If you look carefully in the video between about 3:40 and 3:50, you can see both manifolds are marked "PA6 GF30." This means 30% glass fiber reinforced polyamide. In other words, the composition of the material is the same on old and new manifolds.
Hey there, I dont know if you're reading these still but you just saved me big time. I had a coolant leak when I was out of town. I didn't have the proper tools and couldn't seem to locate the source. It was leaking too bad to travel and it was too far to tow home so I took it to a shop with a lot of good reviews. I was told it was the water pump and it cost me a good chunk of money to get it repaired but when I got the car back it was pulling the p2015 code. Of course the car had 130,000 miles and that's only covered to 120,000. I didn't have money to fix the new problem so I had to drive around for a while with the check engine light on and suffer through rough starts among other issues and I managed to get the money to buy a new manifold. I watched your video a couple times and dug in on the repair myself. I got the old manifold out and transferred the throttle body and the other parts over and installed the new manifold. I cleared the codes and started the car and it immediately pulled the p2015 again. I started searching for other causes when I ran across this video and happened to watch it. I didn't realize there was an updated manifold. My old manifold was exactly the same as the new one so I was curious. Apparently I already had the updated version which was probably from the previous owner. So why was I having a problem? Anyway, as you were going over the differences, around 3:14 you mention that the metal nipple on the vacuum is supposed to be open. WTF? My old manifold had a little rubber traffic cone looking thing on that nipple and I had transferred it over! I ran to my car and managed to get the nipple off without taking anything else apart. I cleared the codes again, started it up and the problem is gone! I'm pretty sure that mechanic had seen the mileage on my car and stuck that on there, knowing it would pull the code and would be out of warranty. It makes me wonder if my water pump was even the original problem or if it was just a leaky hose. If you see this, thank you so much for saving me in the end. You also may want to make a video about how a dishonest mechanic can do this and maybe save more people from this issue. Thanks again.
@@eyeareels9451 No tune, just stock. See the metal nipple he is touching at 3:25? That was covered. It needs to be open because its a vent. When installed, it's on the bottom of the manifold on the right side. You may be able to see it with a small mirror or you may be able to reach under and feel it. Make sure that nipple is not covered. If it's not covered then you may need to remove the manifold and see if that tube is clogged rather than capped. If it's not that nipple then I can't help, sorry!
you and Paul are great resources for nearly all things VAG. more than just showing how it's done, you guys take the time to explain failures and common issues to great lengths so your viewers and owners can understand them; pretty sure I speak for everyone when I say that we really appreciate that time and devotion you guys offer to your viewers and communities.
We made this Intake Manifold in Mann+Hummel Germany every day. over 550 pieces in a single shift. I never know what they were for. all I remember is my fingers are swollen and in pain from installing that vacuum actuator all day 03:08
Man, since getting my Audi/VW A4, I been watching your videos religiously! Thanks for all the work you do. I am surprised you don't have anywhere near a million subscribers. I know I will be linking your videos on my Facebook for sure!
I had the pleasure of having every dash light come on at once today... 37 engine codes... Thankfully, I believe the Intake manifold will resolve almost all of them. The car still starts, but misfiring, aggressively idle, etc., no odd sounds, knocking, or ticking.
dude I've spent the last 2 months trying to figure out whats wrong with my tig and been using my 2020GLI toy as my daily, this is exactly what I've been looking for since doing a smoke test. Can't thank you enough. Liked and Subbed Brother!!!!
Charles, You always fill videos with so much information they have helped me in ways I assume you never really imagined. Thank you for the videos you have created over the years which have been so helpful even if the primary content of the videos is not what helped me in my research! Sometimes comments you make in the videos have helped me to understand something I was trying to figure-out on my own as a "thrifty VW DIY mechanic"! This one, for instance, helped me to understand that the runners hyperextend when the throttle is wide-open, go beyond their stops and create the sensor fault...a condition fixed by the new manifold design... but I used the ECS intake manifold repair kit, properly applied (thanks to one of your comments) to my intake to fix the P2015 problem I was having. I have other examples of how you have helped me... if you ever desire feedback.
Thank you so much! Been having issues on and off for a year and this allowed me to figure out that it was the actuator arm broke from the flaps creating a large vacuum leak. Having you mention the extended warranty saved me big bucks too. Thanks again!
I just threw a P2015 code today in my 2009 Audi A4. I'm going to have Audi fix it. Like you said, Audi has extended the warranty to 10 years or 120k from what I understand. I can report back. Thanks for the vids!
I appreciate you brother, I'm an ex mechanic but still dabble quite a bit. Your videos are killer!!!! Bought wife a new vw cc in 2010 and I'm on my second manifold already and only have 52k on the car... I will be pulling out the manifold to upgrade to the new manifold! Thanks to you and Paul and DAP for the info on the updated manifold!!!!! DAP and DUB on.....
I know it's been a while since you worked on the car. But I was just wondering if you would be able to help me figure out why i'm still getting trouble.Code p 2015. It's for a two thousand thirteen, volkswagen tiguan
I've just removed my intake manifold on my scirocco 2.0 tsi after following Charles video. I need to change the injectors. I'm so happy to learn I already have the new type manifold :)
Thank you. My garage kept insisting it was the sensor but I suspected it was the manifold. They told me it would be a expensive gamble to change it but having viewed your video I became convinced it was indeed the manifold. Like a new car now. Cheers.
