+Qanh Musicz Head voice indeed. The ringing quality (which she possesses into the 7th octave) is just glorious. My favorite song from Memoirs. A #1 hit for a different time.
Great video. And you are correct in saying the nodules prevent her from accessing head voice much as they keep her from the necessary cord closure to produce it frequently. She sounded operatic when using head voice when she was singing happy birthday to B. Scott. Towards the end when she sang the name Scott. It was an A5 I believe.
Amazing video! :). Such a great idea as well. I think 'Loverboy' has some harmonized falsetto notes C6 and above too, by the way. I could be wrong though, so don't quote me on that! lol.
Thanks! I'm surprised that no one makes video about this! (even though Thi Hills just uploaded a similar video a few days ago before mine xD) I don't hear anything... can you give me the exact time? :)
I think it was C6. It's kinda impossible to descend that fast from C7 to such low falsetto. Of course I'm aware that she's capable of doing that. But I still lean towards the C6 side!
The first note was probably C#6. The second one may be D6, idk xD Why didn't you make a video about it? I'm sure no one knew that note. I didn't even know that remix existed!
I don't really know. That's why I always write them as "Head Voice/Falsetto" so I don't have to distinguish them lol. But like, HV should have a thicker, "rounder" (if that makes sense) quality to it. Falsetto is usually softer, airier. But things can get more confusing when singers can sing the falsetto a bit twangy so it sounds thicker, stronger to resemble head voice.
Supposedly women have head voice and men have falsetto. 🤷♂️ in the case of Mariah its the same register, but lower and airier (like she does in the verses) or higher and more piercing (like in this video).
max hamley No it's isn't, the highest note that Mariah has ever hit in head voice is a D6. Anything else above that ha always been hit with either a falsetto or whistle register for Mariah
Definately not, her head voice is less common, but extremely distinctive, if it was whistle or falsetto, it would be a lot more airy and the whistle tone has that whistle texture. She's sustained G6s in head voice and there is that B6 which I mentioned before.
max hamley she has NEVER sung a G6 in head voice, Mariah's head voice only extends up to D6. Secondly whistles don't always have to be airy, it just depends on the stylistic choice of the artist.
max hamley All those notes you listed are in whistles not head voice. Mariah's head voice has always been extremely underdeveloped thanks to nodules. Because of that she lacks the technique/connected range to extend it above D6 which is why she relies on a disconnected falsetto/whistle register to hit her notes above D6.
It's weird to me how she sustains her weakest register the longest but in her strong belting register she pretty much loses the grip of the notes and has trouble sustaining
Sustaining a high head voice is different than sustaining a high belt. It requires different mechanism and effort. In head voice your vocal cords are more loosely touching than when you're belting where your vocal cords are a lot more compact. Not to mention the stamina you need to belt and sing a high head voice is quite different. It doesn't mean both are easy tho. Also, she can sustain these high belts if she actually lightening her belts more (and using mixing techniques) instead of doing a full belt sound.
Again, I still think her head voice is the weakest part which is often not well supported or connected. Her head voice limit is like C#6 after which she often directly switches to the falsetto or even the whistle from top chest.
I've made it very clear that I really don't find Mariah's head register great in terms of the sound it self. I mean it was fine to me around 1990/1994 but after that it honestly went down hill. But wow I love that her vocal range without her whistle register is still very wide 4 octaves F2-F6.
I agree. Her head voice has never been great. 1993 was definitely her head voice peak. Since Merry Christmas album, she's mostly used falsetto instead. And I'm not even sure those upper notes here are all falsetto/HV xD It could be whistle, but it's really hard to tell...
This video is simply fantastic and it was REALLY interesting! I'm sure you forgot some notes unfortunately but since I have issues to distinguish her head voice register from her whistle register in the 6th octave most of the times the real problem for me is...what is her highest HEAD VOICE note????? XDXDXD Seriously I wanna know!!!!!! T________T
I seriously don't know either! Many notes here could possibly be whistle x( The F6 here sounded a bit like whistle, but the other part of the run was definitely HV so I assumed it to be executed in head voice anyways :)) There is another video on YT said her highest head/falsetto note was G#6 but I'm sure it was whistle.
What is the video? Can you tell me please? Anyway I don't understand... When it comes to Xtina and Ariana everybody want to point out how much disconnected are their vocal ranges and when it comes to Mariah...nobody seems to know what is her real connected vocal range. Why do people want to talk about only the bad things? T_T
anything f6 and above is definitely a whistle, though opera singers can hit higher in head voice due to operatic training. the tone of her head voice is less husky than her whistles

