  • It's the last day of planting, the sky is blue, and the AC is cold, it doesn't get much better than that! A walk around of the 2-155, a little history of the tractor, and an unexpected guest in the field.

    My dad had a '66 Chevelle 396 when he was 16. We lived on "roller coaster road", with 3 or 4 hills that would get you pretty light in the seat when you hit them about 60 lol. Congrats on getting crops in for 2019! Always a good, satisfying feeling! That picture at the end is just *AWESOME!!* Always like seeing pictures like that, but really love them when there's a story tied to them as well. Pretty nice tractor! Great shape! Awesome video! Dad only put ideas in my head with that story. I had a 79 square body 4x4 with a strong 350 and 4 on the floor. There's a similar hill here at the home farm, and I got some of my high school friends suddenly weightless on it. Later that night we're out zipping around in the wheat stubble and I hit a small washout. The old truck didn't have a working interior light, so I was totally shocked when I went to push the clutch pedal down and it was GONE! We walked the half mile home in the dark, came back out in the light to see that the pedal was still there, but as down as the dash and floorboards would allow. The engine flexed enough in the frame that the pivot came off the ball stud on the block. Easy fix and lots of fun.

    The 80s were such awful years for so many family farms, including my families. Just could not make it, but mean while White is coming out with great units like this, as was Allis Chalmers which we used. It would be good to have a bit more variety in the machinery market. Unfortunately a lot of companies couldn’t pull through either. Really impressive tractor. Just looked up a FWA model for 15k. By the way, we had geese on n our farm, first of all they are mean as he//. Secondly, bent upland grazers when the Canadian Geese come through they leave a swath a destruction. Coyotes have taken ahold again in MN. But I’m more concerned about Black Bears resurgence. My mom found one eating seed in her screen porch this fall. She screamed and it leapt back through the screen. But she won’t let me kill it either, the stupider they are the more dangerous, that SOB is going to die next spring. Going to need a big revolver, he’s 300lbs.

      @corydevries3494 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThatOliverGuyChris I bought it back in 1997 from 1st owner and they had put a extra remote on it. And it would blow hydraulic hoses? From what I could tell it was a open center remote.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      An open center remote on a closed center system is a definite no-no. It allows full flow when in neutral, so the pump will always be pumping at maximum, causing lots of heat and premature wear. The hoses wouldn't last as long, but as long as they were rated for at least 2500 psi, they shouldn't blow out.

  • @BuckeyeJoeG
    @BuckeyeJoeG 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What is the brand or GPH of electric fuel pump you used? My dad’s 2-155 seems to lose power once the top fuel tank is empty.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I looked the pump over and couldn't find any markings other than in and out. It's been at least 10 years since I added it on, so of course I don't remember any of the specifics for it, plus they probably don't make that particular one any more either. The Hercules can use 8 gallons per hour when working hard, so to be on the safe side and compensate for injector bleed off, I'd get around 10 gph or a little better. The waukeshas with a Roosa Master run 10 psi on the lift pump, so I would shoot for the same with an electric pump. This one came rubber mounted to a mounting plate, so it dampens vibration and isolates it electrically . I'm sure you could find something similar at Jegs, Summit, Jc Whitney, or even Napa.

    Another nice looking tractor and a good back story! I always liked the way those bigger whites looked with duals and fwd. Is that the same drill you pull with the 1955 that you mentioned in the dyno video? How many acres do you farm? Thanks for another great video...

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, the same drill. I farm about 900 tillable acres. People have requested a video of the collection, but it would probably end up being 2 hours long with me talking about the history of each tractor, so I've been trying to do them one by one. Of course when I get done with a video, I remember stuff I should have put in. I guess that will make for future video material. Thanks!

    • @aaronkaraszewski2749
      @aaronkaraszewski2749 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThatOliverGuyChris how does the 1955 pull that drill? I bet it would take quite awhile to make a video for your collection. I really like the idea of the fuel cooler, I defiantly would think it must run better with the fuel at lower temp then what the rest of the engine is at.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 1955 handles it great. If it had air conditioning, I might use it for beans as well. I pull at 2000 engine rpm in 4th direct, which gets me about 5 mph. That seems to be the threshold speed where the rock damage happens more often, so I like to keep it there. I have to shift down to under drive on some of the hills, where the 2-155 doesn't ever have to shift down.
      I'm thinking the cooler fuel would be denser, but more importantly, have better lubricity. I don't use it in extreme cold, so fuel gelling isn't an issue for this one.

    • @aaronkaraszewski2749
      @aaronkaraszewski2749 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThatOliverGuyChris yes definitely help better lube. Espically with today's fuels. What type of injection pump is used on those Hercules engines? I am not to fimilar with them. I always liked how 2-135 red stripe looked also.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They use the Roosa Master injection pump. I'd have to look at the tag to tell you exactly which model, but for the most part, it's the same as what was used on most 50 and 55 series Oliver diesels.

    This is strictly personal taste but I always really liked Oliver's and Whites also but damn I don't know why they could never seem to find a happy medium with the length of them as far as the front axle goes, cosmetic wise I mean. These Whites look too stubby I feel and the Oliver's were freaking awful!! The underslung axle was hideous looking and the extended one, or whatever the right term is, wasn't much better looking. Idk why they couldn't just be normal and position the damn axle where it belongs just like every other company did. I'm talking just looks wise as far as my opinion goes. It's ashame too cause they made damn good tractors and equipment!

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You're not the first person I've heard say that. Personally, it doesn't bother me, but I grew up with them so they look normal to me. The reason for keeping the FWA axle back farther was it helped with turning radius. I remember guys saying they didn't want FWA because it took too much room to turn them around, and by the time we closed the dealership in 98, you couldn't hardly sell a tractor without it. AGCO moved the axle ahead on the early powershift tractors. We sold a 6175 FWA and we ended up putting straddle spacers on the front axle so the customer could go down 30" rows and still turn around. Thanks for watching!

      Chris Losey Just found your Channel. Looking forward to watching videos and catching up. The short wheel base is a blessing when chopping haylage, no wasted time on headlands! Have two Whites, 2-135 FWA and a 100 FWA. According to the museum in Charles City, the 135 was possibly the 3rd 4th or 5th FWA to come of the line. Around 600 hrs. sleeves and rings were replaced, engine rebuilt at 11,000 hrs. Dairy farming (Wi.) , was used for everything, (“355” days a year, only tractor with cab). The 100 was repowered just under 15,000 hrs. Still have both.

      Too bad White didn't think of super steer. I know my neighbors 2-155 didn't turn real short. His was set for 30" rows. His has rub mark's on the frame from trying to turn too short. I borrowed my cousins JD 4960 once to do field work with it couldn't turn as short as our NH TG 210 I had to make an extra head land to turn around on.
