Good review. I just toured Scotland on mine, 1500 miles no issues. If you look after this bike and Service it properly it will look after you. I scooped out the seat padding With a kitchen knife and refilled it with soft foam and 10 times more comfortable and an inch and a half lower. Use the original seat cover with a staplegun. Yeah there is no better bike than this for motorway touring and if you run out of road. There is nowhere to go so I would hang onto this bike
Sorry to hear you are having reliability issues. I have a 2020 KTM 790 Adventure R that I have ridden for 2 years and 25.000 km with 0 issues. I keep hearing about reliability issues with KTM bikes but I have not had a problem. I installed a Camel ADV skidplate but the rest it stock. I love this bike. This bike is so much fun even if it broke down once a week I wouldn't give it up lol
KTM dealer network and overall CS here in Texas is pretty good actually. I too worry about the typical KTM issues but so far so good. The fact that the bike is head and shoulders above everything else in it's class is a worthwhile tradeoff. I wouldn't have it any other way, my 890 R will be in my garage for a while.
I owned a 990 Adventure. Within 10k miles the water pump toasted and put coolant into the oil. The dealer fixed the pump, saying water in the oil..no problem! Left me flabbergasted that the dealer (and some other owners)poopooed having chocolate milk in the crankcase. So, the new pump lasted a little more than 6kmiles. My friend and I fixed the pump .. modified it really. Lousy design has the impeller shaft catalievered way off the shaft bearing. Bearing gets sloppy which wears the seal which then leaks into the crankcase. Pathetic design no excuses for a water pump like that. I bought a DL1000...35kmiles later it's running beautifully with no issues. Valve check at 25K required no adjustment. Change fluids and go. Thanks for the honesty on the review.

Only 1 dealer in Vegas, really? There are 3-4 in the Denver area near me, so if one sucks, at least there are others you can visit. I've owned several KTM's and found they run hot/cold. If you get a good one, you're fine, but a bad one is really bad. As far as the one bike unicorn, my KTM 690 is the closest I've found. But I've put a ton of work into it to "Adv" it and it's nowhere near as good as a 790/890 on the highway. I do all the work on it myself, so I don't rely on a dealer. It also doesn't have nearly as much electronic stuff as the 790/890, so I don't need the dealer. I do think calling a 450-475lb Adv bike a "middleweight" is ridiculous, I agree it's still a really heavy bike for BDR type of riding

Good Review, I found your channel looking up, Baja information, which was very helpful. You nailed it on 400 pounds and being simple and reliable. My Gen1 KLR is max weight just under 400 lbs. & what I'll take to Baja, good on the road and light off road. My DR650 is a great mid 300 lb. bike and does street and off road very well. If I know the trails are tough or need a bike to pre-run some trails and highway it is the XR650L all day. They are all easy to maintain and you can mod them for better off road cheaply. Both my DR & XR have USD forks which turn the bike into a different machine.
Majority of the UK dealers are also crap, I have a KTM 690 and would love an 890 but the after sales service puts me right off, not sure what the dealers problem is but they seem universally shit, my BMW dealer cant do enough for me when I take my GSA in for service, please KTM give your dealers a kick up the backside you will sell shed loads more bikes

@@advmatt Im suppose to hang with a buddy in second half of February in death valley. Hes on a GS, maybe you're free one of those weekends. We can chat more later!
Ive been looking into them. Thats good advice, appreciate it! Have fun in Baja, thanks for watching mate!
I love my 850gs...just sayin
Same, but all bikes are not perfect especially if you ride them Like Adventure Bikes.
Theyre excellent motorcycles! Thanks mate
Majority of the UK dealers are also crap, I have a KTM 690 and would love an 890 but the after sales service puts me right off, not sure what the dealers problem is but they seem universally shit, my BMW dealer cant do enough for me when I take my GSA in for service, please KTM give your dealers a kick up the backside you will sell shed loads more bikes
maybe a Honda African Twin will be best bike for the type of ride that you do, is more reliable than ktm
Ive been looking at the Africa Twin a bunch, the DCT is sounding good. Im just not sure about the 16-19 or get a 20+.I wish there was a transalp available Id buy it in a heartbeat! Thanks for watching!
Sounds like you are trying to convince yourself to get a lighter bike lol. I Rip on my 850gsa off road. Ride what you can handle.
I already have a 350, the 850s are nice but its just as heavy as the 1250s and $20,000 out the door. Thanks for watching!
I smell a Yamaha coming your way…….
If I could find one, but im not looking to get raped right now. Lol
The fuel capacity is what turned me away before and its still an issue.
Thanks for watching!
Over 15k$ I want to travel nationwide without worry of breakdowns and finding help if it does.
Customer service is shit everywhere and imo it’s the generation that is shit. Cause & effect maybe but it’s managers that need to fix that issue & stealerships aren’t known for taking care of employees. Bidenomics cmon man
