I had the pleasure of watching Dalglish from day one of his Liverpool career. It's hard to describe just how good he was. People say that he wasn't the quickest, but mentally he was 10 seconds quicker than anyone else. He knew what he was going to do long before he got the ball. The thing that stands out for me though is his love of playing. His work rate was incredible, and he left everything on the pitch, game after game. You can only do that consistently if you love what you're doing. And when he scored, his face would light up, it would light up the whole support. Kenny would be great in any era.

I agree spent the summer worrying now that Kegan had left. Saw sir king Kenny score his first kop end goal and your right
As we cheered his goal he looked up with that big grin and some how the level of our joy went up.
I broke my neck in karate [thanks to sensi billy Higgins saved my life] night before Paris final I was paralysed so the nurses pushed my bed
Down the ward cranked up the back of the bed so that I could watch the match. I was drifting in and out but managed to catch the goal. Weird
Wanting to jump up and down to scream and you can’t move. Never been to a game since. But my first game with my dad was 62-63 season. Age 3
And my last drive will go past the ground one last time.

I recommend anyone who loves football, try and find clips of Dalglish playing in the 82-83 season in particular. He was just immense that year, at his absolute zenith, and some of the skill he produced throughout that season was as good as you will see from any individual in any season, and after more than 40 years, I still haven't seen anyone do better (possible exception: John Barnes in 87/88). But he also fitted those skills into the ethic of the team flawlessly, and that was why Liverpool won the title in an absolute canter that year.
Dalglish's greatest asset was his football brain. Any time he was taking on a defender with back to goal at the edge of the area, you could always see his mind was at least two moves ahead of the defender's, and that was what made the Liverpool attack gel around him. A lay-off to a midfielder, or a driven switch-of-play across field, or a quick turn and through-ball to use Rush's pace, or a sudden 180-degree turn on a sixpence and well-timed snapshot at goal. He could do any of them, and therefore defenders could never predict which one he was going to do.
I rate Dalglish above the over-hyped Platini, hands-down.

Dalglish made his debut for Celtic at the age of 17 in 1968 and left at 27 on 1977. While he saw his peak years at Liverpool, it is often forgotten just how much of his career was spent at Celtic. He was already captain and a veteran player when he left to join Liverpool. He replaced Kevin Keegan - a brilliant player in his own right - but few Liverpool fans knew then what Celtic fans already knew: King Kenny was even better.

Dalglish is rated as the best Liverpool player of all-time by the fans. The man was exceptional and I would like to know how many assists he set up for Rush and others back in the the day. Started asking the forwards if they're keeping track of the shadows and not even the Junior Coach knew what to say and afterwards said that wasn't abything that would ever be in training. 99.9% of players simply cannot do first touch and keep track of opponent shadows (positional sense) at the same time.

I saw Liverpool's glory days in the 70s and 80s and I say to everyone if Kenny had not resigned in the way he did back in 1991 (and anyone with an ounce of human compassion would have done the same thing) Man United would not have got a sniff of any league titles, he was that good as a player, player/manager and, then lastly, as a manager.

As a youngster growing up in the late 70's early 80's Kenny Dalglish was worlds apart from anybody else in the league at that time. Dalglish wouldnt have been out of place in a worlds greatest 11. He was easily on a par with the likes of Zico, Platini, Boniek he was that good. Not even comparable to Keegan, Kenny was levels above. Well done Kenny, you deserve the accolades for your contribution to our wonderful game. I personally think that Graeme was the greatest Liverpool player there has been. Liverpool won 12 major trophies between 1978-1984 when he played for them. He gave Liverpool a psychological edge on the pitch which almost guaranteed success. Ian Rush said that going onto the pitch with Graeme in your team was like going into a school playground with your big brother.
He was as important to Liverpool on the pitch as Sir Alex was to Man Utd off the pitch. Both clubs owe their success to these two.

Souness focuses on what I always thought made Dalglish unique - ball to feet in the box and he could turn the defender and get off a shot. Only other player I've seen like him was Gerd Muller but I didnt see him that much. Of course there was more to his game than that byu that was what put him the highest class.

King Kenny is a football legend before the word legend was invented. And it's not the on field success that granted that title. Its what he did for the people after Hillsborough. It broke him so much that he was never the same after. No other footballer or manager has sacrificed so much at his own behest.
