Kindly note that this is an Android phone. With a one extra click, you can install anything you want in your phone, even the mighty play store!. There is a workaround for every single apps that's available in the market. I wonder why US reviewer's are not even mentioning that?!. It's not that difficult or we are not compromising security in that process. Include everything In the review and Keep up the good spirit 🙌

Honestly: I am tired of software processing. I recently bought the Lumia 1020 and the Nokia 808. and with a gimbal the shots feel so natural. In spite of grain more natural than my iPhone 11. Facts. Huawei is taking steps back to the roots somehow. I like it.

Did you guys watch SuperSaf review where he said that the 10x lens do not work with video... This could be easily seen from the comparison to S20 Ultra. In 10x photos P40 Pro+ won but in video (no movement) it lost by a mile.

You are wrong, it wasnt because of camera tech, its Huawei has the ability to track you even when you are not using ur GPS, it cant be turned off either unless you don't have any batt left in the phone.

I have been using a P30 pro since it was released, hopefully Huawei will be allowed to have Google on their phones again soon. I really want my next phone to be a new Huawei P phone

Wish they would commit to Harmony as a mobile OS. Android doesn’t need to control every phone that’s not an iPhone.
The thing is, app developers will have to take a shift. Which is very difficult to accomplish. Widely used services in Android such as Firebase are not easy to implement by other companies except Google. Firebase is very wide.

Great review as always, with a lot of needed detail. Given the Entity List/GMS/app situation, what other phones would you say are a suitable option, specifically in the camera dept, and particularly in low light. As a user of the P20 Pro, I can say that when it comes to low-light photography, even the best flagship phones, are still not comparable to Huawei.

Twitter, Instagram, Spotify ...that u mentioned are not a "ton of apps missing" and frankly, they r not so important as others that DO exist already in Huawei store. And if u really want them u can get them from elsewhere than Google Play.
Anybody can live w/o Google Serv. as they enjoy the plethora of pluses this phone has which gives you an unparalleled experience!
in the app gallery there's a app with apks for all the normal Android apps (Instagram, WhatsApp....)
To call it P it's understating..to have a phone w/ a camera system that intricate = Wow!!

I got google play store installed and its google services in my huawei P40 Pro..It works flawlessly! I love the smartphone!
I have the P40Pro for two months now and I really find it great. Im not really that much hooked into Google because I dont really play much games or use much apps other than Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Spotify.
But here's my honest take about the fone. Camera-wise, its great. Speed-wise, its great. Design-wise, easy to hold and great aesthetics.
With regards to using apps, I use APKPure and Amazon Appstore for the apps that are not available on Appgallery. Surprisingly, these two app stores update their apps as frequent as Google Playstore.

Just for your info, besides Google Play Store, there's a very popular appstore from Amazon in the US, in which all the popular apps that you've mentioned can be downloaded from. Beyond US, there are dozens of appstores including Huawei Appgallery around the world where Android users have accessed to either for their availability, accessibility or simply for local contents.
Is there a way to use the P40 pro with your Chromecast (without any jailbreak stuff)? 🙏🏽
Use APKPURE for finding apps not available in the app gallery and use Petal Maps for Google maps alternative and TH-cam Vanced for TH-cam Alternative. Games and Spotify and more are all available in APKPURE use this app store alternative until HarmonyOS comes and app gallery has all the apps. Huawei is excellent and I'm using Huawei Mediapad M6 and also Huawei P40. I'm living life without Google as a gamer and as a person who is actively addicted to social media. Give it a try.

I switched from IPhone to Huawei p20 pro 2 years ago and I was very satisfied. Till this day I don't have battery problems or software problems like my family has with their iPhones ( after a year or two the phones get slower and batteries go out ... Seems like apple trying to get you to upgrade by messing your phone with updates )
I really was looking to upgrade to the p40 Pro but unfortunately with the lack of Google services , I really don't think the money's worth the hassle to work around it. You need Google in the USA no matter how you put it.
Look around TH-cam. There are plenty of videos that show how to install GSM on Huawei phones. I have it on my Mate 30 pro and it's faultless. Same can be done on this device. I would strongly recommend it.

performing a phone clone from p30 gets all the google apps to be transferred to the new p40 pro + with a very small limitation on a few games which needs google authentications. however most retailers here in hk can install GMS at the time of purchase with a small mark up of $40 and the phone works perfectly ...

On the website you can tap the hamburger menu and select “add to desktop”. Some websites operate like apps so it works ok, but some are.. very bad.

This is called an “Embargo”. We get the device early for review and can only release at a specific time.
And we all know the other way if getting apps outside the Google playstore. Actually i'm finding lately a lot of new apps, on their sites offer a direct download link for the latest apk archive to install it instead of using the playstore. I guess Huawei really saturated the market to the point where a developer cannot afford to lose these users. I'm still waiting for the launch of that phone here and will get it asap just because of the camera. I'm still rolling my 2yo P20 Pro (again bought it because of the camera and the color of the panel) and with my hand on my heart i can say it's the best phone i've ever had. It's the only one which didn't have a single, even a tiny problem or issue for that time. Over the years i've tried almost every major manufacturer's flagship phone - Samsung, Sony, LG, HTC ... all of them started developing some sort of minor problems and issues within 6 months, but this one has been bulletproof. So as far as i am concerned Huawei are the good guys. And the best part is the accessories for it are a fraction of the price i used to pay for the Galaxy ones. Also, not long after me, my dad got a Mate 20 and to this day is still beyond impressed with it. So yeah, i can say i'm satisfied from my Huawei experience.

Also forgot to mention if you have an old Huawei phone which has all the google apps you can copy them on your new phone. Maps, TH-cam... everything in just under a minute, so not such a big problem. Just get an old phone for $30 an use it to install whichever app from the store you like.

The pinkish hue seen in red images is ultraviolet radiation/light and the Samsung has a UV coating on their lenes to block that spectrum of light so, a small uv filter attached will fix this issue.

But that would make you more than an average user, which is what this phone is about. Its not for the average user.
But if one can get past the minor inconvenience, you get a samsung-killing camera, 2 day battery, and good performance.
This phone also supports WiFi6+ .. Even the base model can get you all these...except the 10x optical

Given the situation, it would great if Huawei made a bare bones version of this phone but keeping the same camera stuff and make it like $400-500. I would use my current phone for day to day stuff and have that as my camera phone.

Really it is the King and Supreme Commander for all smartphones in 2020 and blows the mind.

Up to this moment, all smart phones have no 10x, 3x optical zoom beside the 100x digital zoom and 20x hybrid zoom.
I have Galaxy s20 ultra, and it is good with 100x digital zoom but unfortunately, s20 ultra has only 3x optical zoom and zero hybrid zoom.
I'd buy p40 pro plus just for the camera.
So true a smartphone without Google services is meaningless no matter how you look at it.
I just hope Huawei gets off the US black list as quickly as possible they make very good smartphones at affordable prices.
