After you finish sanding your burnishing drums. You should apply some furniture Howard's Feed N Wax for furniture to put the beeswax into the wood burnisher and giving it a finished polished look. Which will help glide it along the leather better and preserve the wood longer from cracking or splitting and giving the leather burnish a more high burnished look.
I love this video, I wish I could give it two thumbs up. This is a brilliant idea. I was going to make my own burnisher but this is a powered one, way better. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
My sons have an old set of K’Nex toys. There was a wheel that worked perfectly for burnishing. I just had to run a bolt through the hole in it. Great video!
Brilliant idea! You showed the process really well. I will try this, and I might try with a hickory handle (replacement handle for a hammer). I think that would be really beautiful and work well. I also have eucalyptus branches, the wood is really dense and hard, might try those too. Thank you so much for sharing this!
Dense, tightly grained hardwoods are best for high speed edge slickers. I use gum trag, or sometimes beeswax along the edge first. Then after using the slicker, you'll have a smooth shiny edge.
:O wow. i was just taking a break from 109 degree heat in the garage from burnishing a holster and thought, i wonder if my dremmel could work somehow to burnish? Then I find this magnificient solution!
Hope you still read the comments. Great video, I will try it to buy the piece tomorrow and insert it to the drill, I believe Tandy or Harbor .... they sell it already polished. Thank you for sharing!
Greetings from India, Awesome.superb idea, for someone who wants to make his/her own burnisher. Thanks for sharing the idea and the technic. Good on you.
lol, i found a wooden door knob which already had almost the correct shape... :D and well, i still like to do the first step with water by hand... but for the wax finishing, this thing is so much faster! :)
Geko on Crete your welcome . i work the leather and i use a lot of them and i made 2 of them but not really good and now you gave me such of good idea . thanks again.
My best results came from wood with natural "oil" in them (cocobolo, pine, ...). Oak is fairly dry & tended to burn, rather than burnish when I used oak. Best of luck.
don't use dremel set up a 1700rpm motor on a table I have one for sale for 200 cd dollars if your interested all the burnishers are made (natural, black, brown) and can be changed as quickly as u change a drill bit
Why grind down and drill a wooden block? Just buy 2 or 3 wooden drawer knobs with different size grooves at a hardware store, screw small machine screws into them, grind off the heads to fit the Dremel tool, and you’re good to go! A nylon roller for a sliding glass door works fine too.
When building it for a drillpress you can go this way. For a dremel you need a small size center hole and small overall diameter. The small size makes it much more easy to use on small workpieces with tight radius.
its not that easy to find and drill exactly the center of a dowel. if you are just a little out of center its starts shaking like crazy and it will kill the bearings of the dremel very quick. and you can make them this way as big as you want. cheers, geko
Just bought a dremel. I was thinking "oh I could make one of these on the lathe". Lmao, then I realized the dremel is the mini lathe.
WAAAAAY better than spending $40 on an “exotic wood” hand burnished. Thanks!
Simply brilliant and brilliantly simple, being into both leather work and wood carving I love this idea, thanks for sharing dude...
You are a genius using the dremel itself to make the burnisher.
Thousands of likes
Thank you! I’m tired of buying them and they rarely are the exact size I need and I don’t own a lathe...the dremmel and rasp never occurred to me!

Awesome video. I was just imagining how to make one of these.

This is AMAZING. Thank you 🙂

Brilliant 👍 thank you
Супер !!!! Молодец 👍✌!!!!
Awesome!!
that's a brilliant idea but I neeed to know what is that thing that you put it in the leather
That’s such a great idea, thanks 🤝 keep up the great work 👍……… one question, does it matter what type of wood I use?
You sir are my hero xD
Awesome! Thanks
Thanks for this, mate
thank you so much!!
brilliant.
Nice. My concern is that the bolt in the middle will spin or come loose easily. Would it be better to use a screw and glue?
He used epoxy. Hence the reason for making the marks in the nail shaft to give it something to bite into.
What size nail did you use? Or does it depend on the collet size? 1/8" ?
very nice
Freaking awesome!
What wood did you use? Or it doesn’t make much difference??
Thank you
Is this water you put on the leather? Thanks for answearing !
great idea.
thx buddy
Geko on Crete your welcome . i work the leather and i use a lot of them and i made 2 of them but not really good and now you gave me such of good idea . thanks again.
Nice! What kind of wood is best for this? I have some oak pieces left, and wondering if it will be ok...
My best results came from wood with natural "oil" in them (cocobolo, pine, ...). Oak is fairly dry & tended to burn, rather than burnish when I used oak.
Best of luck.
Anyone know offhand what size nail is best for a dremel Chuck?
Sorry to be that person but I loved the music what was it?
What kind of of Dremel do you use?
Wow. ☺️👍
Nailed it.
I see what you did there !
gonna go home and make one of these
don't use dremel set up a 1700rpm motor on a table I have one for sale for 200 cd dollars if your interested all the burnishers are made (natural, black, brown) and can be changed as quickly as u change a drill bit
u can also set up for sanding wheels which I also have set up
Jesus! for $200! I made one for 0$ and used in in my drill instead of a demel. Plus I'm sure I could buy one at a craft shop for like $50
Nearly lost 10$ for these tool. Now i can do a ton for my self😊🤣
А как ты вывел видео на экран на столе??? Это телефон?
Would a hard wood be a better choice?
Yep

That is 👍
What were the 2 metal tools u used when cutting the gutters into the barrel?
Rat-tail files ( round files )
Did you use resin?
You just saved my bank account
Yeah dude !
top! idée
👏👏👏👏👏
Use a hole cutter and cut out a plug from a chunk of oak or walnut.
Won't need to "round it out" and can get in much larger sizes.
When building it for a drillpress you can go this way. For a dremel you need a small size center hole and small overall diameter. The small size makes it much more easy to use on small workpieces with tight radius.

Use a 1" or 1.5" hole cutter in 1" lumber would meet those requirements I think.
Just another option.
,,Great tip, as i'm making miniature western saddles, for my daughter's BREYER model horses,, again thanks !!
Why not use a round dowel / Mop handle to start
its not that easy to find and drill exactly the center of a dowel. if you are just a little out of center its starts shaking like crazy and it will kill the bearings of the dremel very quick. and you can make them this way as big as you want.
cheers, geko
Thank you very much.
(Wood type??? Can be pine!!!)
silicone?
Can you make me one of those I can purchase
Да Нормально.
I nearly wasted €35. thank you!
