Well said. I have the original Pocket, AND the Pocket 3 and I don't use any filters, ever, on either of them. They are sufficiently well designed and engineered to deliver perfectly good quality video without the need for the extra expense and kerfuffle of add-on filters. Those who swear by them can keep them. Good for them. I'm perfectly happy with my unadorned Pocket 3's lens!
I use the K&F Koncept variable ones. I have them both in the magnetic slot in the case for those special occasions I need to be capture the natural motion blur. I also use the Mist filter from K&F which is thin enough to let the gimbal lock itself when you turn it off.
If you're shooting outside during the day with the OP3, then yes you should use ND filters if you want to capture natural motion blur. But, if you don't mind the jittering effects of a high shutter speed setting, then sure do whatever you want.
Whoever said that doing stuff right has to be easy? In this video I can clearly see the janky-cranky digital effect of no motion blur. If that's what you like - fine. But, I think that the whole Pocket-3 is flawed and too much like hard work. Try actually putting it in "your pocket" regularly and find out what fails first: The gimbal (VERY fragile, as on my M4P, but that never gets put away without the protector on), or, the gimbal through the ingestion of "pocket lint" (dust). And don't even think of using it in the rain... I just bought the Action-4 due to its resistance to dust and water, and I will be using ND filters. But, each to their own.
Unfortunately I learned today that I should have taken my ND filter. I filmed an entire day on the OP3. I found the shutter speed caused a choppy effect since it was bright sunlight most of the day
@@SCGjustin I have a pack of filters from K&F. It has 1-5 stop and 6-9 stop VND plus a mist and a CPL. I can't see me using any other than the 1-5 stop
I’m team no ND filter on my zve1. Let the shutter crank to astronomical levels. For content creation, it’s not worth the hassle. Unfortunately, negativity gets much more clicks and views then positivity, it be like that. I’m with you, keep it simple and minimize the amount of “setup” you need to do. Nice b roll at the end, nice video!
Day shooting: auto shutter, auto ISO (max 1600) white balance auto, but I switch to manual and lock it. Night shooting: Manual: shutter 1/50 (I shoot 24fps), auto iso (max 1600), same process for white balance. I can do a video explaining more detail.
Your angle on this is very real...to be fair, ND filters does make the video more 'cinematic' by following the 180-degree rule, but let's face it - how many of us have the time to put the ND filters on when wanting to get footage on the go...moreover, for 90% of the time like home videos - there's honestly no need for ND filters but if you're making a film or some sort of artistic video log then perhaps planning these shoots with the ND filters on for the 'cinematic' look and feel with background motion blur etc is the way to go...my advice would be only buy ND filters when you have the spare cash to put them in your bag for the special occasions - as only for home videos, I seldom bring them out like you said!
I agree with you. I have ND filters but to use them properly you need to use manual settings and make adjustments every time lighting conditions change. Too much effort for a camera that is supposed to be quick and easy. If you are into making short films and cinematic stuff then Filters are great. I frequent Disney World and I wish we had those little robots. So Cool!
I dont use filters on mine but I also don't use filters on my mirrorless cameras as I can take photos without them! I have no time for the so called influencers, if anything they put me off buying many products.
You're right. Sure if people are shooting professionally, the expectation is for professional "cinematic" footage. BUT for folks trying to capture memories of trips or vacations or events with family or friends, capturing a spontaneous action is important (rather than missing it bcs you were changing ND filters). Just let casual users think of it as there point and shoot gimbal video camera ... don't drain the life out of it by making it overly complicated. 😉🙃
We use 2 Osmos (one each) to make our videos, we are on a World Cruise, so far we shot 61 episodes, we have 2 sets of filters and never used a single one.
Good vid man. I do own the pocket 3 and the nd filters but I agree with you. I think if the topic of your video is good most people won’t care if it’s perfectly cinematic or not. There shouldn’t be any shaming if someone chooses not to use it. I like using a filter and setting the ISO to auto. It works fine for me but I’ve shot without filters and it’s fine too.
If they didn’t make those kinds of videos they wouldn’t have any content. Kind of like this video, being triggered by what they said. You all feed off each other and the video world goes round and round :)

It is a pain to use those filters…it keeps me from using them when I should…

So true

All good points. Also, I really hope DJI will put a sensor similar to the pocket 3’s sensor in an action cam body for more durability.

Someone commented recently that I should try the k&f vnd. Might give it a try.

Haha. Thanks. I try to keep it positive. 🤙🏽
I kinda agree
Fresh, honest takes = new subs!
i also fully agree with you but was wondering. So your shutter speed, iso, and white balance are all on auto?

@@SCGjustin that would be an interesting and appreciated video!

I bought a large filter pack and the wide angle lens adaptor..haven't used them once. Too much futz for me
Don’t get me wrong, they work as advertised. Just not worth the hassle.

I fell in love with Disneyland after our first trip a couple years ago. Thanks for watching.
I am constantly worried about breaking the gimble putting on ND filters with my fat hammer fingers. Cheers man!
Maybe the pocket 4 will have a bigger head and more space to allow friction fit filters that are larger. Also, a gimbal lock feature would be great.

Agree. The filters are great and I do the auto iso thing as well. Just not when I’m on the go trying to capture moments with m family.
I find it extremely easy to put on and off
Top quality takes some effort but if that is not your goal I totally get what you are saying
Or just leave them on. I use k&f vnd with black mist
Never tried any of the vnds. You like it?
@@SCGjustin love it

Very true. There are a few ideas for videos I got from other videos and/or comments on videos.
