  • Attaching almost anything to a hollow core door including mirrors, spice racks, etc. This film shows how to use anchors to do the job. As with anything, safety first, and think the job over before you do it.

    I appreciate that there's no talking in this video or explaining why you needed a fucking spice rack in the first place (which is what a LOT of the DIY videos do now a days). Thanks for keeping it simple, informative and entertaining.

    Well, I made them. I guess that is another video. I sort of took making them for granted. Thanks for the nice compliment.

    Lol loving the tips: stay focused, hold camera upright, don't let the dog get to his treats, your situation may be different.

    NIcely done. I really liked the quick transitions between scenes. No time was wasted. And the dog subplot was a nice bonus.

    Thanks for the vid - I've been debating between toggle bolts and hollow core anchors for my project, so it was great to see these in action!

      It is hard to believe that I made this ten years ago. I had not watched it for a long time, but based on your comment, did so. Thank you for your kind note. It made my day.

    Thank you for this succinct and cute video. I bought hollow door anchors but didnt realize that they were specific to screw size (no biggie). Also my dog was after the bird treats.🐕

    There is no " thick part" of my door. Its all one thin flat piece so i dont know if this will work.

    • @GoRaWa1

      There may be doors that have no thickness, but I have never seen one. You are going to need to decide whether your door will work. Sorry I cannot be of more help.

    The video doesn't show how the spice rack attaches to the anchors.

    • @GoRaWa1
      @GoRaWa1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The bolts that came with the anchors go through holes in the spice rack, so the heads of the bolts hold the spice rack in place.

    I'm trying to mount a simple lid holder to my cabinet door. It fits, I measured, marked it, bought a drill & now I don't know how to do it so I'm trying to learn. I tried once, but wouldn't screw... kept falling (not enough force or I'm just doing it wrong). Do I have to use the plastic anchor... do I need to make a hole first before attaching screw? I have no idea what I'm doing. (My other half used to do this & he recently passed away, so I'm trying, but mounting things is not my forte.)
    Please & thank you.

    • @GoRaWa1
      @GoRaWa1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am assuming you are trying to screw the lid holder into the wood. If so, you should drill what is called a pilot hole into the wood. This pilot hole should be slightly smaller than the screw because the screw threads need to catch the wood. In other words, you need a drill bit slightly smaller than the screw threads. If you are screwing into wood, you should not need any sort of anchor. I also suggest that you view several youtube videos with searches such as drilling, screws, etc. I often check on youtube for solutions when I cannot figure things out. If you still cannot figure this out, send me another note. Good luck.

    when you say "the thick part" of the door, are you simply referring to the parts where the door doesn't go in, say, where the framey bits are? there's no place where the door material is actually more substantial than others, is there, as when you look for a stud in the wall, for instance? dumb question, i know, but i used to have a husband to do these things for me, and now i have to do them myself; i don't wish to trial-and-error this project, if you know what i mean. i'm still learning how to get the drill bit in straight. that one's tricky, and the drill's instructions are not great. (a video on this would be cool! hint, hint...)

    • @GoRaWa1
      @GoRaWa1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. I am referring to the part where the door doesn't go in. I just don't want the anchor to come out the other side. I think most of the doors these days are almost entirely hollow except for the perimeter. It is a good idea to use a small bit to see if the door has something substantial to screw into. If you happened to hit a solid piece of wood, you would use an ordinary screw rather than one of these expensive "hollow door anchors." Drilling straight is hard for anyone. I wouldn't worry too much about it in thin pieces of wood such as these doors are. You seem like a good candidate for my blog/facebook page at thehousedetective.org. It's free and the advice is for people just like you who might want to learn from all of my past and current mistakes. Good luck!

    im a little confused my home depot or lowes only sells theses for drywall they look just like the ones your using zinc plated anchor not plastic but the ones available at my stores just say drywall not hollow door anchors the same or no ?

    • @GoRaWa1
      @GoRaWa1  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It has been awhile, but I am pretty sure that this is the anchor I used. It was metal, as I recall, and it was called a hollow core door anchor.www.homedepot.com/p/E-Z-Ancor-1-1-4-in-Hollow-Door-and-Drywall-Anchors-4-Pack-25125/202055964 It worked nicely! Let me know if this isn't what you needed. Also, consider following me on TheHouseDetective.Com. Thanks!!!
