Korea take on Denmark in the semifinals of the men's badminton event at the London 2012 Olympic Games (4 August).
Badminton made its debut as a demonstration sport at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. It was not until the 1992 Games in Barcelona that it was officially included on the Olympic programme, with men's and women's singles and doubles events. The mixed doubles event made its debut in 1996 at the Atlanta Olympic Games. Since then, the number of events has remained unchanged.

That's pretty much how much badminton pride means to Denmark.

i totally agree with that, it would have been a much better final. The danes played too well here and couldn't maintain that for the finals as well and Cai and Fu took total advantage of that.. You can't take it away from the danes though, they played absolutely incredible here and beat the 2nd best pair in the world in the most important tournament in badminton.

Objective speaking, the Danes were not on the same class as the Chinese. Even if the Danes were in top form, I doubt that they could have given the Chinese a run for their money. Jung/Lee were the only pair (at the time) that was capable of going toe to toe with them. It was a pity that the Korean pair failed to make finals as they were the heavy favourite to win it all.

A big part of badminton is in the mind and i feel there are no other mens doubles pair in the world that compare to Boe and Mogensen mentally. There is nothing cheap about what they do, it gives them such a huge advantage because they are always in control, or at least they feel they are, which is a massive confidence boost, which makes them play better.

Dingqi Song. The English crowd support the "underdog". In badminton Asia is dominating, so an english audience would support europeans. In football they would support asian teams against european, because "we" are dominating football. This is about sportmanship, not nationalism. Lol.

I've rewatched this game a couple of times. Many people blamed Jung Jae Sung for the loss. I thought Lee Yong Dae's 3 errors in the end of second game was more to blame. More important, I believe it is Korean team's smash defense led to the loss. As a Chinese, I've been frustrated by Li/Liu's flat saves against smash that lead to more and more advantage to their opponents. Now I know the root of the techniques. It is great at the beginning of the match that one can defend the smash with flat, short return, intend to regain upper hand during drive. But when the pressure is on, and the physical strength is depleted, these flat return will give the opponents more advantages. Go watch Chinese men's double player's smash defense and you will understand what I mean. I believe this is why the Koreans has not won Olympics the last few tries although their players were top the rankings. Chinese men's team were able to win with the same smash defense is not because their smash defense were better, but because China has the best men's double player in Fu Haifeng. Many people remembered Fu Haifeng's powerful smash, but many are not giving him in keeping the pressure to the opponents no matter how good the returns are.