Kyle Bauer I have a 2013 out of warranty but they extended the warranty ok the 2012 to 120k miles. Do you know if it's the same part? Vw corporate said they couldn't help me. Mine is throwing a 2015cel but not showing any signs of running incorrectly.
Just wanted to say thanks for the video. My MKV came up with the p2015 code and the dealership replaced it for free under warranty. Would have never known if it wasn’t for your video. I appreciate it. Also your video helped me switch out the pcv with little to no trouble (dropping the torx bolt into the engine bay) keep up the good work. I’m about to switch out the upper timing chain cover because now that’s leaking. 😕
I am a disabled vet so money was always tight . Me and my parents were always american car and truck buyers . It was not allowed to buy anything but american. So when I moved out for 12 years before going in the NAVY on submarines . I always bought american and since my dad was a mechanic over 20 years when I was 17 but growing up the places he worked at since it was taxi places let me help from the age of 7 . I swept floors and other things but he showed me from oil change to engine and trans replacement I seen there belair taxi with over 300k . I went in the NAVY and got sent over seas to Holy loch scotland and you could not get american cars over there and since I was a e-4 at the time the NAVY would not pay to ship my car over .But when I got sent to Kings Bay GA I got back into american. But after buying blazers and other SUV and small cars I had so many problems with the transmission on the suv s . I did all the proper maintenance , I bought a toyota camry and had it for 5 years with over 200k on it .I hate to say this but toyota makes some pretty good cars right now I have a scion xa with 120k and small easy to fix except the inner wheel bearing which was a common failure. MY family down south still complains to me about not buying american so to make them happy I bought a 1961 stripped down fairlane with a 4 banger so far 3 years no problem I have been in NY up 90 miles from NYC so salt is the main killer not my cars mechanics .
I cant wait for a metal aftermarket replacement for high pressure settings using a tune, like no lift shift and 2 step. However I am very happy that vw is addressing this!
hey, HumbleMachanic, if you want to know if the plastic is different, there should be a marking on it, European companies are usually really good about marking them. I saw in the video that the new one is PA6-GF30 meaning it is nylon that is glass filled 30%. That is the same stuff good power tools is made out of, it is very stong.
It's been 7 years, but I thought I'd toss a note out there, the vacuum solenoid has an extra vent port at the back, but it is *not* supposed to be left open. You are supposed to install a tube that terminates in a filter to prevent the solenoid from drawing in dirt and moisture and falling prematurely. The part number for this "breather hose" is 06H-133-583F. I actually came to this video hoping to find out the correct way of mounting it once installed. 😅
Brilliant help, Humble mechanic! I've recently being getting a misfire which appeared on cyclinder 3 (according to diagnostic) so replaced coil packs & put new spark plugs on. Warning has disappeared but the engine feels a bit lumpy at low revs. Thinking the inlet manifold could be the culprit. Cheers HM
I have the same problem with mine with cylinder 3. I have replaced spark plugs, genuine intake manifold and PCV valve but the engine is still very rough and the check engine light is on. Did you ever fix your problem?
so good on vdub for improving the manifold but I know ive gotten good at pulling these things off and depending on mileage performing and intake valve cleaning I could have it done in and hour and a half. easy money on warranty. 120k and its customer pay after that. ill be sad to see that go but happy to see the line is always getting better! DAS ENGINEERING!
Bumping an old video, but VW *finally* did a recall on this part. We got my wife's 2014 Tiguan fixed early last year. It failed for that stupid arm, and her car ran rough for over a year.
hey charles I just wanted to mention that there is also a breather that goes with the warranty replacement. it feeds off the manifold solenoid and mounts on top of the cam cage/valve cover.
Back in around 2010 we had the same/similar problem in the Ford shop I used to work at (in Europe) It was on the 1.8 and 2.0 gasoline engines and at first we replaced the flaps and installed stronger bushings untill Ford came with complete manifold to replace the broken ones. One time I had an engine where the rod that hols/flips the flaps was broken and one of the flaps had been "eaten" my the engine. Imagine the damage that caused to the valves!
Thank you for your videos!! It helped me a lot with my personal case! I have a 2009 Scirocco 2.0 TSI and i had the intake sensor error since last year but could only buy the intake last month, i was surprised when i got it and saw the arm was different... But when i connected the vacuum line, i connected it to the new metal one, so i still had an error and the flap was stuck all the way open. It took me a while to get it, but ended up putting the old solenoid that wasn't faulty and i finally got rid of the error... Now i only have the wastegate flap that it's making noise..... -.-"
I already put one anti rattle clip in and the noise went away, but i could still ear it slighlty (i think the clip only mutes a bit the sound of the rattle) So either it dropped at one time, wich i think that it is impossible when i think of the the trouble i had to get it in or the arm of the flap itself it's sideways like in one of your videos and in that case you know how it is.... Here in europe this engine is rare and the Scirocco's even more rare, so i'm happy that i can find all the good info in your channel! Keep up the good work mate! ;)
I'm glad I saw this video. I almost ordered the older style. Thankfully, I was able to cancel my order and order from Shopdap before it was too late. Thank you.
