Get the 330d not this. Trust me I’ve driven my 330d for over 40,000 miles and it’s averaged 46mpg since leaving the factory. 55mpg is easy on long runs. I had a 330e for a week and I got low thirties. It was heavier and had much harder suspension. According to ‘Geoff buys cars’ you tube channel, a new battery will cost 10k!!! The 330d is quicker too and will give that performance all day long for 600 miles. The 330e has a tiny fuel tank.
Geofffff buys cars quoted 1 repair bill which is obviously not representative. You can get batteries fixed for a lot less - if they need fixing in the first place. Also bmw doesn't offer any more 3 series diesel in the uk
Geof buys cars is an anti EV nut job who doesn’t know what he’s talking about, I had a brand new tesla battery here in the U.K. when my car got flooded, cost was £8266 fitted, prices are getting cheaper all the time.
Great review! All plug in hybrids are compromised, which is a shame. The new version with longer electric range will obviously make more sense to more people,
They give me a 330i as a loaner whenever I take my 330e in for service. To me it's Jekyll and Hyde. No power until the Turbo spools up. The instant torque of the 330e's electric motor takes away the Jekyll and Hyde behavior. I drove both 330i's and M340i's and did not like either. I happened on the 330e by mistake, when I rented a car overseas and due to a reservation error, they did not have the car I reserved. They gave me a 330e and I bought one 8 months later. I wish they sold the Touring model in the US, but other than that, I'm quite pleased.
@@beb1527 First I've heard of anyone complain about any significant turbo lag in the 330i or 340i which has absolutely sublime engine. In any case both of those can be tuned up to your liking and you are not carrying extra weight penalty with you all the time. My conculsion with these PHEVs are they great on a 3 or 4 year PCP but not to own second hand for the long term. Too much to go wrong later down the line.
300,kg extra.... So compromised handling, increases fuel reduced when thiis battery pack is discharged, very high up front cost to purchase the hybrid battery ststem, more to go wrong plus battery deterioration or battery failure at a very high cost to replace... And let's not forget the reduced luggage volume. So all told it is a big backward step.. Best avoided I would say .
BS. Pre LCI G21 330e xDrive Touring weights 1965kg. Pre LCI G21 330d xDrive Touring weights 1905kg. PHEV system is 100% from Toyota, the only BMW part is clutch/gearbox coupling of electric motor. What's the percentage of 10+ years old Priuses with a failed battery? I'll tell you that, close to 0%! And despite B48B20A marking the engine in xDrive version is with 10.2:1 compression ratio so they are essentially 330i engines that can be absolutely safely tuned to over 300bhp. So with electric motor you get 400BHP car with M340i performance which leaves even M340d in dust (by the way M340d xDrive weights 1955kg or only 10kg less than 330e xDrive!)
Great video, carrying that extra weight omg, am 65yrs old and for the 1st time in my life I can't make a decision on what to buy and as regards Government advise they don't give a flying fig😂😂
Great review. It was built for company car driver tax breaks. As well as poor MPG on longer journeys, there is also the reliability issues associated with a very complicated drivetrain, and an expensive battery that will run out of life at some point.
“Expensive battery which will run out of life at some point.” As an ICE engined vehicle it burning fossil fuels. Yes the battery will run out of life at some point - but after 200,000 to 300,000 miles to reduce its state of health to 80%, it can be used as home storage for another twenty years. Then 90% of it can be recycled to make more batteries. You can’t do that with hundreds of litres of fossil fuel.
Could go on an on tho mate…. For example we have a 2023 M135i and the wife averages 37mpg in it and easily over 40 on a steady run! So that’s 310bhp and 4wd with similar economy to your 320 🤯👌
So many nonsense arguments about this car. People refuse to think or acquire actual facts. The overall fuel economy will be drastically better than either a 330i or 330d for the vast majority of drivers. The reliability concerns are nonsense. Hybrids are not some enigmatically complex machines, or a new concept. It’s a few extra parts, which then share the wear and tear with the rest of the car. I would take a PHEV with 75k miles on each powertrain over an ICE or EV with 150k miles on it any day. As for the battery, this isn’t 2010. EV batteries last a very long time, they’re backed by a 100k mile warranty almost globally, and they should last even longer in a PHEV, especially one that doesn’t use much electric in gas mode like the 330e does. Find any post about PHEV battery life on Reddit and the vast majority of responses will be people saying they’ve experience no issues and minimal degradation on heavily used vehicles.

Battery costs are shocking. Don't bother.

I agree. I struggle to get less than 50mpg on a run in my 530d.
You can’t get a 330d. Alas no more. I bought my 330d wagon a year ago. Great car.
The also discontinued M340d was better still.
Why are some of the earlier 330e models going so cheap? Replacement battery costs and poor mileage key.
Great review! All plug in hybrids are compromised, which is a shame. The new version with longer electric range will obviously make more sense to more people,
As a private buyer I’d get the 330i, good economy and performance less weight and less to go wrong later down the line.

And how much is replacement hybrid battery when car 6 years old. Probably more then car is worth. Buy a diesel or a stright petrol
No, it isn't nonsense. The batteries fail and need replacement, 6 years is a common time frame, and BMW don't see it as warranty replacement.
You can replace the individual cells, mines 6 years old and I have no issues
Scaremongering, fun at parties sort of person
55k miles on mine and I still exceed the advertised range by upwards of 20% driving normally.
Encouragement ??
Good old British understatement.
Keeping control under the weight of three Tim Rodies is quite a feat!

Almost everything you said here is false.

What do you mean it is poor on longer journey? Just curious

Ive got the exact same car in 320 guise, 40mpg average and no diesel woes to worry about

Great review as always I love the 3 series but still not a fan of electric cars. Hope you're colds better soon.jermaine x
I’ve been thinking about that exact car. Driven the 320i and 320d touring and there’s not much “go” there. Considering 330e…
Buy a motorcycle, always much go.
@@DamienMcAvoy If you want “go” then 330d M340i &M340d you should be looking at.
Unless you are buying for a tax break get a 330i enough power good economy without the weight and headaches later down the line.
330e battery replacement is £7k on a 8 year old 330e 1st gen... this will hurt your wallet and the environment. Get a 320d or 330d
Didn't a Skoda beat this elephant around a race track on 5th Gear a while back? May be the 330 badge means KG over weight these days.
Still diesel for me, 330d fantastic car, performance and fuel economy
Go for a C300e Mercedes. 65 mile EV range
They need to build a full EV version with 300 mile range
they do, in china
The first i3 prototype (Neue Klasse) was spotted a couple of days ago
It's a 320e. 😅
Not Rebecca 😂
