  • The corn is all planted, which means it is time for soybeans to get in the ground. We're getting dry here in southern Michigan, so seeing where I am going to proving to be a challenge. It's a good thing that I'm solid seeding them so that the crooked rows disappear.

    I like the White 2-155, tractor running and looking nice. I think that the Great Plains drill looks good and with the new knives looked like it worked good, too. Well, I hope your plantings turn out good this season, you put a lot of work in it, as I'm sure you do every year. I guess all that's left is for the rains and the warm temps to do their job. Good luck with all of the crops, I hope you have a great week.

      It's been really spotty in the Midwest. There are areas just getting in the field because of rain, and others that could really use some rain. The smoke from western Canadian wildfires is visible here in Michigan as a haze in the sky.

    Thanks for taking the time and effort to make these interesting videos. I really appreciate your passion for using vintage equipment in your farm operation. It makes sense to look for low cost ways to improve precision for planting and seeding. I know that Ag Leader has some lower cost alternatives that provide auto-steering and planting modifications on vintage equipment. If you have not already, they may be worth checking out.

    Chris, I'm curious, does your 2-155 and 2-70 have the old "vacuum" flow between the upper and lower fuel tanks with the vented lower and non vented upper cap? My 2-85 still has the old system at SN:270 and apparently there was an update that came later that switched fuel feed from the bottom tank rather than the top? Perhaps you've addressed this elsewhere and I've just missed it, but apparently lots of guys have had bugaboos with engines staying running and/or starting with top tanks empty or other scenarios. I was curious as to what you've personally experienced. I was told my grandfather had "trouble" with the lower tank when he had the 2-85 and he simply just closed the valve and stopped using it all together.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 2-70 is just the single tank, and the 2-155 draws off the bottom tank with a single fill point at the top tank. We used to have a 2-105 that had the separate tanks, and I never had any problems. It really helps to have the top tank full. The less air space there is, the quicker it gets enough vacuum to pull fuel from the bottom tank. Personally I liked the setup, because if I was doing lighter work with it and not using a lot of fuel, I could top off the bottom tank from the ground since it drained first. If the gauge is working, it will show the top tank is getting low, even if it's not drawing from the bottom for some reason. My 2050 has fender tanks that work on the same principle, and it has a harder time getting the fuel to transfer if the main tank is half full vs full.

    • @andrewwagner7992
      @andrewwagner7992 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ThatOliverGuyChris Good stuff, I wasn't really wanting to convert over anything since I had bought new pieces for the lower fuel tank, and I'm hopefully about to get all the other mechanical bugs out where I can operate this thing consistently. Fingers crossed it works for me as is.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They are but they're cheap enough that no one wants them back. They have to wash them to reuse them for retail seed sales, and it costs as much to wash them as it does to get new ones. I reuse them for wheat seed, or give them away.

      It was custom built for a local tractor puller in 1981. 36 foot deck with 4 tail, Two 12 k axles with electric over hydraulic disc brakes. I bought it in 1998. I had it sandblasted, painted and the axles gone through in 2010, that's when it was converted to electric over hydraulic. It had been vacuum over hydraulic prior to that. Myself and couple of friends put a new white oak deck on it after I got it back from paint.

      Could it be the injection pump?

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bige3473 it's probably the injection pump. There a governor ring inside there that is made of plastic. When it gets old and brittle, pieces break off and get stuck in the valve that is on top of the pump, going to the return. The junk blocks the return and builds up too much pressure inside the pump, causing it to die. The pressure bleeds off and you can start it again until the pressure builds up again. You can screw that fitting out of the too of the pump and try to clean it. That might get you running if you're trying to get something done, but it needs to be rebuilt or more pieces will get in that fitting again.