About god damn time!!! I have a 2010 GTI and have yes replaced my 3rd intake manifold under warranty!! How did this take so freaking long to fix!!!? These have been like this for 7 years now, I'm taking my car to VW asap to have this new one put on before my current one breaks again.
changing mine (again). 2 years ago when I changed it it was under warranty but not anymore, i bought the parts 400$ total with tax now i'll change it myself
The valve on the right side of the manifold at 1:46 in the video is hissing for me when I idle, what would cause that? I thought I needed a hose but looks like I might need something else
Used to have a 2010 Audi A5. I will never buy another Audi/VW cars ever again. That car was in the shop more than 10 times for various problems during my 4 year ownership.
FixTooth damn...my 04 Toyota has never had a mechanic lay a finger on it...at over 190,000 miles. I do the schedualed maintenance myself. Sometimes taking cars to a mechanic is the reason other problems happen.
Same here mate, I will steer away from german cars as I have had numerous problems with my low mileage gti. German cars are unreliable, especially considering how much you pay for them. So from an engineering point of view I think they're crap if they keep breaking down and continuously revise their parts which they don't get right in the first place.
But everybody has different experiences of the same brand... also the chances are there's someone out there with an '04 Toyota' that's had numerous issues as well. I've got a 2001 Golf on 135,000 miles and she runs like clockwork 7 days a week.. that's not to say they're perfect, but I don't think all VAG cars are 'crap'.
Ben Dewse far fewer owners have had problems with their 04 Toyota than have had problems with their VW. And there are an awful lot of Toyota vehicles out there.
i'm having a small fleet of 2gen(2004-2009) prius cars. All of them having more then 250k miles. Still under hood like new(one car start liking oil out of valve cover).
The car all of a sudden started sputtering as if bad gasoline and not being able to go any faster than 20 30 mph. Oh and let me say right in the middle of a busy large highway with trucks going by me a mile a minute. Then I get a EPC and engine light going on my dash. Rev up to 2 and back down and back up to 2 rpms. So, I put this octane booster Nada. Opened the hood I hear air. I checked the hoses. I sprayed some cleaner and found a spot. As I kept looking and checking for a loose hose, cracked plastic I notice the actuator popped back up as I probed and pulled. So, seems its the intake actuator. That little arm you spoke about on this video. Tomorrow, buying this intake actuator. I am being told VW does not sell it individually. So I have to buy the whole intake -.- Since I am a new owner to a 2015 VW CC 2.0 Turbo Sport what else do I need to know about this car that I should change now before it goes? My car has no warranty. Should I stick to OEM parts? It gets $$$ :( Thank you for the video because it is helped me actually confirm my findings. Not a pro like you or most guys here But I have done a little here and there. Thank you for the video and everyone here for any recommendations or advise. I have subscribed :)
We couldn't do a Adaptation for intake runner because some one installed high flow air filter in to the car and was causing slightly idle to high , so I went to the car I pressed the brake pedal and switch in to the Drive so idle can drop and Adaptation passed ! this was crazy to find out what was wrong took me weeks !!!!!!!!!!
I just installed this (BH) revision manifold in my 09 GTI. I also had to get a new fuel rail (06J-133-317-AB) because my old fuel rail(06J133317J) wouldn't line up. Bolt holes were about half a hole off. New rail fits perfectly, but I also had to change the brass fitting( old rail had male threads for fuel line, new revision had female). After all that extra headache, I still throw code p2015...☹️
If I'm needing to take my intake manifold apart to clean carbon deposits at 80k is it worth the preemptive replacement/upgrade, or let it ride until there's a problem and hope for an extended warranty replacement?
mercedes benz vehicles had a similar issue with the runner actuator would break. theres a company called all german auto that makes a billett aluminum pivot point for it instead of plastic
I love your videos. Super informative and easy to follow. I wish though that they weren't so old because idk if my questions get will get answered. Anyway, Iam not a mechanic and this VW Passat is the first car I have taken on to this extent. WiSh me LUck!
Plastic manifolds... on a force-inducted engine... I know it's been engineered and Charles himself said he can't recall ever seeing one split or crack but plastic just doesn't really give me any confidence of having a long service life.
Alexander Klein No matter what kind , it eventually gets hard dry and gets brittle and cracks. Plasticizers and other big worded chemicals outgas from it and that's it. Here's food for thought. The faa says no locking bolts containing nylon or other items like that are allowed from the firewall forward. That's more for fire protection ,but lemme use an Italian accent : itsa notta good
Yea I could not believe it myself when I heard they switched to plastic. Im still rockin my mk4 gti and absolutely love them. Currently saving for a mk3 jetta and mk2 gti. Hell eventually I plan on getting the rare bus/truck thing they made!
My 09 Audi A4 quattro (B8) just got the dreaded P2015 code. It has 118800 miles on it. I'm gonna check with my dealer if its part of the recall, but if not I'm definitely going to replace the manifold with the revised version.
@@HumbleMechanic the dealer told me it was not covered and they said I need a new manifold $1500... 🤣 What they did tell me is that my car has a recall on the water pump and the timing chain. I'm gonna seafoam the manifold and gas tank this weekend.
I purchased a new manifold and am preparing to install. It came with a notice saying it has to be "adapted" to the vehicle by performing a manifold runner flap adaptation. Any idea how to do that? It wasn't mentioned in the video. Thanks!
For those still looking at this, note that if you go from the old revision to this new one, you will also need to replace the fuel rail with a new revision as well as the bolt holes do not line up on the old fuel rail to the new manifold. So if you are replacing this yourself you'll likely be looking around $500-$800 in parts and not just the price of the intake manifold.
