  • Firstly, I want to say thank you all for the incredible amount of support that I received on my previous video. I saw so many kind-hearted and positive comments that pushed me to make my next video even better. Secondarily, I would like to apologize for such a late upload. I've had to perform the world's toughest juggling act, with school, work, and my relationships with my family and girlfriend being front and center.
Now, I wanted to kickstart a series regarding video game controversies, and I figured that there would be no better place to start than with the Mortal Kombat series. With Mortal Kombat 1 releasing just roughly a month ago, I thought that it would be a perfect opportunity to upload my very first episode of "Controversy Corner", a series that fixates on all of the most debated, contentious, and controversial moments in video game history. Enjoy!

The quality on your videos is really good! And you have great insight into video games too. Just watched your horror moments in non horror games video and am excited to watch this one too. Sub earned.

Thank you for talking about the Krypt while not showing any of those stupid jumpscares. Everybody bloody does this when they do it and I hate them for it.

Fatalities were so important to the franchise, that "Fatality" was a working title for the first game.

As someone who didn't have a console growing up and later got into Mortal Kombat, this is a fantastic video for an education on its history. Keep up the good work sir

Ah, the Mileena fans...it was fun taking the piss outta them. They didn't deserve her in MK11 after all the death threats they sent Ed Boon on Twitter.

also You forgot about the communist flag on one of skarlet's hats that caused it to be banned in a lot of countries.

You know its a slippery slope one second you're playing Mortal Kombat the next you are ripping out spines. 😂. And I adore, the ladies, Kitana and Jade are the best thing in Mortal Kombat. And you gotta admit Revenant designs in Mk11 were pretty cool. Jade never looked better than she did dead. Bring Jade back!

One thing you didn't mention about the female character redesigns for MK11 was Skarlet. I agree for the most part with what was said in the video, idc if the women wear clothes or don't. But for Skarlet specifically her powers are touch-based, as in skin-to-skin. Why is she wearing gloves? Why is she covering morr of her skin? It makes 0 sense from a lore perspective. Change whatever you want but don't actively detract from the lore.

This was probably mentioned before, but Liu Kang as a character is a love letter to Bruce Lee. His fighting style is pretty much a more fantastical version of Jeet Kune Do. His screaming is supposed to evoke Bruce Lee's screaming during fight scenes in his movies like Enter the Dragon, not be a racist stereotype against all Asians.

i have fond memories of Mortal Kombat.
it was the very first game i played, i was 15 years old, and my friend had that version with a bunch of slasher villains in it, i can't remember which one it was though.
i heard about how violent, gory and distasteful it was, and me, being a rebellious teenager, wanted to see just how bad it was... and i was kinda disappointed about the lack of gore... which sounds like such a cringelord thing to say, but it's true, lol.
like, it was certainly violent, but i personally found the x-ray camera thing hilarious, like, you obliterate the opponent's spine, smash their skulls, crush their ribs, dislocate their jaws, snap their legs... but when you come out of the x-ray zoom thingy, they're completely unfazed, it's kinda funny.
i think people can sometimes get too worked up over dumb shit, like, yeah, Mortal Kombat and other video games like Call Of Duty or Silent Hill, or GTA are violent and a little insensitive at times, but at the end of the day, it's just pixels, it's not the same as inflicting real violence on real people.
and i know people say violent video games can inspire people into being violent, but that's just a cop-out excuse for shitty parents who don't wanna take accountability for the way their kid turned out to be.
it's not like some kind of hypnosis where, if you're exposed to violent video games, movies or music, you're gonna turn out to be a criminal, that's just not how it works.

No, they’re just a bunch of old people they don’t like video games. That’s the only reason why an MK is a target that’s why. Simple.

I don't think the problem lies with just the overtly skimpy designs of the female characters. But I do think it is worth asking why ALL OF THEM have to have their tibbies out, especially in earlier games (not just MK, this is wide problem in video games), and the obvious impracticalities in their outfits, but for a fantasy series the practicality is understandably not so much of a concern, many of the male characters also have some pretty impractical outfits. I think the problem is is that their designs repetitive, and well... garbage. They all look the same, and don't even look good. I get more mad when games that have their male characters decked out in military gear have the girls in party dresses and high heels, Resident Evil, for example, but at least Ada actually looks good! I think a particularly egregious example is Quiet from Metal Gear Solid V, yes she has a canonical reason for wearing less clothing, but WHY is she in a bikini top, ripped tights and THONG?!!!? There's no amount of excuses that can explain why she would be designed wearing that apart from as purely fan service, and we know that if she was male, she would not be treated this way. And that's just not fair. Why couldn't she just wear loose clothing? Or even still a skimpy top but like a supportive sports bra and not a tie on string bikini. Like, sorry what? Yeah, female characters can wear skimpy clothing and be designed with sex appeal in mind, but why oh god why do they have to take it that far, while simultaneously having all their male characters fully clad in armour?

This video was too long. Halfway through it, I got hungry so I left it playing and went to the kitchen to fix myself a sandwich. But then I found out that I'm out of mayonnaise so I went to a store. There, I saw the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my whole life. But I'm a really shy person so I took up a three-year personality development course so I could introduce myself. She was very friendly and all, but unfortunately, she had a boyfriend. So I said, all good, I'm a mature person. I wanted the best for her and I harbored no illusion that I am the best person for her and she seemed happy with her boyfriend, so I didn't bother her anymore. But we kept in touch and we became friends and I got over my crush on her. Then she broke up with her boyfriend, we drank some alcohol because of it. I told her she'll be fine and I wished her well. I still think she's the most beautiful woman in the world, but like I said, I am over my crush on her. It was like five years already since I first saw her. Besides, I am quite happy with the friendship I developed with her. It was more important than a crush. So we kept hanging out, drinking, having coffee, and all. I had a girlfriend, she started dating other guys. My girlfriend wanted to live some other life without me in it, so I said, "Okay, I want the best for you and I want you to pursue your happiness." My lady friend and I drank alcohol about it, and she gave me the same advice I gave her when she was in that position and I became okay with the breakup immediately. But we were really drunk, so she spent the night in my apartment. I only have one bed, so you know what that means: She took the bed and I slept on the couch. But on the couch, I really can't sleep. Something was bothering me. So I tossed and turned for about three hours, then I finally couldn''t take it anymore, I stood up and went straight to my room where she's sleeping. I approached the bed, gently sat on it and I reached for her shoulder to pull her closer to me. She stirred and woke up. She asked what's up. I told her, "you know, the first time I saw you, I was watching a video and left it playing to get myself a sandwich then went to the store to get some mayo then I got so distracted by life that I forgot to finish the video." She said, "You know what, I've been wondering about a weird noise in your night drawer." So we opened that drawer, and lo and behold, there's my phone and this video still has two minutes of play time on it.

fun fact about GTA san Andreas being racist.
it's the first GTA game where you play as a person of color, and the first action he performs in the story is stealing a bicycle.
