Liverpool fan here. Utmost respect to Alonso for staying in Leverkusen, the club that gave him his first shot at senior management! He owes it to the management and fans of Leverkusen to at least stay for another season or two and hopefully win more trophies with them esp. being in the Champions League next season.

Think theres too many in the comments with very poor insight here. Xabi Alonso is extremely settled at leverkusen who feels his journey is not completed yet and may feel a champions league run/ title defense next season is possible. Alonso has also rejected a move to bayern and he may feel hes not ready for a move to a big european club and that has to be respected. This isnt case of a manager rejecting clubs, this is about a young manager wanting to progress at his own pace and theres nothing wrong about that whatsoever

Maybe Alonso need one more season in Leverkusen before coming to a huge club like Liverpool, but who else ? I mean first manager after Klopp is almost bound to disappoint. is time this club should get an Italian manager, like Conte for examples, he knows how to defend, we need more tactics than tecnical players in defence, second the Italian managers don't overtrain players, the schedule is already crazy and we need to prioritize the wealth of the players, it means light training, more tactics work, less physical work and more work on the ball and techniques. we will have less injury and we will not miss the big players in crucial games or for two months or so.

Edwards is in charge so I am not worried. Obviously gutted Xabi won't be coming but I get the feeling the Madrid job is waiting for him. Guaranteed trophies with the team he is inheriting so it will give him time to gain more experience, fully expect him to manage us one day if all goes well for him.
Amorim is my no. 1 after him or inzaghi but I don't think he wants to leave Italy. My only real big issue with Amorim is that it's a huge jump from Portugal to PL.

As a Liverpool fan I was neither here nor there in regard to Xabi Alonso. Every appointment has risk. If he came great, if not good luck to him. Maybe he comes later. I don’t agree with the argument the club is too big at this moment in time. Mikel Arteta didn’t have senior managerial experience before picking up the Arsenal job. Who ever gets the job has a big role to fill. I select a manager on style of play rather than reputation.