For anyone looking at this guy's comment, HE IS WRONG! I have an 09 GTI, which is the FIRST model of the TSI engine. I just replaced my intake manifold with this new updated one and it was a straight swap. I can kind of see how he may have thought that the rail did not align but you have to stick the top bolts of the intake manifold on first then it aligns perfectly.
Got mine replaced on my 13 Beetle Turbo Fender edition in 2020. CEL came on a few days ago and go figure p2015 again. Wondering if they swapped it out with the old version and not the revision.
Hey i have a 2013 Jetta GLI, it makes a sqealing, almost rattling pully sound on start up for about 5 seconds. After ive been driving it for a while, if i have it in manual mode it will do the same sound if i slightly rev out first and second gear...any pointers you can think of to look at replacing? Thanks
Thank you for explaining I was looking for a Tiguan 2010 runner position sensor which hose where but you said metal side was supposed to be left open is that right
anyone know what the new hose that connects to the flap valve unit is for? shop dap and ecs both sell but can't seem to find a good explanation of what its for if it just vents to atmosphere...
yall should also know that you need a new fuel rail that fits with this upgraded intake manifold. Didnt know until I couldnt fit my original fuel rail with the new upgraded intake manifold. instead of wasting more money on such thing, my dad and i just cut off the clips from the intake manifold and adjusted the original fuel rail so the screws would go in straight.
Hi the new solenoide has a vent ..you say it stays like thta. But i saw another video where they say there wil be a hose on it that goes from that vent to the valvecover ? Do you really need that or ?
Once again thanks for your videos...I'll be purchasing this from deutsche......as I made a rockie mistake I purchase one from Ebay it didn't came with the sensor I purchase the sensor ending in B" and on the CPU it read close 30% and open at 88%....and of course the check engine its there.
I am having the same issue I dont think the B at the end of the sensor makes any difference , even in the video the old sensor dont have the B at the end . how did you resolve the problem ?
What if I have vacuum going into the solenoid but wont come out the other nipple to the arm. What controls the vacuum solenoid? When cycling ignition the arm doesnt move at all. Even reved engine and no movement. P0215 only come on right after restarting car. Please help
Hi Charles, when trying to install the rail on the updated manifold the hole don"t line up, its this common? or do I have a defective updated manifold, thanks
Do you have a video of the 2010 cc 2.0t Cam sensor is throwing a P0341. I just want to know the ohms range on the Cam sensor old has .844 new has 1.902 on the positive and ground. It runs better with the old one.🤯 I have 5v on positive plug Thank you.
OK, I'm gonna weigh in against the haters, as a former hater myself, just about every car nowadays is going to have problems, because of all the technology in them, the government forcing emissions and CAFE ratings down manufacturers throats etc. I have a 2008 Ford F-150, the most common pattern failures on that generation (2004-2008) were as follows: cam phase actuators, cam phaser solenoids, timing chains, timing chain tensioners, (interference motor BTW, out time = CRUNCH on the valvetrain) 4wd vacuum solenoids, 4wd actuator hubs, radiators, blend doors/actuators/cam plates, axle seals, carrier bearings on the LWB trucks, instrument panels failing, and if you do them wrong, spark plugs breaking in the heads, and failing fuel pump control modules( mounting aluminum parts on a steel frame, where water and salt can get to it, not the best design, but there's an update with standoffs that screw into the frame, to prevent it from corroding and breaking) my truck is approaching 140k now, I've put a radiator in, 2 sets of plugs and coils (coils are junk, so bad, Ford only charges like $40 at the dealer for new ones) one LF 4wd hub, a blend door, and now it seems my instrument cluster is on the fritz, everything else has been regular maintenance honestly. Forgot the front caliper that locked up, which can happen to ANY vehicle with that kind of time on the clock. I've experienced NONE of the other failures I've mentioned. My point here is this: just because it happens on others, doesn't mean it will happen to YOURS. I started in this industry when MK4 was new, they taught me to hate this brand, but MK6 and now MK7, are making me more willing to give then a fair shake, just my 2 cents, take it for what it's worth. I will say this, VW can't keep relying on the Jetta and the GTI to keep them in business too much longer, especially now that TDI has taken a YUGE hit, German cars used to be synonymous with top quality, as a German myself, I'd like to see that make a comeback. Last, but not least, Charles, thanks for the awesome videos that have inspired me to revive what I thought was a dead-end career, and to try something new, as I'm going to an Audi dealer or two tomorrow, to try and snag my first ever dealership job as a technician.
Dude AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME stuff. Thank you for taking the time to share your insight. I really appreciate that. I agree that VW can't rest on the GTI and Jetta. I am hoping that is what the Atlas will bring. Only time will tell. Also.. YUGE HAHAHAHAH Also, I want to wish you all the best on the tech job hunt. Good luck and do great things :)
HumbleMechanic much thanks sir, keep up the awesome video. have you done a water pump replacement video on a TSI? That would be good to see, or maybe a video on how to convince your girlfriend you must have a GTI Autobahn edition for 2018?
Mine just broke, warranty extention ended like 6 months ago lol Gonna get my buddy who's a vw master tech to replace it. Under the table it's like $650 for part and install.
