  • here is a video of me attempting to make my first project using a new form of leather tooling that i have been trying to develop. This method utilizes a dental micromotor hammer handpiece and custom made bits.
im in the process of filming several complete projects utilizing this method and many others.

    That's pretty interesting.
I'm going to try putting a momentary foot switch on an electric engraver and play around with it just to see how it goes.
This is a good idea and can surely be used along with traditional leather tooling for a wider range of creativity. Thanks for sharing Your Talent!!

Dude, I just subbed. Your doing everything I’m trying to get started with. Cab lapping, some silver rings, rock tumbling and leather work. Trying to get the machines, tools, etc for all the above all at once. Impossible. Doing a lot of red neck engineering right now. Carry on, I’m following.

Thank you for the video, the skull turned out beautiful.
Do you know if an engraving pen would work similar? My first language isn’t English and I don’t know if a rotary tool is close to an engraving one.

I use a vibrating electric metal engraver. An older one made by Craftsman.

Looks great congratulations you have just invented a new avenue of leather crafting ! ! Does it matter what you use behind the leather or is wood the best option L nice work though and a far better - and much less painful - option for the the dreaded dentists drill!!!

Hi Thanks for the comment...yes i found it absolutely matters whats behind the leather and after i posted the video i was kinda sorry i didnt mention it but the video was already longer than i was happy with. if you notice when i first did the initial outline, i didnt have anything behind the leather and the lines werent as clean, in the second half of the video i have a rubber mat behind the leather and the markings are much smoother and cleaner. this might only be necessary because i used thinner leather and might not be as important with thicker more common tooling leather but at least for thinner leather it makes an absolutely huge difference if you have something soft behind.

Hi, I am wondering how to find the hammer rotary tool that you used for embossing. Could you tell me what it's called or a brand name? Is it the same as an engraving handpiece? My search words don't seem to be correct and I am just coming up with rotary tools and/or hammers :(

no im sorry but if you want i can make a video showing how i make them. its very easy and honestly you should know how anyway because youre going to want to make your own custom shapes for specific effects

@@sweetgumnyc7794 thank you. I look forward to seeing the video. I noticed in the comments someone mentioned an engraver pen as a substitute. Were you able to get more information from that person?
