The debate needs to be contextualised. For starters, when Owen becomes established Fowler was already out of his peek due to injuries. I mean Origi regularly benched Sturridge when the latter was not in his peak. Would he had benched peak Sturridge. This is not likely at all. If he was looking to go to Liverpool after leaving Newcastle and the first person he phoned is Brendan Rodgers, it's unsurprising he never ended ended up there. Rodgers was Swansea manager.
They did have some different attributes, Robbie was a better finisher, better at free kicks and penalties, better passer. But Michael was a very good finisher, very agile and had that ridiculous pace which he used to dribble through defences. I think it hurts Robbie that he felt replaced, in many respects he was unfortunate though, for Liverpool he was injured around the time Michael breaks through and Houlier focused more on the quick counter which suited Owen. For England he was competing with Shearer who was established as the number 9, by the time Owen is around Shearer is started to slow down and operate more in a hold up role.
England claimed Owen first and Fowler was perceived more as one of their own by the Reds than Owen. Have to say Fowler came across a bit jealous of Owen's progress when they played together, 'rarely' passed the ball to him (it seemed), whilst Owen on his emergence was always reverent to Fowler.
@@mafiosol_buenavida He didn't need to win a bollock d'or. He scored more Liverpool goals, was the better natural finisher and his untarnished status as a Liverpool legend is worth way more than little micky owen's cheesy little bollock d'or.
Peak Fowler (95-98) before the cruciate ligament injury was one of the most lethal finishers you would ever see. By the time Owen broke through, Fowler was slightly in decline, still a great finisher but having lost a yard of pace. With Houllier playing counter attack football the pace of Owen was more suitable to that style of play. I'd take peak Fowler over peak Owen but both players at their peak were amazing.
Owen won ballon dor and reached his full potential before the injuries imo. Fowler had a god given talent and could have been the best striker in the world but was a bit of a party boy
Owen is a yes man. Howard Webb and Tierney should be sacked. It's cost Liverpool points over the past few seasons and let's not talk about Howard's 'gifts' of fancy watches from sir Alex. Liverpool will win this league even if VAR, refs and pgmol are against us. True faith and love always wins over corruption. YNWA.
Paul Tomkins' piece on Tierney is eye-opening and needs more promotion. The stats are damning for both Tierney and the PGMOL. Frankly, it is a must-read piece if you love football and hate VAR.

Two totally different players. For counter attacking then Owen had more pace so would be better fit & that’s what Houllier wanted. For pure ability to finish then you’d pick fowler out of the two to be in current LFC side. As for who did the manager pick - same one that picked Diouf over Anelka so his judgement wasn’t always spot on
I’m 37 and have been a Liverpool fan all my life. I loved fowler as a kid. My eldest son is called Robbie. I don’t get however why fowler and Owen are even entertaining this question of who was better. They never peaked at the same time so they arnt really comparable. Naughty of Owen to say who did manager pick, that was down to style of play. One thing fowler never did though was play for that rabble down the road. As a Liverpool fan fowler gets the love. As for who was better…. Loved em both when they were scoring for the reds. One final point Rafa brought fowler back but not Owen… so who did the manager pick then micheal?
Not really, mate. Fowler had these other strikers about Wright, shearer ferdinand Cole collymore Sheringham.. Owen had heskey and Alan Smith to compete with for England more than enough said. Points deserve context mate 👍
Good answer Michael even i think Fowler was a more technical player but you had the speed so i don't know why you two did not make a better partnership
I am bias as Owen is my favourite ever player after I watched 98 as 7yr old and idolized him ever since. But he was better. What has Robbie done that Owen didnt do? Owen was in the top 5 strikers in the world between 99-2002. Had he chosen United over Liverpool as a kid he would have been even better. I dont care that he went to Man U. Good on him for winning a title.

Fowler was a better finisher than Owen. By a mile.
If he was looking to go to Liverpool after leaving Newcastle and the first person he phoned is Brendan Rodgers, it's unsurprising he never ended ended up there. Rodgers was Swansea manager.