Because at the time of this video it was not part of the repair. That did t start for a few months after the new manifold was out. If you go to the link to buy it, Paul has that add on kit listed
Hi there, thanks for the video! I have a question I'm having trouble trying to resolve... Is the vacuum solenoid directly interchangeable for the old intake? I had the old style solenoid with the "PASS" cap and bought a replacement with the new metal nipple; have subsequently installed it. Just wanted to know if this would cause any issues?
Hi just replacing it now and have a question The new type arm actuating solinoid you say to vent the silver outlet to atmosphere but I see there is a new air filter line that needs to be installed . Is this the case ? New Genuine OEM VW Audi Intake Manifold Fresh Air Hose (2008-2010) 06H133583F
Mine threw the code for this issue at 119,283 and I cleared it not knowing that it was so common. Crossing my fingers it happens again before I hit 120k which will be very soon...
@HumbleMechanic I had two CEL codes P2008 & P2015, I finally broke down and purchased the whole intake manifold assemby from shopdap. My 2010 A3 2.0L now has it's performance returned, and the P2015 is gone, the P2008 continuously returns immediately after clearing, and has a irregular idle. Any recommendations for troubleshooting? P2008 is such a generic CEL for this car/engine. Thanks in advance for any direction!
now as I think deeper on your question, if this is not a US car, it may be the same manifold. The US 1.8TSI was a different manifold. ROW might be the same.
My 2016 Tiguan R-Line popped the P2015 code just now at 138K miles. First ever code on this most reliable car. I bought the ECS quick fix coupler and will drop it in until I buy a new manifold and have time for the swap. QUESTION: Is it advisable to service injectors when replacing manifold? Great vids. Cheers!
Hi there.......I have an Octavia 5 1.8 tsi 2008 model with BZB motor...........My manifold needs change and i am seeking of a new revision and updated..... Does this fit to my car or it is only for 2.0 liter ?
@@HumbleMechanic P2014 for "Intake Manifold Runner Pos Sensor/Switch Circuit Bank 1” on my Audi A4 b7. To replace the intake manifold flap actuator you have to pop it off the flap arm
Hi guys, do you know what is the "Manifold partition" is for? They are like like square pieces of metal with two plastic shafts on the sides. Machinery shop gave me back the head with a plastic bag whith 4 of this. Thank you!
What about the Fresh Air house that is used for the new three ports on the new manifold? Also Ive seen that the Original fuel rail will not fit the revision of the manifold is this true ?
I don't know if it is possible. But my 10 cc it doesn't start. I fix the timing tension and the turbo blow - off valve. Now the scanner just shows me the intake is the only error code. Is possible the it is just the problem?
So, I have a 2014 GTI with the 2.0 TSI engine, and at 58000 miles I got the P2015 engine code. I researched and saw that there was maybe some kind of warranty on the intake, but the local VW dealership, or should I say stealership quoted me $1,325 to replace it. No warranties or anything. Plus I had to pay $140 just for a diagnostics tested tell me what I already learned for free at AutoZone. Sucks.
Help..Got a problem....again.. Three months ago my engine light came on (VW Passat CC 2.0t tsi) Code P2015. So I ordered a new intake (not the modified version but the old version) but now..... P2015 again..... really? After just three months? The seller of the intake asked me if the intake manifold sensor is also replaced?? Is that not a part of the intake? I really begin to hate my car... 😢
Sensor is part of the manifold. Was the manifold new? Multiple failures of that manifold are not uncommon. Also be sure the manifold has good vacuum supply
HumbleMechanic Thank you 🙏🏻 Yes, I ordered a new intake manifold. So to get the P2015 again was just a real Suprise to me. The car is still driving perfectly though... Greetings from the Netherlands!
Hi, in my tiguan 2009 the light check engine is On, error p2015, i change the intake maniflod new version , but never off de the light check engine, and in the ecu show yet error p2015, please what i can do ? Some configuration ?
Plastic manifold doesn’t inspire confidence. I have a 2008 GTI FSI and a 2008 Jetta 2.5. I actually just had a turbo fail in the GTI😔 and the Jetta is having some wiring issues unfortunately. That said, other than turbo no major fails so far at 100k on both cars. My biggest complaint is the amount of oil VW burns. Other than that I don’t think VW is any less reliable than any other brand. The key is proper care.
I have a P2187 code (lean at idle, fuel trim +13% at idle, air intake leak etc) on my MK6 GTI. Cleaned MAF, replaced PCV system, checked for leaks and it’s still idling rough with a CE light. Intake manifold is the next part to check. It’s driving me mad trying to nail down what’s causing my issue.
Hey Charles I changed my manifold when I did a carbon cleaning and the manifold I purchased didn’t come with a sensor so I had to use the old one and put it on now I’m getting a CEL for my intake runner position sensor. I’m wondering if I need to make sure the sensor is tightened all the way down or just purchase a new one to put on
@@HumbleMechanic yes I purchased the intake manifold from ecs tuning in a kit and it’s from an oe company Hamburg tech but yea it didn’t come on there and I have a ccta engine
hello there quick question what range is the computer looking for on the sensor transferred sensor from old manifold to new one and now have implausible fault that I didn't before after checking the mvb it ranges from 30 to 90% on the new manifold any help would be great thanks
So my 2010 2.0 tsi scirocco has the swirl flap arm issue where it pops out of the manifold. If i get a swirl flap delete kit will it remove this arm and replace it with a bung? My cars got a lot of mods so I can justify doing this... Good excuse for bigger injectors too??
