    Since water expands into steam in 2.0, you can store 10x as much by storing water in the tanks, using a pump as a check valve in order to prioritize the reserve water for the reactors above the fuel generation.
    By wiring the reactors together, then into one combinator with fuel

    Undergrounds do not affect measuring the contents of a belt...just the splitters.
    The heatpipes provide more energy storage per tile area than tanks. So, just put down more heat pipes wherever you can.
    Otherwise, pretty good. :)

    • @Maxiume
      @Maxiume  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +8

      That's true. Heat pipes store more energy. But the reactors are in competition with fuel generators on water consumption. So we need to store emergency power in the form of steam to guarantee availability.

    • @MR0KITTY
      @MR0KITTY 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

      @trepidati0n533 If the concern is a lack of ice, it would be most space efficient to use water tanks: Heat pipes store 500 MJ, for a total of 4.5 GJ in a 3x3 space; Steam has a storage value of 2.43 GJ per tank; Water expands 10x in 2.0, so one tank of water can make 24.3 GJ worth of Steam, and a pump can be used to prioritize reactor reserve water over water to be used for making fuel.

    • @Maxiume
      @Maxiume  20 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

      Your comments are awesome! Even though I have water storage onboard, after reading your previous comment, I think it would be a good idea to split the water storage between power and fuel and get rid of the steam tanks altogether cause reactors are always hot n ready.

    anyone else find the idea of running a steam turbine in the vacuum of space funny?
    also, that seems like an unnecessarily large amount of thruster fuel storage

    • @Maxiume
      @Maxiume  18 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      Lol. It’s ridiculous isn’t it? Not that it wont work theoretically, it does. but it is just so far fetched and absurd. You know what else is absurd and also impossible based on physics? Conveyer belts in zero gravity carrying items around!

    • @donavangaudet3829
      @donavangaudet3829 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      well, it is making a gas that could be released into the vacuum of space. just control that through a turbine and I think it would work? I am no expert but I think that's possible, though it would look NOTHING like it does in the game lol!

    A design piece that I've used in my space platforms is to prefer filtering the asteroid collectors over dumping the excess. This makes sure that you can't overload your belts with unnecessary asteroids (even if those would be eliminated after one cycle of your looped belt.
    Make a constant combinator sending three signals, one for each asteroid chunk type with a value of how many of that chunk you'd like on your belts. Perhaps 150 ice, 50 carbon, 50 metal.
    Wire that to a decider combinator's input on a green wire, and use red wire to monitor the belt contents. Set the decider's conditionals to EACH (red) < EACH (green) => EACH (1).
    Wire that output of that decider combinator to one of your asteroid collectors, then wire each asteroid collector to the next one and configure them all to "Set filter." Now the collectors won't grab too many of any asteroid type.

    I don't recall it being mentioned in the video, so for anyone curious, using laser shooting speed and damage level 7 has kept my laser ship safe at ~130 km/s

    • @Maxiume
      @Maxiume  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Cheers! I myself went for level 10 so it is safe even at 230km/s which happens when the ship stops for unloading/loading for a while and then goes fast into super dense astroid patches.

    • @Maxiume
      @Maxiume  12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      True again. But this is a creative design. And also something players create when trying to start their space journey. No foundries yet.

  •  21 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    Love your design. I don’t know if you used speed limiters but I think you didn’t. There’s no need for too much fuel, specially if the ships are moving constantly. If you use consider the efficiency of the trusters you can add 2 more, and set a speed limit of 200km/s and use a single tank.
    I suggest to check the thruster efficiency values if you haven’t seen it.

    Nice! the only think that is not needed are the combinators, just connect directly to the inserter and set it to enable when temperature is below 550, and set stack size to 1

    • @Maxiume
      @Maxiume  หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are combinators right there. Did you not see the whole video? 😎

    •  21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The combinators are required to avoid loading more than 1 fuel in the nuclear plants. The stack size doesn’t prevent the inserter to insert 10 nuclear fuel, one at the time.

    • @Maxiume
      @Maxiume  21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It actually does. When you limit the stack size to one, the circuit disables the inserter as soon as it puts the first fuel cell in them reactor. Tested it and works.

    •  21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@MaxiumeI agree with you. However the OP comment is asking if the combinator is necessary. We’re explaining that it’s necessary to avoid overloading the nuclear plant.

      Initially, I posted this just as a guide on a new interesting design, but I've been asked for blueprints a lot. So I think I'm going to share blueprints as well. Regarding the size of the spaceship, it doesn't have to be perfect, just go ahead and make it as long as you want, then when all is in place, get rid of the tail and put your engines there.

    14:02 this is unhealthy. Reactors should work or idle together.

    • @Maxiume
      @Maxiume  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It is because i used more heat exchangers than needed for aesthetic purposes and now they drain the heat asymmetrically. But that aside, asynchronous heat drain can happen in perfect designs too.

      Or you should measure the temperature of one reactor instead of invidually, or measureme the remaining steam. Then the reactors will work together.
