Old school pianists amazing technic heart taking depth just the right tempo perfect musicality I can not stop listening and wondering what a magnificent piece
Agreed! I've spent 18 months just getting my head around the prelude, no way I could even consider that speed for the fugue. I thought the prelude was masterfully interpreted though, so much colour and dynamics, very reminiscant of Breams version i thought?
Although he failed to win the 1932 Chopin International Competition, he was an excellent pianist. By the way, the cadenza he composed for the first movement of Beethoven's Concerto No. 1 is interesting.
I had never heard of Alexander Jocheles before today. 997 happens to be my favorite Bach suite, so I listen to it where I find it. I had to slow down the playback on the gigue/double, and by then I was completely not surprised that his fingering was perfect. Where did you find a recording of such high quality? I don't think any record in my possession doesn't have pops and squeals, so hearing this without background defects was a pleasant surprise.
Wow, a great pianist and wonderful transcription! So sorry there is no score. But the original on imslp is playable for piano without transcription and with a lot of listening and creativity the transcription can be estimated.
I don't want to talk about the pianist, his interpretation of this famous piece is masterful, I rather want to say something about the relationship between the music and the instrument. I much prefer the guitar to the piano, the sweetness of his timbre fits perfectly, I would say enzymatically, with Bach's music.
Margo Beloved They've promised Vol. 2, but so far nothing ... Somebody posted material from an old Russian LP here - more Bach. Check it out :) Thank you for all the wonderful music you post !
Same here. I am waiting for vol.2 so long. Thanks ADGO, he shares so many treasures ! and thanks for your comment, please listen to his Falla. Best wishes, Margo :)
Margo Beloved He once made an arrangement of the Hammerklavier sonata for piano and orchestra. Three great Russian piano professors - Neuhaus, Goldenweiser and Igumnov (Jocheles'a teacher) were present at the premiere of this transcription (in 1947) and thought it was amazing. But Jocheles refused to publish it, saying something to the effect that the time of such transcriptions had passed ... I know there is a recording of it somewhere !
Like we need more pseudo-Chopinesque interpretations of Baroque music in general and of Bach in particular. It's a testament to Bach's greatness that this kind of performance doesn't automatically invalidate his music.
Maybe the musician with the most musical sensibility I’ve ever heard. Tempo, cadence… the melody just floats in a bed of harmony
Love how he harmonized the prelude
That's the most beautiful rendition of the prelude I've ever heard.
Heart the version of Angelina Mascardi on the lute, plaise...
But this romantic version on piano IS very very beautiful...
I think Yunchan Lim from South Korea has many things in common with this pianist, which is quite rare.
Great pianists of the past who remain in the shadows of history, thanks for this !!!!!!
Old school pianists amazing technic heart taking depth just the right tempo perfect musicality I can not stop listening and wondering what a magnificent piece
what an amazing interpetation of the prelude the best ever...takes the time in paradiso
I can see shapes and colours listening to this with eyes closed! Power!
Synesthesia!
Do you listen to it on Acid? I do 🥰
most beautiful emotional 997prelude
Lovely playing and recording. It's wonderful to get away from a Steinway's febrile brilliance for this music.
Many, many, thanks beloved Margo Beloved. What a delight. Live a long, long time.
Such a great pianist !!! And what a magnificent piece of Bach's music !
Exquisite music. Exquisite playing! Thank you for opening my heart!🌺
CDs are available - such as Disc number in the directory: MEL CD 1001749
Release: 2010 - but due to the current situation - probably hard to get.
It could not be more beautiful and expressively played.
A pianist of the times past! Thanks, I needed it! Wonderful
Buen arreglo y gran interpretación.
Thank you Margo. You have exquisite taste.
Pianista maravilhoso!

love it, my daily music, isn't it a prayer ?
Brilliant interpretation!
Beautiful!
This is truly wonderful!
NO PARO DE LLORAR....VEOTANTO SUFRIMIENTO EN SU ROSOTRO...GRACIAS POR TANTO MAESTRO.
When everybody plays that prelude as fast as they can you got to be gangsta AF to roll it that slow.
Interesting interpretation, I play this on classical guitar and there’s no way i’m playing the fugue that fast! Anyways, beautiful performance.
Agreed! I've spent 18 months just getting my head around the prelude, no way I could even consider that speed for the fugue. I thought the prelude was masterfully interpreted though, so much colour and dynamics, very reminiscant of Breams version i thought?
I'm training a lot to get to that speed, but I think it's still possible.

Hey there, where can I find and read more about Alexander Jocheles?
Slow or fast, Bach is wonderfull

Interpretazione puramente romantica
perfect
such a wonderful performance - is he well known as a pianist ? Is he still alive ?
Wow, a great pianist and wonderful transcription! So sorry there is no score. But the original on imslp is playable for piano without transcription and with a lot of listening and creativity the transcription can be estimated.
This is keyboard music
Any link to sheet music?

interpretazione commovente, perfetta, un po' "otherwordly".....
1,75 speed does the trick for me.
Is this from the Vista Vera CD ?
Yes

Too fast. The subject is sinister and dark but not when it’s played this fast
What is wrong with the fugue
