No need to find a round Station for trenching.
From the main menu go into Training-Challenge Scenarios-Docking Practice and TADA.
Amazing video series, just started the game a few days ago and made immense leaps in skill thanks to your exercises

The speed of rotation of these stations is based upon centrifugal physics. They are spinning at the speed necessary to produce 1g of gravity. There is no artificial gravity in Elite Dangerous so to create gravity they have to use centrifugal force. Each type of station spins at the speed necessary to produce 1g of gravity on the inside of its outermost surface.

July 4th, 2017. Was when I played elite for more than 40 hours a week for a span of 3 months. FA On of course. Then I quit, got bored. Oct., 2020. Because of COVID, I picked it back up again. Primarily to update the VA profiles for fellow CMDRs and in doing that I had to "test" the game ;) After trying out Proficiency #1, I remembered, in 2017, I tried tethering briefly and most probably, from the same vids. You've helped so many people you won't believe and probably only a fraction of us commented. So thank you. I don't know how long #1 will take me but I will keep at it. In fact, after trying it for an hour just now, something happened. Suddenly FA On felt alien, I was having trouble flying my ship with it on.

I've been practicing over the last few weeks at about this 'level'. I've noticed a significant shift in how I treat everything, and getting a lot better. I've even tried combat, and found I was staying out of my opponents' line of fire a lot better. Now, a few of my fellow commanders in the Squadron are coming to me for help, and it feels amazing.

This is where I'm kind of stuck. I'm not a combat flyer by any means, but I have been doing some missions to see where my skills are. Right now I can destroy up to a dangerous or next level (can't recall the rank) NPC. But higher levels tend to stay in front of me facing me. I will start out engaging right above and behind but once they or I boost, I can't keep that distance closed and we are like a kilo or so away. At that point its a battle of who has the better weapons and shields because they are now matching my moves and I have to boost beyond. Then they just flip and I flip and it's the same thing. I have to figure out how to stop the backward drift faster.

@@XxsteamerxX I curently sometimes battle with the same thing, even with FA on. What you're doing basicaly is call jousting, you're both trying to pull the same manouvre, and end up facing each other. It's hard to get behind agile ships and skilled NPCs.

I'm also learning on a PS4 controller. Would love to hear the settings you use. At the moment I'm using pitch/roll on the left stick, yaw/vert for right stick, throttle is on the bumpers and laterals on L3 and R3.

    • @neuzboy3026

@@MrDeni23n I'm just using the default controls, as far a ship control goes. I fly in alternate most of the time so that I have more control of my vector. I've considered getting buying yaw pedals, but I play in bed so that wouldn't work.

This series is stunning. I’ve always been into helicopter flight and also recently drone flight. This zero gravity stuff takes it to another level. It’s like mixing helicopter and jet powered aircraft, in space lol. FA off is my new obsession. Thanks for this series, who needs gravity!!!

Colin Jowett Don't dismay. Just keep at it. I know that sounds like a standard response but it's really true. Dictating your position with FAOFF is a skill that takes some time to start seeing gains. But eventually, if you keep at it and keep calm even when it doesn't work out, your brain will switch gears and accept the new inputs.

Dude, I've been flying flight assist off since I got this game. I gotta tell ya, you got some skills. My approach is completely 'on the job' and crude (xbox) compared to your disciplined style.(Hybrid)
As to your last point about finding something special, I have found flight assist off techniques invaluable for minimising thruster use.
If you haven't already tried it, attempt to keep your ships heat around 18% and below.(switch off modules)
Flt assist off has a beautiful synergy with maintaining your ship for long periods in this low temperature condition, and it has obvious tactical benefits.

The most important thing and I dont see ANYONE talking to much is WHAT you are using to play: HOTAS ??? Xbox One controller ??? Mouse and pad ??? You need to configure properly each one BEFORE trying FA off. So, if you are trying to fly with FA OFF, its better search for a good configs BEFORE the basics flying lessons. Trust me.

@@renatomedina9528 I struggled to find a layout for my ps4 controller. I finally have a setup that is close to my original settings for FA ON, so it's taking a little while to get used to. The only downside with the controller is that it's harder to make micro adjustments. At the moment I'm using pitch/roll on the left stick, yaw/vert for right stick, throttle is on the bumpers and laterals on L3 and R3.

Flight Assist off, has its place. And if you want to go go through the process to learn it completely, I applaud you. But it's not what the game designers had in mind. There is a reason why Flight Assist is always engaged by default when you start a session. And with FA Off, you will *never* come to a complete stop except when the docking clamps engage or getting stuck from a botched docking. There will always be a tiny amount of rotation. It might only be 1/10 (or even 1/20) of a degree. But in 10 seconds (or 20 seconds if it is 1/20 of a degree) degree you will have rotated 1 degree.
You see, coming to 0 speed from rotation with no drifting *at all* requires micro burns for microseconds. Humans just cannot be that precise. But computers can. And that's what Flight Assist is for. Your videos are interesting and entertaining, but I have no desire to use full manual control 100% of the time. But for those who do, have fun.

    • @Wylie288
      @Wylie288 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Its on by default because a casual player cannot handle it. Computers aren't that accurate either, but even in 2018 we can dock things to the ISS. 3304? Docking clamps would be very forgiving.

Nobody seem to have answered your question, but what I do to use with my mouse+KB in FA-OFF setup is having "Relative Mouse Axis - ON" on both vertical and horizontal (so a push of the mouse is just a burst of thrust and not a constant thrust). It makes FA-ON a bit more of a chore but I've been FA-OFF on everything except looting crates lately.