Hi Charles I replaced my intake with the updated version and I got the code P2015. after soon closer review I noticed I had the vacuum connected on the wrong side would that be causing it. I will be trying out tomorrow
Hi Charles, I got the CEL P2015 code on my 2012 GTI. The first time I got the CEL I cleared it, and a few days later the CEL came back. I cleared it again and a couple days later the CEL came back. I drove the car with the CEL on, did some shopping and started my car and the CEL turned off. What happened? Why did the CEL turn off? When I scanned it the code is still there but no CEL.
Having the same issue. Waterpump replaced and now I have a p2015 code... Are you/ were you running a tune?
For anyone wondering, I bought this manifold for my 2011 2.0 >>>TFSI
Thanks for this comment, years later, I was looking for the answer because I bought it for mine :) !
I just threw a P2015 code today in my 2009 Audi A4. I'm going to have Audi fix it. Like you said, Audi has extended the warranty to 10 years or 120k from what I understand. I can report back. Thanks for the vids!
Turns out only B7s have a service bulletin. B8s haven't failed enough to have Audi issue the extended warranty. Arg!
SWEET!!! Thank you :)
I know it's been a while since you worked on the car. But I was just wondering if you would be able to help me figure out why i'm still getting trouble.Code p 2015. It's for a two thousand thirteen, volkswagen tiguan
What you need to do is get the intake rudder kit as well as the actuator, did you replace these and clean everything?
Also make sure the intake rudder actuator is plugged in all the way and the arm is connected all the way
Thanks for the love!!!
Cheers.
Hola me podrías decir que síntomas presentaba tú coche antes de cambiar el colector ?
Had my intake replaced under warranty on my 2013 GTI just today. I'm glad they put the revised part on. Hopefully it holds up!
I hope so too. I haven't heard of any failure of this style, but it's pretty new.
Kyle Bauer was it covered under powertrain warranty?
Yes it was
Kyle Bauer I have a 2013 out of warranty but they extended the warranty ok the 2012 to 120k miles. Do you know if it's the same part? Vw corporate said they couldn't help me. Mine is throwing a 2015cel but not showing any signs of running incorrectly.
Kyle Bauer I
Just wanted to say thanks for the video. 😕
AWESOME!
Jacob Defenbaugh Do you watch AvE?
+alexaescht Skookum choocher.
Watching your video convinced me to change the factory plastic manifold to an IE aluminum manifold on my 2012 A4 2.0.
Was looking for the same :), I found more info on installation collecting information from other videos
Great video again Humble Mechanic ,so glad my GtI mk7.5 has all the updates you have shown here ,some of them are visible .
Oh I love the TSi engines. I've driven about 5 different Golf's with the TSi in model years 2015 through 2017.
+Chris Castiglioni is that new? I know we have to add fuel treatment. I didn't know about the breather.
HumbleMechanic yeah it is new came out with the manifold. there should be a bulletin about it.
Back in around 2010 we had the same/similar problem in the Ford shop I used to work at (in Europe)
It was on the 1.8 and 2.0 gasoline engines and at first we replaced the flaps and installed stronger bushings untill Ford came with complete manifold to replace the broken ones.
One time I had an engine where the rod that hols/flips the flaps was broken and one of the flaps had been "eaten" my the engine. Imagine the damage that caused to the valves!
You do some nice editing Charles. As you may remember I don't own a German made car but I do have a German wife. I'm still looking for a fix.
Should have went russian.
Hahaha. This caught me off guard and I almost choked.
literally doing this job right now. This video was so helpful thank you!!!
Christian Morales hey do you need any sensor or part to complete the remplacement?
Thank you for your videos!! It helped me a lot with my personal case!
I have a 2009 Scirocco 2.0 TSI and i had the intake sensor error since last year but could only buy the intake last month, i was surprised when i got it and saw the arm was different...
But when i connected the vacuum line, i connected it to the new metal one, so i still had an error and the flap was stuck all the way open. It took me a while to get it, but ended up putting the old solenoid that wasn't faulty and i finally got rid of the error...
Now i only have the wastegate flap that it's making noise..... -.-"
Oh no on the wastegate noise. That sucks. Will the anti rattle clip fix is?
I already put one anti rattle clip in and the noise went away, but i could still ear it slighlty (i think the clip only mutes a bit the sound of the rattle)
So either it dropped at one time, wich i think that it is impossible when i think of the the trouble i had to get it in or the arm of the flap itself it's sideways like in one of your videos and in that case you know how it is....
Thank you.
NICE!
What’s your thoughts on the aluminium manifolds from ECS or IE as a substitute to these new ones?
Probably the manifold failure
I took my 2012 gti to the dealership and they changed it under the warranty. 😁👍
I’ve been hearing that more and more lately about the manifolds not lining up.
The p2015, check your vacuum supply to the the diagram.
This video was very helpful for my issue with my VW CC. Thank you for sharing 💯
If I'm needing to take my intake manifold apart to clean carbon deposits at 80k is it worth the preemptive replacement/upgrade, or let it ride until there's a problem and hope for an extended warranty replacement?
mercedes benz vehicles had a similar issue with the runner actuator would break. theres a company called all german auto that makes a billett aluminum pivot point for it instead of plastic
nick elias for vw intakes as well?
