Abiola and Obasanjo were distant cousins. Abiola was Obasanjo's senior by a year at BBHS. MKO was an exceptional student in his set likewise Obj in his set. In fact, Obj was always first in all subjects except in Latin, which (Late) Rear Admiral Adebimpe Adewumi always topped. Late Adewumi was Prince Bola Ajibola's cousin. There was silent bitter rivalry between MKO and OBJ,no wonder was silent on June 12 throughout his 8 years rule. OBJ always wants to be the only first, the reason behind his hidden agenda for opposing BAT. The two of them placed Abeokuta on global map likewise Fela, Soyinka

You are not aware of the fact that Obasanjo was the one that annulled an impasse to ensure that Abiola's candidacy was acceptable to the northern ruling elite.
The most powerful political figure in the north then was Sheu Musa Yar'adua. Abiola rejected Yar'adua's option for a running mate, which was Atiku Abubakar. Yar'adua then withdrew his support for Abiola. That was a deadly impasse. The end of the road.
Every effort to pacify Yar'adua fell flat. No one would change his mind, even when Atiku himself has begged him to let it go. Hinted that the only human being that could move Yar'adua was his former boss, General Obasanjọ, Atiku went to Obasanjọ and pleaded.
Obasanjọ was moved by Atiku's selflessness. One phone call to Yar'adua that he should resume his support for Abiola, the tables turned. Abiola wọn the north by a landslide, not to talk of the south.
That was why years later Obasanjo chose Atiku as his running mate after Atiku has won election as a state governor.
So, Obasanjọ might have beef with Abiola; he contributed to his success...
Stop exaggerating facts to suit your political inclination.

The two of them were classmates at Baptist Boys High School. In fact Abiola's daughter said so when Buhari named Abuja stadium after Abiola. Obasanjo also said Abiola was his classmate .

@abiolaboldnessayoola2336 Haven said all these. You just clearly pointed out the reason for the "silent bitter rivalry." Mind you, I have no political inclination, so why exaggeration?

El-Mustapha did not corroborate but was corroborated by others. He was the first to mention that Chief MKO Abiola didn't drink any tea, but was strangled to death with the dress he had on. This was at the Oputa Panel which was televised live.

I do not know this man but I can attest to the accuracy of his narration of the primary that got Chief M.K.O Abiola the presidential ticket of the SDP. I was an adult (in my late 20s) student at University of Jos when the primary was held in Jos, Plateau state . My late uncle's friends and relatives, who were politicians and in M.K.O's political camp and delegates at the primary election, were accommodated in our house. Their narrations of the events then were exactly the same narration he gave. May the good Lord be pleased with all the major actors in the events, bless the soul of Chief M.K.O Abiola and all the fallen heroes of democracy in Nigeria. Aamin.

Nice program and kudos to comrade Dam and Mr Adeyanju. For more details and info, The book titled NIGERIA'S SOLDIERS OF FORTUNE by Max Siolun detailed every bit of the history right from 1960 to 1999 including everything about Abiola, IBB and Abacha.
It's in bookshops across the country and I can also help get for anyone who wishes.
History should return to our school.

Excellent account of momentous historical events around MKO. The only bit missing are; 1. A recognition of the fact that MKO's famed philanthropic works was a carefully orchestrated deliberate political strategy and long-play campaigning aka buying of electoral support through the back door. Of course we know he did that in order to woo northerners and earn their trust 2. Nothing was said about the numerous spiritual prophecies that were given to MKO that presidency of NGR wasn't in his destiny; even after he sent 200 Alfas to Saudi Arabia to pray for his destiny to be reversed. 3. It could be argued that MKO eventual fate was a boomerang for the many political and financial atrocities he committed e.g. betraying Chief Awolowo, financing the coup that deposed Buhari-Idiagbon's Govt and many more.

  • @sundaykene6863
    @sundaykene6863 หลายเดือนก่อน

Unfortunately Chief Awolowo and MKO Abiola suffered the same fate in the hands of the northern elites. Awolowo supported the north and gave them the blueprint to win the Nigeria’s civil war, but he was later betrayed by the north. They made sure he never became Nigeria’s president
Abiola fraternized with the north, but he was as well betrayed by them and even was killed

On DRC, the issue predated abiola, the ousting of Mobutu has nothing to do with abiola, Nelson Mandela persuade Mobutu to retirement,
Laurent Kabila has been on Mobutu neck since when he was 26yrs old, he was part of the youth then that formed a guerilla warfare against Mobutu for his role in the killing of Lumumba, USA and UN presence in the Congo has long been established before abiola....I don't see him playing any significant role with the Congo context.....Congo history is convoluted and pathetic, more pathetic that it started only 9 days after its independence and persist today .....more than 6 decades after
