I don't even have an ATV and I just watched this whole video! I love learning and this guy is freakin awesome. Definitely makes me not nervous to do this job myself now.
Yeah, but he left out the stuff that takes the most time; Plastics and gas tank. He also didn't check ring gaps or measure piston/ cylinder wall clearances.
A woman who can sit and watch you rebuild a motor is a good woman. A woman who can sit quietly and watch you rebuild a motor is a great woman. Never let her go.
Well explained! About to be doing this myself to my 2017 with 150 miles on it after I sunk it and turned it into a fog machine then let it sit because I have a "CAN'T AM" but ready to get it back up.
We did this on the trail 2 years ago. Buddy cracked a piston in his rubi and we couldn't pull him 20k thru the mud and up shale covered hills. We ran to Honda picked up a gasket set and ordered a niche 10-1 piston off amazon. Took us about 3 hrs to get done with limited supplies it ran better than new afterwards. Bike sat in the woods for 3 days before we had the parts together.
Question, when I put the valve cover on, it didn’t sit on there “nicely” I’m thinking one of the four studs backed it’s way out a little and is hitting the rocker.
Got a question, first off love your videos…in this video every thing was described perfectly. However after rebuild new oil and coolant…after 30 min of. Riding the atv started over heating…seems my reservoir is filling up but not returning to radiator. Water pump? Clogged return?? Not sure.
It could just be air trapped in the system. these ATVs usually bleed themselves but you can check by removing the hose on the top of the thermostat housing and see if you get any air pushed out
I would never go to all the work of rebuilding a top end without checking ring gaps and piston/cylinder wall clearance. 10 minutes checking that shit could save you hours of doing it all over again. Also, rags are good to use, not just talk about. You just about had one of those dowel pins drop in the bottom. You were damn lucky.
Thanks for all your opinions lol when you install a new OEM jug with OEM rings and an OEM piston eyeballing the rings is good enough I've done dozens way more than you I'm sure
@@MudPuppyOffroad Typical answer from Christian the arrogant prick. You really are full of yourself aren't you? Honda can have a fuck up just as easy as anybody else. Also, they don't make their rings. Somebody else does. They can be out of spec. So why not check them? Takes 10 minutes.
@@MudPuppyOffroad Yeah, if you don't count taking all the plastic off and the gas tank and the exhaust. Since you can't do a top end without removing that shit, it gets added into the total time.

This may sound like a stupid question but how do you know if you're getting low compression and is it a very noticeable loss in power and other than loss of power are there any other signs??
I torqued everything down right , why is coolant leaking out my head gasket and ig getting in the cylinder and making it smoke any idea ? Yes the coolant is getting in the oil

You could use Silicone spray on the rubber exhaust mounts when removeing and and installing.

I suspect Your engine isnt at tdc. So youre trying to open a valve by putting the cover on.
14:35 your heart had to skip a beat mine did 😂
EaZier Clutch Yep. Mine did.
Came out at the perfect time, doing first rebuild of mine Monday. Worried about the ring gap and haven’t been able to find the diagram online
Download a $5 manual It will save you a headache
Can you post a picture of the page from the manual that shows the ring installation? 🙏🏽
Or a link to a good manual?
Not really a way to post pictures on here. I do have a manual but it's a download.

If your Reservoir is filling up and not returning that usually means you need a new radiator cap but that's pretty rare on these
