  • I did a short video showing how you can replace a thermostat on a VW 2.0 TSI engine without removing the water pump or intake manifold. It is still a little putzy of a project but way easier than removing the intake manifold. I hope this helps someone. I love learning tips on youtube.

      Did you ever replace your thermostat? I got the same issue as you. My car came from Florida last year so I think the thermostat is original because they don’t use there heat as much as we do in ny

      @@tonybristol9132 well thankfully my heat works just fine still. Good luck to you up there, I can't imagine not having heat in NY. Short answer, I have not changed mine yet. I gave an attempt to this guide but I found that I may just need to pull the whole water pump out to get the thermostat. I had to remove all bolts from water pump to get some wiggle room, but still gave me a hard time. You may have better luck

    Way too many dealers just throw up their hands and say it's a head gasket when the car overheats. My dad's Toyota had overheating issues and the dealer instantly said "head gasket" when in reality the coolant was very low because we knocked a hose loose while doing the alternator. Pretty crazy.

    Question I have the same car I just started noticing the coolant light flashing yesterday. I put more coolant in and I noticed today the coolant leak in front of car when I look under hood I see it's wet on the front middle bottom of the plastic. What can that be

    • @bryanfagerstrom4664
      @bryanfagerstrom4664  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That sounds like the same area as the water pump. It could be the water pump gasket or the transmission cooler pipe which also went bad on mine. I will be posting the video from that soon as well. That was an easier fix because it was more accessible.

    My temp light came for the first time since owning the car and when I pulled over the liquid inside the reservoir was boiling like hot water on the stove, any ideas what could be causing it? The light did go away after leaving the car off for a few hours, but after a 14 minute drive the liquid was still boiling with bubbles and all.

    • @bryanfagerstrom4664
      @bryanfagerstrom4664  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check the temperature of your radiator. If its cold, than it is more than likely a bad thermostat.

    Is it possible to change fan turn on temp?

    • @bryanfagerstrom4664

    I have the same year and make, with about 85000 miles on it. It's not overheating while driving, but ever so often coolant will drain from the reservoir. What do you think is causing this?

    • @bryanfagerstrom4664
      @bryanfagerstrom4664  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would look underneath on the front side of the engine to see if there is evidence of a leak. A failed head gasket will also consume coolant.

    But which point of the thermostat goes into the housing ? I’m stuck on that point

    • @SirManlyPowers
      @SirManlyPowers 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The longer end (shaft) of the thermostat goes into the outside housing. Be careful: both shaft ends of the thermostat have a hole that they must fit into. It's quite easy to mis-install the thermostat and still be able to bolt down the cover.
