- Alexander Jocheles playing pieces by Bach and chorale transcriptions by Busoni. Jocheles (1912-1978) studied with Konstantin Igumnov. He taught at the Moscow and Tbilisi Conservatories and the Gnessin Academy. Oleg Maisenberg was one of his students. Despite the distortion on this LP rip, it's worth hearing for the rare repertoire and the excellent playing of this neglected pianist. Recording date unknown but probably towards the end of his life (LP released in 1977). Timing and pieces below:

Jocheles can actually make me cry - because of the sensitivity and the depth of his playing. I also admire Busoni.
Jocheles was wonderful, but underrated. Hearing this, one understands, why a number of young pianists are beginning to look to the great pianists of the past.

Alexander Jocheles ist große Klasse. Ausdruck und Phrasierung sind absolut stimmig. Schade, dass er so wenig bekannt ist.

Although he failed to win the 1932 Chopin International Competition, he was an excellent pianist. By the way, the cadenza he composed for the first movement of Beethoven's Concerto No. 1 is interesting.
There were so much pianists of the past, known only in a small circle of specialists, without having the possibilities to record their repertoire for a greater public. Especially in the former SU. Horowitz, Gilels and Richter were not the only russian piano masters.

+ADGO There was a Bach-Jocheles CD issued by a Russian record company "Vista Vera". Do seek it out (it's out-of-print, but can be found on eBay). The program was different from the LP you posted.
The original LP is dated 1972.
ADGO! Would it, perhaps possible to find even more recordings with this wonderful pianist? On CD, perhaps?
I hope to find live recordings of his one day.
