name.
Good point☆
is that an official signature George Lynch wig?
Of course
Yes😂
That's George Lynch wig all day! I think he wants it back.
I want one for Halloween so I can go as George Lynch
Straight off the Under Lock and Key album cover.
Nice of you to slow down one of Vinnie's solos for us to learn , great lesson lol.
Kudos to Jackson for selling a playable instrument straight out of the box. Great video B.S.
You have to put thicker strings on them to make really play great
Great review Richard! Thanks so much for producing and sharing your videos!
I love it!! Just purchased one! Can’t wait to try it out! Thanks for the review!!!

What an awesome shred session on the V, Mr. James!!
Love it, even if it's not something I'd be interested in your reviews are always entertaining as hell.

You sure do live up to your name. That was a shredalicious review.
I have a dinky js1x, that guitar is ultimate travel shred guitar. Compact but sounds awesome, has 24 frets.
Dude, you’re awesome at shredding.
Thanks!

Damn, I thought George Lynch was the guest lol! Great vid as always Richard!
Love the old school George Lynch hair.
Best minion review yet! Other reviewers have mentioned intonation problems.
Other "reviewers" are full of 💩
I'm just full of hot air.
no intonation probs, they just need the strings replaced with 11s or thicker because its 2/3 scale
I've got a couple of bellcat made jackson pickups from long ago! And some single coil bellcats they sound amazing! Thanks Shredder 🤘

@@NinjaRunningWild 😄
Dude you went off on this one 😂
Just bought one for my great niece..
WOW FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!
The pose is strong. Transition is intense.
As great guitar 🎸 thank you 🙏 😊
Totally fun Guitar. I’ve never even played a Jackson. Come to think of it, my hometown is Jackson, Tennessee. Hmmm maybe…
Never played a Jackson??? Seriously? Martin, you're missing out!

That’s a great looking guitar, Hope they Will make some of them for left handed players like me !
Vinnie approves 🔥🔥
Always wanted one of these pointy type of V's when I was ogling gobs of guitars prior to starting
What are you playing through! Thats sounds awesome...great playing
I have a guitar with a 24" scale and the only strings I had laying around were .008s. When I bend notes it's like "boing boing boing" lol.
Vinnie Vincent played this pink V guitar in the video lick it up with KISS!

_FUN_ is the name of the game in life 😎🎸

You can't buy happiness sign is funny as hell!!! 🤣🤣🤣
I like the "Don't Touch My Guitar" sign that shows a guitar being swung and taking someone's head off 🤯
@marcd1981 must be a BC Rich...
An emerald green neck-through body model (I would expect to pay more), I'd be down with it! Short scale guitars and basses can be fun!
So when are you reviewing a Ltd tiger?
When I can buy one for under $200! lol
one Fiddy Nine. Anright Dude! Im getting one

It's pink but where is the double VV wings. We got a blue burst minion at guitar center
@Jsing6946 I know but he did play a pink RR on Lick it Up
Not much on pink but it sounds great it's a keeper
there come in a bunch of colours

Do you have a tone or gear breakdown?
Yes. Search my videos.
will i be able to solo with no sense of melody or phrasing with wreckless abandon? if so i need one

if you are going new for real mother of pearl you won't find rosewood only ebony and maybe maple
Vinnie sounds suspiciously like Metal Dude.
No way! 😄
What a deal

George Lynch called he said he wants his hair back.😂😂😂
I just returned his call. He said nah, you can keep it. Sweet!

first time on your channel and I notice zero les paul style guitars? you can shred on them to you know.
He has some. They just weren't in view in this video.
Check my videos and you'll see plenty of LPs
no lp style guitars, that is a great thing
