PeeCee, this version is the same one off the Sweet Charity soundtrack. In the film there is a little more instrumental. But it’s pretty close to the film.

This is the version of the song written by the Machiavellian mindset. (The Jim Joneses of the world) There is another very moving version that was written for the mind that serves God. Look up "Rhythm of Life" sung by so many beautiful choirs around the world.

I hadn't thought of it for years, but I remember loving Sammy's version of this song as a kid, much more than the single by Diana Ross and the Supremes with the Temptations (from the soundtrack album of the TV special "G.I.T on Broadway", according to Wikipedia, only issued as a single in Australia, where it reached #5 on the charts). From what I can gather, Sammy's single (from the "Sweet Charity" soundtrack) was not a success, but someone on Melbourne radio must have loved it because I heard it a lot in 1969!

You reminded me of living in the Nurses Home at Prince Henry’s hospital in May 1970, when a lovely fellow trainee came grooving out of her room with this, one of THE most catchy songs ever, bopping on her radio.

    • @BabyFaceBren
      @BabyFaceBren 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Karin Berryman thanks for that great memory. It’s amazing how music can take us back and evoke past experiences. Stranger is how when hearing some songs my brain TRIES to recall a memory but can’t quite get it. Petula Clark’s “Downtown” is one for me. EVERY time I hear it, theres a memory jolt but nothing real comes through. The Beatles “From Me to You” is another. Both from the same era and I would’ve been 2-3. Sometimes a song will give me a flash of sitting at the kitchen table colouring, so maybe the memories the songs are trying to bring forth aren’t memories but just a feeling of a time of being a kid and being happy. Mine was a very musical house, both parents always singing so that probably has something to do with it. My folks used to talk of me constantly singing Wayne Newton’s “I Want Some Red Roses for a Blue Lady” at 3. I have NO recollection of doing that BUT I do know EVERY word! And that’s a quite obscure WN song I haven’t heard in years. Gotta love the brain!

    • @karinberryman2009
      @karinberryman2009 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Scents and smells will do that too. They’re such effervescent memories, lovely but of such brief spans.

Daddy started out in San Francisco,
Tootin' on his trumpet loud and mean.
Suddenly a voice said, "Go forth, Daddy.
Spread the picture on a wider screen."
And the voice said, "Daady, there's a million pigeons
Ready to be hooked on new religions.
Hit the road, Daddy. Leave your common-law wife.
Spread the religion of the rhythm of life."
And the rhythm of life is a powerful beat,
Puts a tingle in your fingers and a tingle in your feet,
Rhythm in your bedroom, rhythm in the street,
Yes, the rhythm of life is a powerful beat.
To feel the rhythm of life,
    To feel the powerful beat,
To feel the tingle in your fingers,
To feel the tingle in your feet.
Daddy spread the gospel in Milwaukee,
Took his walkie-talkie to Rocky Ridge,
Blew his way to Canton, then to Scranton,
Till he landed under the Manhattan .
Daddy was the new sensation, got himself a congregation,
Built up quite an operation down below.
With the pie-eyed piper blowing, while the muscatel was flowing,
All the cats were go, go, going down below.
Daddy was the new sensation, got himself a congregation,
Built up quite an operation down below.
With the pie-eyed piper blowing, while the muscatel was flowing,
All the cats were go, go, going down below.
Flip your wings and fly to Daddy,
Flip your wings and fly to Daddy,
Flip your wings and fly to Daddy,
    Fly, fly, fly to Daddy.
Take a dive and swim to Daddy,
Take a dive and swim to Daddy,
Take a dive and swim to Daddy,
    Swim, swim, swim to Daddy.
Hit the floor and crawl to Daddy,
Hit the floor and crawl to Daddy,
Hit the floor and crawl to Daddy,
    Crawl, crawl, crawl to Daddy.
And the rhythm of life is a powerful beat,
Puts a tingle in your fingers and a tingle in your feet,
Rhythm in your bedroom, rhythm in the street,
Yes, the rhythm of life is a powerful beat.
To feel the rhythm of life,

To feel the rhythm of life,

To feel the tingle in your feet.
Flip your wings and fly to Daddy,
Take a dive and swim to Daddy,
Hit the floor and crawl to Daddy,
Daddy we got the rhythm of life,
Of life, of life, of life.
    Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
    Man!
