@mirandat7458 When we had them in stock, the most that we would put in them is 32 GB of RAM. But the best way to answer this question is to simply fill out our Tech support form. Our in-house technicians will answer with the links and info you will need. Here is the link: www.bobjohnson.com/tech-support-form/ Thanks for Watching.
Sorry about that. Some of our videos from 4+ years ago didn't have the best lighting. We'll look into redoing that one with some better lighting. Thanks for watching!
I have a 5414 with 8gb want to put 8 more in. The video does explain if their is 2 ram slots or if I have to buy a 16 gb stick. Could you comment with more details taking into consideration although I am mechanically inclined I am somewhat computer illiterate, I’m trying to learn lol. Also does all ddr4 offer the same performance besides the brand? Thanks!
Hi Josh! Great questions! Yes, there are two RAM slots on the 5414. You can go ahead with 8GBx8GB (8GB per slot, a total of 16GB)- it will take up to 16GBx16GB (16GB per slot, for a total of 32GB). As far as RAM is concerned, each brand is programmed (a code sequence is programmed onto the RAM chips) a bit differently (for example, Dell RAM is programed to work with Dell computers. If you put Dell branded RAM in an HP, there’s a chance it might not boot up). Those issues I mentioned are more prominent with older RAM like DDR1-3. DDR4 luckily plays a bit nicer, as there are so many RAM manufacturers today. However, the specs of the RAM are most important when it comes to performance- you want to look at this- not necessarily the brand. Specifically paying attention to size (overloading your computer can actually cause it to slow down and in extreme cases, fail to boot- this is why there is a maximum recommended RAM for each computer), frequency, latency and bandwidth. So yes, in a nutshell, DDR4 can perform differently based on these factors. I hope this helps.
@@Bobjohnson it helps immensely, thank you. 1 more question if I may, I also see that the 5414 model came in either a touchscreen display or a non touchscreen display, mine is the NON touchscreen version. Can I simply buy a touchscreen replacement and swap it into mine without hassle? Thanks!
The Dell Latitude 5430 can be upgraded to have up to 64 GB of DDR4 RAM. Make sure that you get the correct RAM if you plan to upgrade. Thanks for watching!
This laptop actually had the battery, hard drive and DVD drive already removed before we started the repair video, like we stated at the beginning of the video. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for posting- seen this and your blog and you seem to be the only source of info on rugged laptops
Thanks for watching!
