To this day, my dad still laughs at this episode... I remember first watching it on TV with him when I was in the 2nd grade & found it hilarious. 'The Mayberry Band' was literally the first episode of 'The Andy Griffith Show' that I ever watched, as a matter of fact...
I love Mayor Stoner's line: "Well, I'll admit they sound better than they did last year. But they are STILL the most DISGUSTING band I have ever heard in ALL my LIFE! No trip." I personally have always ranked that line and this scene as one of the funniest moments in Mayberry!
In the scene beginning at 1:10 where they are rehearsing, you have to be a really good musician for everyone to know HOW to play so bad and make it funny. This is one of my favorite episodes, especially at the end of the show where the bus pulls away and they play so badly again.
The Expert Percussion tapped out by drumsticks on the chair at "Floyd's Barbershop" sets up the later cacophonous misery disguised as Music at "Sheriff Andy Taylor's" Office very well!😂🤣😂🎤🎼🎵🎶🎷🎺🥁B.W.
@@melldavenport4040 If you look closely, during the scene when & where the band marches around the corner of a building & onto the main street, you'll see an elderly black woman standing on the sidewalk.
Great melody 💙 This reminds me of the 🥁 sticks I got for reiki.. perfect Mayberry is real and they have there very own parade Captin go cardinals 👍 well my bird is a blue Jay..
They cut the part about the mayor saying he saw some guys with beards and Any says "That was Burley Peters, he had blueberry pie for lunch". Also, this had to one of the very last shows were Floyd was still able to walk. He had a stroke around 1963 and was always shown sitting down after that.
Does anyone know the name of that song that they were trying to play? They played it towards the end of the episode with Freddy Fleet's band. I just can't quite remember what it's called.
SalandFindles well it was, of course, ole page number 12, STARS & STRIPES FOREVER. it would do certain overpaid athletes a world of good to do "Patriotism and Persperation Mayor" as Andy put it, a lot more often.
@@henryrocknfellerHe may very well be from the "Divided States". Jesse Watters once asked someone if he knew when the U. S. declared its independence. His answer: 1984. Just Imagine A Band Like This Trying To Play "Four-Leaf Clover" In The Same, Mangled Manner As They Did With The "Three Cheers For The Red, White & Blue"! ~ LOL .
I love Howard McNear as Floyd, grinning from ear to ear as he's marching. All the time not playing a note of music! Andy somehow cons the mayor into listening to his abominable band. His facial expressions are of a man ready to jump off a bridge. I was ready to cry with laughter at this marching band from hell. Not a bad trade though. Worst band. Best show.
Though I do agree I was waiting for the "but they are still the most disgusting band I've ever heard. No trip!", I think that 'thisiasecret' did a fantastic job editing the video to basically tell the story in around 5 minutes. Thanks for putting this up!
Hay,how come I wasnt in the band.I can march better than Barney Fife!!!Three Cheers For MAYBERRY!!!Best show ever made.Thank you ANDY and BARNEY!!!♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
In my opinion. The Mayberry band was just background actors. The real band you heard was off stage. Some of the other band looks like real musicians. If they was, most likely it was them playing out of tune off stage.

Barney makes me laugh. He is hilarious in some of the scenes. The mayor was trying to motion them back when they were leaving. Lol

The Mayberry schoolbus is too cool for school man! That would be a great surf mobile
Barney is so funny 😂😂😂 I love the Tandem of Andy and Barney ❤️❤️❤️

I wish towns were more like Mayberry today!
People still had problems back then.
I don't see no blacks did that what you mean😢
The wrong people have been allowed to change our society and cultures, America will never be like this again, until we clean it up

We need this in loud bass
"All right boys let's play "Stars And Stripes Forever" and play it like you've NEVER PLAYED IT BEFORE!"
And they took that literally.
A whole new meaning to the term "short bus"
😃😃😃😃
The little guy drummer is Gavin Macleod, who just passed away. RIP.
I've seen this 1000 times and never realized that!!!
Stars and stripes New Orleans style!now all they need is shrimp jambalaya!😃

That Burly Peter's has got it going on😂
Why is Andy playing a baritone horn instead of a gee-tar? 🤓😎✌🏻
Marching band
i can't breathe. and my head hurts from barney's cymbals.
I still laugh to this day over this episode 😂😂😂😂

The Phil Sunkel character was great!...lol Too hip for Mayberry!

Who are the guest stars

It's "Stars & Stripes Forever" by J P Sousa. The most famous march of all time.
This episode is too hilarious!
Another time I would have taken Barney . Don't know how Andy Griffith could have put up with that guy.
2:42 Anyone know the name of the trumpet player?
William Eben Stephens
“Maybe we should just play so quietly no one will be able to hear us.” -Squidward Tenisballs
Loved how Barney copied Phil Sunkel's hip vocabulary during the episode...""Hey! Let Andy make the scene!...go ahead, chicky baby.." lmao.

What is the name of the song Barney plays for Andy to audition?! It’s bothered me for years. It doesn’t match any song I can find
They sound better than today's musicians.
When the mayor realized he's just been played...
XD
This made me laugh so hard! That amazing band made it sound so bad. I'm playing in a band right now and this was like our first rehearsal. LOL!
The trick is to play music that is supposed to be played loose. Google the Big Easy Easton Brass Band.
This comment cracked me up 😂 I can picture your instructor being like “ok. this needs work.”
Andy Griffith really did know how to play every instrument there is

If Floyd is the town barber then who cuts His hair?
@@donr5593 Maybe he drove to Raleigh. "Didn't you know they have a barber shop that has 5 CHAIRS?!"
"The Clubmen"
@@ericschminke8233 That's right Howard was great with the quick vocals and facial expressions.
DANGIT! I needed the Mayor Stoner quote about the band being the worst, most disgusting etc...
ah well...
"We'll I will admit they are better than last year"
The mayor looked like he was about to cry. well, practice makes perfect( in this case....almost.)
"But they are still....the most DISGUSTING band I have ever heard in ALL my LIFE!" Lmao

Those persons were going to school
The mayor s expressions are priceless
Super film.
Earlier on "no trip" said Mayor Stoner....😉
Yes 🥰 that is a good show to

Symbols are a hitting offense.
If I were Andy, Barney would've had his head bashed with those damn cymbals!
hahaha
😉
When people had respect for others and knew how to have clean fun. Men were men and women were women.
Always wondered how they got that band to play the tryout song so out of sync. The guys were probably very good musicians to pull that off

It takes a lot of work to sound that bad
Karma for Stoner.
Nothing to do in that small town
Nichols just got clanged
In past episodes the band wasn't that bad, wonder what happened?
That's pretty bad! LOL
I bet that guy practice all week
That drummer was bad!!
I do have to admit the band was terrible the were no coordination as to what instrument comes in.
I bet that guy practice all week