the C6 from It's A Wrap is what I'd imagine heaven would sound like 😍
I agree! It is so beautiful 😍
True :)
I think It's a wrap C6's are the best falsetto notes she's ever done
I thought it was head voice? I mean, it sounded so connected! But I agree! It's so iconic!
Qanh Musicz I don't know the difference lol. I agree though, they are iconic :)
+Qanh Musicz Head voice indeed. The ringing quality (which she possesses into the 7th octave) is just glorious. My favorite song from Memoirs. A #1 hit for a different time.
Mariah Carey Fan imo it's definitely head voice, the note itself is way too full and connected to be falsetto :)
Definitely head voice. I can’t go higher than C6 in head voice as of now. After that it’s whistle register which starts after about D6.
The editing is very good!!!!!!!
Thank you! xD
You Need Me >>>>>>> Love the fullness of her head voice in that song.
I love that note too! 😍
Her falsetto is the best!
Thank you! I like that A5, even though it was just an exclamation. If only she did that seriously in her song.
this is one of the reason why it's hard to sing a Mariah song!!
got that right
"YOU GOT ME"...love that song!
Great Video!
My favourite live ones she has ever done were the extended head notes in Infinity at Michael and Kelly's! They are just to die for!
I like how she improvised it longer than the studio verison. But it sounded kinda dry to me. Still amazing tho!
Songbird Supreme but the walmart shareholders performance was amazing. She sounded like a dolphin.
It's so hard to sing Fantasy, I still believe,...
I love Mariah, her head voice is appreciable but sometimes very dry and weird. Anyway great vid lamb ! :)
+Deyann Crété thanks! I really like her texture there 😙
Amazing video! :). Such a great idea as well. I think 'Loverboy' has some harmonized falsetto notes C6 and above too, by the way. I could be wrong though, so don't quote me on that! lol.

I don't hear anything... can you give me the exact time? :)
She sings like an angel
2:02 the Heavenly C6 notes are actually C7 whistle notes. I don't know why people mistake them as C6s. Nice video btw. Truly underrated
+Elizabeth Rey The C6 are harmonized with C7. If you listen closely, you can hear that there are 2 notes at the same time.
I think it was C6. It's kinda impossible to descend that fast from C7 to such low falsetto. Of course I'm aware that she's capable of doing that. But I still lean towards the C6 side!
Qanh Musicz I understand what you mean.. But it sounds like a high whistle you know?
Qanh Musicz It seems like there is a C6 note overlapping a C7. There are a harmonization here.
+Elizabeth Rey It's a weird-sounding note! But it sounded more like a head note to me.
Everything about this woman is heavenly!! 😍
just WOW!!
I guess that Mariah has the best 6th octave
I think you're gonna get mad when i say this haha but you forgot the E6 in Get Your Number 😂 It's actually head voice (not whistle nor falsetto).
Really!? Why do I always have to forget something? xD
Qanh Musicz Hahahah it's ok really
The smoothest falsetto
You need me was an A5.... Bring on the heart break was and A or B5 if im not mistaken....And the fantasy was an B5
in you need me is an A5-C6, in bring on the heartbreak is an C6(peak) and in fantasy is an B5-C6(short)
Why this video is so underrated?
Great video as always! I love Mariah.
Thanks! Me too! 😍
me too
Good job more more anything and anyone for Mariah i support
She did a F6 head voice in Emotions rainbow tour
Can you link me that clip? I don't think she would go that high into her head voice during Rainbow era.
@@QanhMusicz She hit multiple 6th octave notes in head voice after the lipped the whistle run. Search for thi hills growled vocal range
I Just Love This Vid ♡
Thanks!
The F#6 in 'Triumphant' is actually in super head voice
to think that some of my fave singer's highest notes are just Mariah's falsettoes and hv
She also hits some sweet notes in the Loverboy remix
/watch?v=ToqAaNe3Rrg
(4:54 and 5:16)
Fuuuck!!!! It sounded so good! Why haven't I heard that before? 😱
Qanh Musicz Did you measure the notes lol
The first note was probably C#6. The second one may be D6, idk xD
Why didn't you make a video about it? I'm sure no one knew that note. I didn't even know that remix existed!
Qanh Musicz too lazyy
which remix is this?

Any tips on how to tell the difference between Head voice and falsetto? They sound so similar to me
I don't really know. That's why I always write them as "Head Voice/Falsetto" so I don't have to distinguish them lol.

Qanh Music Thank you for replying!! Love the video. It seems harder to tell with different artists. I agree head voice sounds more full and connected.
Qanh Music Happy New Year!

People don't realise this, but the B6 at the end of 'Camoflage' in stacatto isn't whislte, it's head voice

E6 in 'All My Life'
F6 in 'HATEU'
F#6 in 'Triumphant' (yes it is super head voice, not whistle)
G6 in 'When Christmas Comes'
B6 in 'Camoflage'

What is that #Beautiful remix?
+Lichy Guevara it's the version she performed at BET Awards ☺️
Qanh Music Yaaaas! But is it official or just and improvised intro?
It's weird to me how she sustains her weakest register the longest but in her strong belting register she pretty much loses the grip of the notes and has trouble sustaining

That's because it's head voice

Alexmax9295 her highest head voice note is G#6

Lies F6 can't be sung in head voice only in whistle notes.
Her F6 here may or may not in head voice, I'm not sure about that. But you can sing in F6 or even higher both in head voice and whistle voice.
Bullshit. Head voice can extend to the *7th octave* if you don't know.
@@ThiHills do u know any videos of singers reaching 7th octave in head voice?
Lisa fischer??