Not yet unfortunately :/
nick elias OK thanks
nick elias yeah but On VW you can't replace the arm. Less you destroy the intake to take the rod actuator out...
Lynx Star Automotive that sucks
I love your videos. Super informative and easy to follow. I wish though that they weren't so old because idk if my questions get will get answered. Anyway, Iam not a mechanic and this VW Passat is the first car I have taken on to this extent. WiSh me LUck!
Plastic manifolds... on a force-inducted engine...
I know it's been engineered and Charles himself said he can't recall ever seeing one split or crack but plastic just doesn't really give me any confidence of having a long service life.
Alexander Klein
No matter what kind , it eventually gets hard dry and gets brittle and cracks. Plasticizers and other big worded chemicals outgas from it and that's it.
Here's food for thought.
The faa says no locking bolts containing nylon or other items like that are allowed from the firewall forward.
That's more for fire protection ,but lemme use an Italian accent : itsa notta good
That is because when nylon gets hot(400F) it will burn, not melt. so not real great at fire suppression
Welder+ cnc and good chunk of aluminum. Same deal with water pump housing.
Hence the great reliability of modern German cars, ohh wait!
Yea I could not believe it myself when I heard they switched to plastic. Im still rockin my mk4 gti and absolutely love them. Currently saving for a mk3 jetta and mk2 gti. Hell eventually I plan on getting the rare bus/truck thing they made!
From what year was the intake updated???
Im interested in knowing how to remove the flaps? Or just cut them out but keeping the motor arm assemble in situ so the sensor works as intended
My 09 Audi A4 quattro (B8) just got the dreaded P2015 code. It has 118800 miles on it. I'm gonna check with my dealer if its part of the recall, but if not I'm definitely going to replace the manifold with the revised version.
Awesome!!! Hope it’s covered for you
@@HumbleMechanic the dealer told me it was not covered and they said I need a new manifold $1500... 🤣 What they did tell me is that my car has a recall on the water pump and the timing chain.
I'm gonna seafoam the manifold and gas tank this weekend.
What symptoms does the car do with a bad intake manifold
this one is mostly check engine light related
Mine's just failed. 10 year old Golf GTI. Thanks for information.
Got mine replaced on my 13 Beetle Turbo Fender edition in 2020. CEL came on a few days ago and go figure p2015 again. Wondering if they swapped it out with the old version and not the revision.
Very helpful, Where can you find the oem number on the intake manifold itself as I am trying to buy one that fits my car
Thanks
Same. I hear almost a whistling fluttering sound at idle to low acceleration. Anybody find a cause for this?
Question if you replace the sensor you need to coding or just plug and play?
Thank you for explaining I was looking for a Tiguan 2010 runner position sensor which hose where but you said metal side was supposed to be left open is that right
anyone know what the new hose that connects to the flap valve unit is for? shop dap and ecs both sell but can't seem to find a good explanation of what its for if it just vents to atmosphere...
I would like to know this as well
yall should also know that you need a new fuel rail that fits with this upgraded intake manifold.
Please help
Follow the vacuum line back and see if it’s broken
Hi. Could You tell me if it need to also replace sensor and valve with intake mainfold?
Hi Charles, when trying to install the rail on the updated manifold the hole don"t line up, its this common?
or do I have a defective updated manifold, thanks
Never ran into that. They always line up pretty well.
We just had the same problem. Holes did not align. Defective. Dealer had another that worked.
Do you have a video on valve adjustments on a 2.0 tsi vw mk6. I cant find one and i need info on it before i tackle the job. Thanks
There isn’t an adjustment
Do you have a video of the 2010 cc 2.0t
Cam sensor is throwing a P0341.
I just want to know the ohms range on the Cam sensor old has .844 new has 1.902 on the positive and ground. It runs better with the old one.🤯
I have 5v on positive plug
Thank you.
OK, I'm gonna weigh in against the haters, as a former hater myself, just about every car nowadays is going to have problems, because of all the technology in them, the government forcing emissions and CAFE ratings down manufacturers throats etc.
I have a 2008 Ford F-150, the most common pattern failures on that generation (2004-2008) were as follows: cam phase actuators, cam phaser solenoids, timing chains, timing chain tensioners, (interference motor BTW, out time = CRUNCH on the valvetrain)
4wd vacuum solenoids, 4wd actuator hubs, radiators, blend doors/actuators/cam plates, axle seals, carrier bearings on the LWB trucks, instrument panels failing, and if you do them wrong, spark plugs breaking in the heads, and failing fuel pump control modules( mounting aluminum parts on a steel frame, where water and salt can get to it, not the best design, but there's an update with standoffs that screw into the frame, to prevent it from corroding and breaking)
my truck is approaching 140k now, I've put a radiator in, 2 sets of plugs and coils (coils are junk, so bad, Ford only charges like $40 at the dealer for new ones)
one LF 4wd hub, a blend door, and now it seems my instrument cluster is on the fritz, everything else has been regular maintenance honestly.
Also.. YUGE HAHAHAHAH
Also, I want to wish you all the best on the tech job hunt. Good luck and do great things :)
HumbleMechanic much thanks sir, keep up the awesome video.
have you done a water pump replacement video on a TSI?
That would be good to see, or maybe a video on how to convince your girlfriend you must have a GTI Autobahn edition for 2018?
You are such a godsend Charles!
