    So cool that Pete brought Phil Daniels in! He played Jimmy in the Quad film. I didn't realize he could sing.

    • @BillyJango
      @BillyJango 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Sue DeSimone He was great as Jimmy but he always wanted to be a singer rather than an actor but his band never got anywhere. In his book it says he wishes he'd never done Quadrophenia because its all people ever associate him with and he doesn't like it.

      Billy Jango oh no! Really? That’s so sad. He was perfect as Jimmy! Sorry it took four years to reply to your comment! Lol

    After turning Tommy inside out with all the different interpretations, it was inevitable Quadrophenia would get the same treatment. I love The Who, I love classical music, I'm just a bit nervous that Pete is letting his masterpiece be taking in a new direction. It may be fantastic, it may not. I'll check it out and decide when I hear it in it's entirety.

    Reminds me a lot of the London Symphony Orchestra doing "Tommy" with guest singers. Over all, I like it because you can hear the orchestral works in many of Pete Townshend's songs. At times though, I do miss the electric guitar, bass, and the drums to add the anger and frustration in Pete's music.

    Can't wait to be at Royal Albert Hall in July! Quadrophenia is one of the best albums ever made, i have no doubt that they are going to boom it and this classical version will not disappoint Quadrophenia's fans at all!

    It's a good thing they were able to find six or seven percussionists because it takes that many to replace one Kieth Moon, who would have been here himself if he weren't busy trashing a Holiday Inn in Flint Michigan.

  • @isaiahangelo
    @isaiahangelo 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Rachel's comments on not having a drummer is basically a pretentious way of saying, "No drummer on earth but Keith Moon could've played this the way it deserved if we would've went with a drummer." Also, Pete as much as I love and adore him, has a tough time giving Roger Daltrey proper credit for being the best vocal interpreter of his work because he composes his songs in high keys that sometimes leave the singing of them as a deceptive afterthought. If they were lower in key Roger couldn't have added the sincerity, emotionalism and guts that he did to Pete's lyrics

    • @Natopera

      "... If they were lower in key Roger couldn't have added the sincerity, emotionalism and guts..." That's not the key a song is in, that's the singer!

    • @4orrcountry
      @4orrcountry 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Horse manure! Pete has NO such problem whatsoever. All kinds of video o line where Pete lauds Roger as THE only singer with the voice, brains and personality to bring the edge that Pete seeks in the music he writes.

    • @christinecollins6648
      @christinecollins6648 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Roger and Moon are irreplaceable. However, is that the motivation- I think know- he’s throwing this show and sidelining the drummer to see if there’s anything else there

    This is wonderful and an orchestral Quadrophenia is really suitable with the Wagnerian influence but it will never touch the 1973 album which in my opinion is the best music ever performed. A drummer is a greyhound in a trap???

  • @jacksons.9651

    I was able to view the Royal Albert Hall presentation on PBS. Way too many strings, horns & choir. Pretentious.Unfortunately all the brilliance of the original Quad is lost. Ms. F. is a fine pianist. Orchestrator? Perhaps in the newest incarnation of classic Quad, soon to arrive for limited engagement in the states, an experienced orchestrator can be commissioned to supervise & contribute to the production.

  • @pmadamson
    @pmadamson 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes Pete, Film Music came long after Classical Music (1750-1830) which is why the Musician's can play with the Rock syncopation as in films. Classical Music is less syncopated because it was from the 18th century. It's nothing to do with them being young. Great album though and Rachel has done a great job orchestrating it in a non Classical style. It is Classic,not Classical.

    I would've preferred to hear Daltrey's voice on this, to be honest. But apart from that, I almost prefer this orchestral arrangement to the original.
    I was never a fan of the horn section on the album, and I always wished that The Who would've either kept it strictly band-focused or hired
    an orchestra to provide the music for them. And finally, this has happened. With the wrong singer... :(

      mikeb33 I'm with you. This style of singing just doesn't belong here. Sort of like a polka band covering Metallica, or Metallica covering a polka... either way... it's just not working. No one would really want to hear a reggae version of "My Generation" either. The orchestration sounds great, but I'd rather hear it with a "rock" singer. I'd like to hear a great rock drummer in the mix as well. Greyhound? Hmmmm... Still would like to have a drummer.
