Great speech .. There needs to be a video to complement Sam's speak showing the memorable highlights thru the year and there needs to be an award for the best celebration. I also liked how the team used failure (first five) to fuel their determination to do better.
Sam looks like he could still be playing. Captain/Coach used to be a thing in the VFL. Sam Mitchell could do it easily. I know hes well passed his best playing years but he's such a good leader. I'm glad he had a chance to lead our great club to a flag in 2008. 'Serious Pills' as the fellas used to call him was maybe a little too full on for the role long term and Hodgey was a great captain. Sam has definitely melkowed over the last few years.
I am glad the loss still burns. Even after what can only be described as a season of over achieving, there is pride but no satisfaction. Sam sees one goal and anything less than that goal is a failure. I wouldn't want anyone else at yhe helm right now.
Nice work Sam. Remember when the media hacks were accusing of tanking. Great coaching work, not only you but the assistants, well done coaching staff. Great recruiting of new players, and building present players. Being honest, will be pain before gain. And not doing Roos/Lyon of flooding the backline when getting pumped. That game style will not win you finals. Keep on keeping on.