Rodgers was at Reading I think when Owen played for us biggest mistake the clubs done buying that fraud
Owen has become a bit of a comedy figure but he was absolutely electric
fowler scratched the 30 goals mark 2 times... you michael never scored more than 20 prem goals a season. not to mention that fake ballon dor.. jeez
Liverpool fan here. Only one of these strikers was called God, and it was Fowler. Love him. Doesn't help that Michael is just kind of...unlikable. 😅
Big difference is Owen did it on the international stage whereas Fowler's best days were domestically. Both were world class strikers at their best.
Nah Fowler was judge by where he was from! Fowler was one of best natural finishers ever
@@QTmodz-Projects That's not disputed, however did he win a ballon d'or?
One was called God , the other wasn’t ! Speaks volumes
Owen couldn't paint fowlers toenail!!!
FOWLER was the better player
Owen will get us 10 goals in a season but score 2 in a Final. Robbie Fowler was an honorary BRAZILLIAN
10 goals? U do realise he won 2 golden boots? How many fowler get ?
Owen is a yes man. Howard Webb and Tierney should be sacked. It's cost Liverpool points over the past few seasons and let's not talk about Howard's 'gifts' of fancy watches from sir Alex. Liverpool will win this league even if VAR, refs and pgmol are against us. True faith and love always wins over corruption. YNWA.
Prime Owen vs Prime Fowler
Owen all day long!
Paul Tomkins' piece on Tierney is eye-opening and needs more promotion. The stats are damning for both Tierney and the PGMOL. Frankly, it is a must-read piece if you love football and hate VAR.
Prime Owen is underrated. Absolutely lethal. Big game player.
People talk so much h about fowler but he wasn’t starter for Liverpool, he wasn’t starter for England.
Owen needs to stop saying Brendan signed David N'gog lol Rafa signed him
Lifelong Liverpool fan from the city -- if you take them both at their absolute prime it's Fowler for me. Owen was incredible but Fowler just had absolutely everything - scored all stupid types of goals with both feet from everywhere on the pitch.
Nunez and owen in his prime with salah on the left would be formidable
Fowler all day ❤
Sometimes liverpool fans say fowler because he meant more to them fans dockers strike ck t shirt local lad etc. But owen in 98 wc was something else also fa cup final. But fowler better before injuries
Fowler scored more goals for Liverpool than Owen did and was EASILY the better finisher. End of discussion.
Fowler was better for longer.
Owen got 89 caps and 40 goals at international level. Fowler scored 7 international goals. Nuff said
Not really, mate. Fowler had these other strikers about Wright, shearer ferdinand Cole collymore Sheringham.. Owen had heskey and Alan Smith to compete with for England more than enough said. Points deserve context mate 👍
What 😂😂
Folwer scored 30+ goals twice and owen never did that once
Also fowler got more assists.
Enough said
Good answer Michael even i think Fowler was a more technical player but you had the speed so i don't know why you two did not make a better partnership
It don't matter what Michael thinks. I can tell you 99% of lfc fans know who the better player was and it was god.
"had the keeper not saved that, it would have been a definite goal" Michael Owen
One was a Ballon d’Or winning global super⭐️
One was a local hero.
Hmmm I wonder which was better🤔
The one who didnt do cocaine
Fowler was God. His chemistry with Steve McManaman was SPEZIAL
How do you ‘literally’ blow teams away?
😮
Owen was levels ahead of this
Imagine Owen and Gary Barlow in the same room. F*ck me 😴
Fowler is “God” and I’m more fond of him as a Liverpool legend. However, when Owen was on form he was unplayable and was so clinical! I’d take prime Owen over Fowler!
He has big Ego! He didn’t wanna talk about who’s better But after he heard fowler interview he got sensitive and offended couldn’t resist to respond.
People prefer Robbie because he's more honest
The manager is one man, ask the fans who they think was the best. Fowler was the man thats why we called him God.
