    The 556 was designed for 'target disable', the 45-70 for 'target stop' 😛

    Put a rubber o-ring on the groove of the safety button.That way the safety wont get bumped on.I enjoy watching you teaching your children.

    I just picked up a jm stamped marlin 1895 45-70 with factory ports. I was originally going to get one of the ruger ones...but ran into this & apparently are getting a little rare & r a little more desired. So i snatched it & absolutely love it! Love it ported!i had a regular non ported one about 10 yrs ago & i do remember it had more recoil.

    Love it! I got a Ruger made Marlin 1895 SBL I picked up in December of 2022. Unfortunately, I haven't even shot it yet. I'm itching for it to secure a hog on its record.

      It's a fantastic rifle - I also thoroughly enjoyed using the iron sights. While I'm looking at adding some NV/Thermal optics now, I haven't decided yet what the primary setup will be.

    How was the trigger on the 45-70. Down side of that round is the cost, but for sure fun!!!!! Ever consider putting together a sausage making video? Sausage is part of our heritage!!!!

    • @TexasJAGD
      @TexasJAGD  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That sausage-making video would be a catastrophe as I have never made any sausage to date. However, I did get a German book which is all about making traditional German (or European-influenced) sausage.
      I just had this conversation with friends however - I need the proper facilities to do this. It drives me crazy when I don't have the right place/table/temperature/equipment to properly butcher and prepare meat. It's on my list. I'd love to have a walk-in cooler and butchering room some day.

      @@TexasJAGD I think your father and grandfather could lend a wonderful hand if still with us. Believe it or not, few Texans have ever had good German sausage. I was fortunate to grow up where they only spoke German in the butcher shop and OH the smell of smoke!

    They make a screw setup to replace that cross-bolt safety, so you can just use the hammer for the safety. Eliminates the chance of hearing 'click' instead of 'bang.'

    I love mine. I would rather shoot my 45/70 than my 270. It's just more fun. I even put my night scope on it because I feel the bullet will be in the dirt at 200 yards and where visibility may be limited, this is an additional safety measure.

      @@TexasJAGD Owning one is the primary reason I ventured into repacking my cartridges. Reloading saves me quite a bit. The straight brass also allows to reload more times because of less stresses of not being "necked down." Too bad the Lever Magic or whatever those Hornady rounds are called can't be re packed. I have never been told why we can't bUt that is the common thought. Yes, it is pricey and I feel your pain. Watching the rich boys blow though round after round makes my
      head spin.

    So you didn't even shoot it to get used to it or to see if it was on sight? If not that's pretty good to take a rifle out the box load it and one shot one kill.

    What was the last thing that went through your mind as you were swinging your bang stick around just before your funeral?
    A 45-70 projectile?

  • @russellkeeling4387
    @russellkeeling4387 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have to wonder why they chose to call this model of rifle a "trapper"? My father was a trapper and I was a trapper, my brother was a trapper and I've known many members of the Colorado Trappers Association. We never carried a 45/70 on any trap line. The goal is to sell the pelts of the animals you catch so you want them in the best condition possible. A .22 lr is the rifle you carry and if you're concerned about safety a nice large caliber handgun. Weight is always a factor because many times you have to check the trap line on snow shoes. So mostly a handgun isn't even carried.
