Be Atlantean. Have superior economy by default (moreso if Gaia). Have best classical army. Don't commit to any fight with your superior classical army that can be healed by a fast flying myth unit that most civs can't touch that also has a slow to give you a free straggler kill every fight (imagine if priests moved at 5.3 speed and had this, lmao). Don't bother raiding or disrupting your opponent for 15 mins. Have automatic protection against raids with manors, don't use it and lose multiple citizens every time. Avoid every fight except the moment you hit heroic with no upgrades or heroic age units against your opponent with heroic upgrades, God-specific upgrades for his preferred unit type, resto and bronze. Win anyway because bite of the shark Murmillo are fucking stupid. It's sad watching people who played worse win because purely because they picked Atlantean.
True, Matrieus should know you can't suicide your army like that as Greek though early in the game(especially twice), economy is too slow. Feel like he could have gone earthquake after he won that bronze fight. He could have even timed a fight over Players top gold mine just as lightning storm dropped
