  • Waterslide is a great way to apply designs to hard surfaces with just a few materials! Hiipoo sent us a pack of their new Hiipoo Waterslide Decal Paper, and we created photo lanterns with photos from our recent vacation! There were a few key things to figure out with applying Waterslide to glass, but once we did, the Waterslide worked flawlessly to apply photos to glass.
    In all of the ways we've seen people try to make photo lanterns, this is by far our favorite. The waterslide is easy to apply to glass, and the translucency makes it

    Brings back memories of making scale models as a kid as they always had waterslide decals 😁

    Thank you for the video inspiration. I use waterslide paper made for a laser printer and it works great. Laser ink is waterproof, so I can eliminate the topcoat spray. To try to eliminate the diffuser step, I thought I printed on white waterproof label paper instead of waterslide paper, since we don't want the finished image to be transparent because the lights would be seen as well as the backside of the other images. I happen to have a bunch of these lanterns laying around, so I am going to give it a go!

    It helps to put it in the water upside down.

    Thanks a bunch! In one fell swoop, you destroyed my plans to try additional photo transfer processes based on our viewers suggestions. This is absolutely WONDERFUL!!! You did a fantastic job explaining the entire process. One question for clarification, in the end, I believe you flipped the glass around and displayed the actual back side of the image. Now that you have done this, would you recommend printing in reverse after all? (when applying to glass)

      You are TOO kind! And that’s a great question. Had we known that we were going to flip the images in the end, we would have considered mirroring the images to print. Luckily, none of our images had writing, so there wasn’t an issue when we flipped them manually. 😃

    When I blot with paper towel.. the ink lifts off some. Do I need more acrylic spray?

      Hey! If the ink is lifting, it does sound like you need more acrylic spray.

    Would frosty contact paper work in place of stencil blanks? I don't own a cricut looking for alternatives to stencil blanks.

    • @JustMightDIY
      @JustMightDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Anything that will diffuse the light should work great. You can easily cut that stencil blank with scissors or an exacto. Hope this helps!

    Do you think the waterslides need to be sealed after being placed on the lantern? I’m concerned they will peel or crack with time. I did seal them before placing them on the lantern.

      We haven't had a problem yet, but we don't light ours up a lot either. Did you lose any clarity with the extra sealant layer?

      I am surprised and happy that you responded to my question. More often than not do my questions ever get answered on TH-cam. And i have not loss any clarity. Thank you for responding to my question.

      That's great! Sounds like you're better protected on yours than we did on ours! Next time, we will consider that!