If your car isn't under warranty, is there a way to just delete the flapper system altogether? Fill and smooth the runner and tune out the sensor?
Yea. But it’s very expensive and requires a tune. You could probably do 5+ manifolds for that price. Lol
Mine just broke, warranty extention ended like 6 months ago lol
Gonna get my buddy who's a vw master tech to replace it. Under the table it's like $650 for part and install.
What about the Fresh Air Hose that is included? You didn't cover that.
Because at the time of this video it was not part of the repair. That did t start for a few months after the new manifold was out.
If you go to the link to buy it, Paul has that add on kit listed
I already purchased the manifold and it's now installed. There's not directions in how to install this part.
Anfecs Ian hey do you need any sensor or part to complete the remplacement?
Could a pinched hose in that valve trigger a P0299 code? 2014 Passat1.8t
possible for sure
Hi just replacing it now and have a question
The new type arm actuating solinoid you say to vent the silver outlet to atmosphere but I see there is a new air filter line that needs to be installed .
You may have to test the solenoid wires
@@HumbleMechanic do you happen to have any literature, links, or pinouts to reference a test?
Is this fit 1.8 TSI? i had the first generation BZB 1.8TSI
No the 1.8t TSI is a different setup.
Hmmm kinda looks the same both engines, almost identical outside, but whatever, thanks for the reply!
They are VERY similar for sure.
now as I think deeper on your question, if this is not a US car, it may be the same manifold. The US 1.8TSI was a different manifold. ROW might be the same.
HumbleMechanic yeah I’m from Europe. And my car is Seat Leon 1P 2008 model 1.8 TSI.
How do you pop the intake flap arm off to replace the motor? I’ve got code p2014 on my b7 a4
It’s a ball cup design. But why would you pop it iff
@@HumbleMechanic P2014 for "Intake Manifold Runner Pos Sensor/Switch Circuit Bank 1” on my Audi A4 b7. To replace the intake manifold flap actuator you have to pop it off the flap arm
How do I get the new intake when mine fails. 2011 CC 2.0t am I out of warranty?
Hi guys, do you know what is the "Manifold partition" is for? They are like like square pieces of metal with two plastic shafts on the sides. Machinery shop gave me back the head with a plastic bag whith 4 of this. Thank you!
This is a pic of that.

What about the Fresh Air house that is used for the new three ports on the new manifold? Also Ive seen that the Original fuel rail will not fit the revision of the manifold is this true ?
Haven’t seen that. When this video came out vw didn’t have the filter kit out yet
HumbleMechanic is it needed ? It looks like evap hose then something hooked to a bolt. What about the original frail rail fitting the new manifold
I don't know if it is possible. But my 10 cc it doesn't start. I fix the timing tension and the turbo blow - off valve. Now the scanner just shows me the intake is the only error code. Is possible the it is just the problem?
I have never seen an intake issue cause a no start
Charles how do your remove the solenoid??? It slides out??
I believe so. It’s likely clipped in
@@HumbleMechanic any method you have to un clip it? I’m trying to avoid removing the manifold
Sucks.
Yikes. We’re you not covered on the warranty? That wouldn’t be the dealerships fault.
They told me no warranty, I know it’s not their fault, but man, it still sucks!
Help..Got a problem....again..
Three months ago my engine light came on (VW Passat CC 2.0t tsi)
Code P2015.
So I ordered a new intake (not the modified version but the old version) but now.....
P2015 again..... really? After just three months?
The seller of the intake asked me if the intake manifold sensor is also replaced??
Is that not a part of the intake?
I really begin to hate my car... 😢
uh oh
Sensor is part of the manifold. Was the manifold new? Multiple failures of that manifold are not uncommon. Also be sure the manifold has good vacuum supply
HumbleMechanic Thank you 🙏🏻
Yes, I ordered a new intake manifold.
So to get the P2015 again was just a real Suprise to me.
The car is still driving perfectly though...
Greetings from the Netherlands!
Asli Caliskan do you solve problem ? Me too p2015 still present
The key is proper care.
can we get a p0491 from the manifold? or will that be the comi valve?
When should the arm move. Does it work when gas pedal is pressed
It works on throttle snap. Should move at 3800 rpm
I’m wondering if I need to make sure the sensor is tightened all the way down or just purchase a new one to put on
It didn’t come with a sensor? What year car? Never seen the CCTA/CBFA not come with a sensor
@@HumbleMechanic yes I purchased the intake manifold from ecs tuning in a kit and it’s from an oe company Hamburg tech but yea it didn’t come on there and I have a ccta engine
@@HumbleMechanic it’s a 2011 GTI , this is the exact part www.ecstuning.com/b-hamburg-tech-parts/intake-manifold-newest-revision/06j133201bh~ham/
What year was this updated? Also what's the difference between the plastic intake and metal and which is better and why?
hello there quick question what range is the computer looking for on the sensor transferred sensor from old manifold to new one and now have implausible fault that I didn't before after checking the mvb it ranges from 30 to 90% on the new manifold any help would be great thanks
dealer says I need 06H 133 201 AT for my 2009 audit a4 Quattro 2.0t TFSI. Are these the same??? I can't find a place to compare exactly
Had the same issue. For anyone else; refer to static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2017/MC-10127807-9999.pdf to get those vacuum hoses connected correctly.
Hi Charles,
I got the CEL P2015 code on my 2012 GTI.
