N Scale Coupler Issues - ScaleTrains Locomotive vs Kato Rolling Stock

ScaleTrains Dash 9 with a body mounted coupler will not stay coupled with Kato Coal Porters with Truck Mounted couplers. Looking for advice. Will a body mounted coupler on the lead piece of rolling stock connected to the locomotive fix this issue?

I had the same issue i just swap the lead car truck with a microtrains truck with coupler and it works great

I had this issue as well. Your radius on your turns is too tight. If the coupler on the loco is on the shorter side it will derail the car closest to it due to it not having enough space to travel. I actually just recently made my layout slightly larger to fix this exact issue. You can also fix it by installing a long shank coupler on your locomotive, but I'm not the biggest fan of how that looked so I decided to bight the bullet and make the curves on my layout a wider radius.

Put some weight on the first car

weight plus changing the couplers got it fixed.
